  1. I would love the see the schematics of that drivetrain/suspension. Nothing can launch like AWD. As far as weight balance being off, don't forgrt that it is a hill-climb car. A little front weight bias woun't hurt and may actually help.
  2. If any, strap in the ones that are difficult to get too. Leave one of the easy ones alone. This way you still have the "safety" feature in an easy to reach spot. Another thing you could do is to weld a bung into one of them and add a pressure relief valve rated for like 20-40psi.
  3. Try using compressible coolant instead of that ol' fashioned incompressible stuff.
  4. I find it hard to believe that combustion pressure would blow out freeze plugs before blowing up a radiaor hose or the radiator cap. I guess it's possible. Doc, I had never heard of it before until these guys brought it up.
  5. The freeze thing is pretty much a myth. They are mainly "core plugs". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeze_plug
  6. I am ready for the snow! I can't wait. To me it's an opportunity to take the Z off the road for some quality jackstand time. I throw the set of Blizzaks on the WRX and it's party time!
  7. 7" is just too narrow for a high performance Z. When are the wheel makers going to hear us? 8" should be the norm on a Z not 7". Nice looking wheel anyhow.
  8. More often than not I find myself reaching for a can of WD-40 or a can of carb spray and a bristle brush to clean a car part. I usually have limited success or think the part could have come cleaner. I see junkyard parts come back from professional machine shops looking like they just came out of the factory casting brand new. Engine blocks, heads, carbs, they get so clean somehow. What chemicals can be used to make aluminum look like it was just cast? What cleans steel? What is safe for rubber? What isn't? Are there dips available so we don't have to scrub and scrub for hours with limited results? Any special techniques? What dissolves the most stubborn grime and carbon deposits? What is safe and what isn't? Go to the auto parts store and it's like looking for a needle in a stack of needles! Everyone and their brother claims to have the BEST cleaning solution. I searched, and considering the amount of work we do on our cars, this could be a very useful thread and save someone lots of time, money, and pain.
  9. You are correct. 430 is the model of the two Ferraris. I am not up on my modern Ferrari nomenclature. ...Haven't shopped for a Ferrari in a while The guy in the Diablo was on his cell phone. Tonight on my way home, I may crumple up and throw my resume at them and see if I can get it into one of the cars! These are the ones:
  10. Could it be caused by the block flexing? I doubt it but you never know.
  11. I saw the cars again today in the same spot at the same time only this time there were two Ferraris. The new one was a yellow convertible. I think there were other exotic cars in the lineup that I just couldn't ID so quickly. I wonder what the heck they are doing?
  12. Thanks Prox. I have my original '76 L28 sitting on the floor in my garage so I could rob those valvetrain parts if I need to. I figure I would need to find a non-hydraulic turbo cam also.
  13. First time shooting a few years ago I shot a 30-06 scoped rifle 20 rounds in a 3" circle at 100yds. Using a sandbag and a dialed in scope. Sore shoulder too. Ouch!
  14. Photos #1 and #2 are too dark for me to see anything. Lemme go photoshop them. OK EDIT: MAKE sure it's the EGR feed and NOT the steering rod I am looking at!!! Whatever it is, it's cracked. Photo #3 is the Air Conditioning idle kickup. It should engage when you engage the A/C compressor.
  15. Congrats! My wife has three months left to go with our first child (a boy) and she is on strict bed rest. Which means I do EVERYTHING. Including keeping the Z. Get ready to be busy, real busy. Fingers crossed for you.
  16. Too many unknowns. We need more details about your car.
  17. On my way home from work tonight I saw...a Silver Porsche 911, a Yellow C6 Vette, A Red Ferrari 440, and an Orange Diablo. In that order spaced apart by a car or two in between each on a twisty country road. It's very rare to see cars of that caliber just cruising around this area. Maybe they were setting up a magazine shoot. Unfortunately I was going in the opposite direction and I wasn't in the Z.
  18. Oh, sorry I didnt know they made them with a 6. I thought the 6 ones were 911 swaps.
  19. For sale in my area. http://www.914club.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=62368 I believe it has the 911 flat six motor in it.
  20. Speaking of overpriced...my friend and I stopped by a used car dealer affiliated with BMW. They had a beautiful 2005 M3 in the showroom used with about 12K miles on it. It was white, 6sp manual, had black wheels, a custom trunklid, and stick-on carbon fiber layer (stickers) on the front lip. He wanted $65,000!! I questioned his logic. His argument was the black powder coated wheels, the custom trunk lid, and the carbon lip made it rare. Just because it's custom does not always make it worth big bucks. Same applies to that ZX. LOL.

  22. I once measured caster by sitting a bar across the strut tops that hung out past the fenders. Then I hung a string from the bar, down the sides, along the wheel and measured how far forward the hub was from the string. I then used trig to calculate the angle. This only measured the caster angle in ONE dimension, parallel to the car centerline. I am not sure if this is true caster. My garage floor happens to be perfectly level. It's not good when the snow melts off my winter car but good for alignments.
