I do alot of patent research for work. I am a design engineer for an innovation/new technology group. I like to use the USPTO.com and freepatentsonline.com along with our team of patent lawyers to back me up. I found patent 6917173 using freepatentsonline.com. US Patent 6917173 compensates for wind pressure on the windshield to adjust wiper speeds (maybe different than what you want to do). I like your idea because I always have to slow the wipers down at stoplights. You could tie the system into the radio volume as well. BTW. I wasn't trying to shoot down your idea. Most people come up with ideas and automatically think they will be rich. I sometimes just browse patents to get ideas for myself. As you said, you can steal any of the ideas as long as you don't plan on profiting from them or cutting into the owner's profits.

Good idea but... 1) Might already be patented. (United States Patent 6917173) 2) They already have rain sensing wipers. 3) Don't post your good ideas that might be patentable on a public forum unless you want to lose your idea. LOL J/K. Very Creative.

AZC front willwood kit concern
cygnusx1 replied to nazar's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
My rotors were pretty far out also from AZC. I took them back apart and used a hand file to "dial in" the mounting tabs of the rotor. Trying different positions on and off a few times, I got them pretty close. Then I still had to have them turned quite a bit to get them perfect. I am betting that it's not Dave's CNC work but it's the castings from Wilwood..I didn't check each part individually though so I can't say for sure. Sure is a sinking feeling to install new performance brakes and have to deal with warp! -
Suspension Question (pics inside)
cygnusx1 replied to 280Bob's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Those wheel/tires look smaller than stock spec. diameter. I run 225/50-16 which is very close to original overall diameter and fills the wheel wells nicely with the car dropped 1" from stock. I'm not using coilovers yet. -

Lots of great ideas here! I am going to study all the options and experiment within a week or so. I like the idea of relocating the inner control arm holes. I never liked the idea of eccentric bushings because they also move the inner LCA up and down when you adjust for in and out. Thinking out loud: Relocating the LCA holes (very carefully) could give me a nice amount of neg. camber. but no adjustment. I would also need to make the tie rods longer somehow which is not unsurmountable. Slotting the towers in conjuction could give me +/- 1/2 degree or so. Then I could add some washers to the T/C rods to make some more caster or at least match the two sides up. Then I could experiment later with a softer swaybar and tire pressures to fine tune. Yikes. If I change too many things at once...I could bury myself and end up throwing in the towels and buying everything ajdustable! Break time. Clifton, I would trade swaybars with you but I am not sure what I need yet. -

82's and most 83's also had solid lifter heads. Look for P90 heads. P90A is hydraulic. I also have a P90A and so far so good. Fingers crossed.

Probably has a better drag coefficient than an S30 now!!

I hesitate to remove the B/S spacers because I am pretty sure that the front control arms are pretty close to horizontal already. I will check it again though it's a good point. I may also try to round up a used 1" 240Z front swaybar instead of my 1-1/8". -

That's what I was afraid of. It's either a tiny bit of adjustment or an expensive can of worms to go all out. I do have stock diameter springs. With all the reading I've been doing, I understood that more caster, in effect, gives more camber (dynamically). I was hoping that someone would tell me that just adding a degree? or so of caster with washers and half a degree? neg. camber by slotting the towers inwards, would be enough for the street and occasional track days. I was also hoping that it would make life a bit easier for my tire edges. I know it's not the ultimate hightech answer but BJ's setup seems alot better than nothing and not too costly either. You see, I hate to undo what I have already done. ie. Springs and struts and I really don't want to get into welding camber plates on the car. Although I may end up going all fully adjustable suspension someday, my next big expense is going to be either a)EFI Programmable or b)an engine rebuild. Thanks. -
When I bought my 280Z in 1989, it had a pinhole leak in the bottom of the fuel tank. I went to my local hardware shop (pre-home depot days) and the old man said, "If I had a dime for every gas tank I fixed with this, I'd be rich." He handed me a tube of Seal-All. It's been 17years and it still isn't leaking! I cleaned it to the metal, smeared the stuf on it, and let it dry. Not sure about the plastic though. http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/reviews/SealAllGlueReview.htm

It's a car that we built in HS about 18 years ago. It's still in good shape with very low hours on it. A friend of mine bought it from another friend of mine. It is currently being restored and we were wondering about the output of the motor. I would have guessed about the same figures as you guessed. Thanks for your SWAG!

I believe they are DCOE 45's

My 280Z has Illuminas and Tokico springs 1" lower. I run "bump" spacers and ST 1-1/8" and 7/8" swaybars. I run 225-50/16 tires. I run near 0 toe. Urethane bushings all around. I also use front and rear tower bars. All other (camber/caster) settings fall wherever the factory parts let it fall. The car pushes a bit just after turn-in and both outside tire edges are wearing fast. It has seen a couple of track days and lots of aggressive windy roads. It's mainly a country, weekend, road car. Before I go and get a thinner front swaybar and adjustable everything: 1)How far can I push the stock T/C arms forward with washers (if any). 2)How much neg. camber can I get by just slotting the strut towers? 3)Am I way off the mark? "Flame Suit On"

Well after a long winter of storage for the Z, my wife and I decided to go out to dinner with the Z. It's been a while since we went out in it. It is running soooo nice. On the way back from dinner, I rolled on the gas going up a curvy hill, the tires were breaking loose in third gear at about 50mph! My wife says out of the blue, "It sounds like a tiger!" Then she says, "You know what's going to suck when we have kids? We won't be able to just go out for a ride in the Z." My reply, "Oh yeah? We can get a babysitter". LOL

For all of us that like the S30 Z bodies, I find myself also liking the looks of the later 944's. Does anyone have any experience with the 944 Turbos? Any feelings or comments about them vs. S30's? Advantage/Disadvantages vs. S30's as far as modding and/or track performance? This video caught my eye: http://videos.streetfire.net/category/Porsche/0/67D58C7C-DBB4-4783-BF93-C9F51DFD4195.htm

Astronomers Detect First Split-Second of the Universe
cygnusx1 replied to Zhadman's topic in Non Tech Board
So, then, we are not just a pimple on a giants a$$. We are more like a molecule inside a turbocharged engine just after the combustion stroke. I don't want to be around for the exhaust stroke or the compression stroke!! -
This is an OLD thread!!! I just was looking at this website: http://www.headgasket.com/faq.html so I did a search on HybridZ and resurrected this thread. Wow, Clifton and Mat73 were about to blow a gasket!!

No, I don't listen to that station. It's a pop/easy music station. My wife told me about it but she couldn't call in at the time. I don't know how long it took to get an answer but it probably came in over a commercial break.
