  1. Be very careful with that engine. My friend's shop has had SEVERAL in with blown head gaskets and when they go they REALLY go! He's had to replace at least two of those engines. It would probably run like stink in a light Z and be really unique but there are other options for making big power out there too.
  2. I cannot locate the URL at the moment but there's at least one online place that sells silicone intercooler interconnects in multiple sizes by the inch cheap. This place is a diesel truck supply store online and had TONS of neat stuff for over the road trucks. T-clamps can be gotten CHEAP at any NAPA store BTW
  3. I'm aware of some of the other systems out there and of the previous GM efforts. I know someone right now who's putting enough methanol into his turbo car that he's using it for a fuel The temp drop in the intake is HUGE! My goal is to be able to run race gas like boost on pump gas! Right now I know what pump to use, what nozzles I'll probably use, and how I'll control it. What I'm looking to figure out at the moment is where to source some sort of high speed solid state relay I need to be able to use a low amperage pulsed input to control a higher voltage pump with something that's not mechanical. Oh, need to source a fluid tank too but that's easy enough. Hrm, will have to figure out exactly what nozzles I'll want to use but as cheap as they are I can try a few P.S. Looks like I'll be modifying duty of the pump rather than an injector-like solenoid. The solenoid deal just flows too little
  4. Wow, I figured at least someone would be interested in this! If you spray Methanol you can drop intake temps BIGTIME on a turbocharged car. Here this L28T guys? Meth is corrosive and requires treatments to prevent this but it can make some noticable power differences. WaterAlky can help stave off detonation even on intercooled cars. I'm down to only really needing to figure out one thing - a solid state relay of sorts - so that I can ramp up power to the pump. I've pretty much given up on a solenoid to pulse the spray since all of the ones I find that are good flow too little
  5. Just for grins - below is a FEW of the many URLs I've researched while trying to figure this out... http://www.ovlov.net/waterinjection.html http://www.turbomirage.com/water3.html http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=6970&langId=-1&catalogId=4006970&PHOTOS=on&TEST=Y&productId=53251&categoryId=0 http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=6970&langId=-1&catalogId=4006970&PHOTOS=on&TEST=Y&productId=53202&categoryId=0 http://www.shurflo.com/pdf/industry/general/product_data/pds-8000-543-138.pdf http://membersites.namezero.com/jogauthi.nmu.edu/gi/wi.htm http://www.pro-spray.com/sprayer_pumps.htm http://www.kcsaab.com/aquamist/website/ http://members.bellatlantic.net/~steppa/watera.doc http://www.angelfire.com/super/buickgn/Update.html
  6. Okay, I'm trying to design a water injection system that I can run from my ECU sort of like an injector. I've run into an area or two where I'm stumped and would appreciate some help. Starting at the pump - I'm looking to use a http://www.shurflo.com/pdf/industry/general/product_data/pds-8000-543-138.pdf Shurflo 100PSI pump or an http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=6970&langId=-1&catalogId=4006970&PHOTOS=on&TEST=Y&productId=53251&categoryId=0 equivilant. The heavier duty pump will be able to handle nasty stuff like Methanol better The Shurflo also appears to be able to handle it pretty well but I'm paranoid. I figure I'll use about a gallon poly tank as my supply in the hatch (still sourcing this). Between the pump and nozzle I'll use an accumulator such that the pump can charge the line and not need to run all of the time per this site. Somewhere in there will be a sintered bronze filter - Earl's makes a $30 one that would be fine as do others. Bronze won't corrode from Methanol I don't think and I'd run Uplon additive or something like it if anything corrosive went through anyway. Nozzles will most likely be Aquamist or possibly something similiar. Lot's of options for nozzles it seems! Oil burner nozzles even get used sometimes along with Agri sprayers. Where I run into trouble is finding a high speed relay or solenoid to pulse the nozzle That one flows 500CC and looks good but is expensive and I'm not sure 500CC will be enough. I'm looking to control this like an injector! I know someone who is doing this using a high speed relay of sorts to control pump speed and ramp it up for higher flow but I'm not sure I want to do that. I'd prefer to have a pressurized system with a pump running only as needed to keep system pressure up. I've not been able to find a high speed relay either for that matter He's selling his kit at a reasonable price (if anyone is interested lemme' know) but I think what I want to do is different enough that I'd wind up not using enough of his stuff to make it worth my while to build my own. Anyway, with all of the expertise on this board and the interest in things turbocharged I figured I'd ask here. Who wants to help design a nice water injection system? P.S. I've not decided on hose yet but air compressor hose might be an option. Something cheap with readily available brass fittings that I can disconnect to remove the tank and pump from the car on a seperate board. P.P.S. I give up on those first few URLs. Argh!
  7. Did this myself. A KEY thing to know about the Z harness is that it switches GROUND instead of hot the lights. I wrote it up and it was posted here awhile back bu tI've nto seen it lately and there was one wire wrong in it
  8. You SURE it's heavier? My V8 came out weighing about what the old L6 did!
  9. You doing a Barn Roof by any chance? I'm going to be contacting someone soon to redo my garage with a second story, higher ceiling, and I'm thinking Barn Roof to gain room upstairs. Hope I can get permits approved and whatnot. The way the current roof is leaking I've got to do something soon. Darn thing will be taller than my home until I "improve" it too...
  10. PICS ARE UP!!! I spent several hours cropping, sizing, and trying to bring out the text which was faint in more than one scan. Some are crooked but I tried to straighten them. Each page is several hundred K so be gentle guys and if anyone wants to rehost I don't mind. Goto my home page, click on Pics, and the first article - 1JZ in a Z is it - all SEVEN parts 37 pics. I also have 2 pics that snuck in of an RB26 in a Z www.blkmgk.com Enjoy and thanks to Chris in OZ for sending them over - all 200+megs.
  11. I've got the info, it was recently mailed to me for a second time from OZ after my puppy ATE the first CD I've not yet had time to upload it to my WEB site. I'm going to be out of town for a week starting Monday but will try to do it before I leave. I will probably not have time to crop, size, etc. so expect it to be a nastly big DL. I'VE not even had time to review the information! I believe the info I've got is what you're looking for, I'm sorry I've been so slow.

I'd say it's two guys working as a team - spotterdriver and shooter. He's now been spotted so a description is known and some of the evidence points to this NOT being a terrorist. He may manage to hit one or two more people but they will catch him before he gets more than that IMO. He may also just stop - with all of the idiots on TV spouting off what they're doing to catch him, to include DOD planes, he may just stop shooting and really screw them up This has occured in other cases and it makes it a bitch to catch the shooters. We'll see. Seems odd to me that so many people are talking on TV about how they're afraid and not going out of the house. They interviewed one family and it was pathetic how badly they had their kids scared. They refused to hardly go out of the house! Kripes, chances of being struck by lightning are higher than getting shot by this ******* and you don't see people cowering from that! Truly sad how some people are so determined to be afraid...
  14. Here's an interesting question to ponder - Mobil sued some companies that were calling their oils "synthetic" when in fact the oils were apparently blended to some extent - unlike Mobil 1. Mobil lost the lawsuit! Shortly afterwards Mobil "repackaged" and "improved" their oil. Anyone but me wonder if perhaps Mobil 1 isn't as pure synthetic as it was before? Seen this debated more than once recently Does Castrol blend their synthetic oils? I'm suspicious of Mobil right now but don't know for sure if they've done anything sneaky or not Blending a synthetic with a mineral based oil is supposed to be okay. Synthetic oils are supposed to have a much higher detergent action so it may clean the motor out more. Not a bad thing IMO but have a good filter on it...

5 miles is actually further away than this guy was from me. The station he hit in Manassas is bare minutes from my home and on a main drag I drive through at least 2 times a week. This last shot does indeed seem to have taken place inside a vehicle, not sure on the others. there's actually a gas station near me that I use OFTEN that's surrounded by trees on 3 sides. Before the shooting up the street people were already a little nervous, haven't filled up since but I'd imagine it's worse. Frankly, I don't think there's anything I could truly do if this guy decided to take a shot. I could be armed, wouldn't matter. Chances are I'd not even hear the shot being fired before I was dead. Friends of mine are into guns, a 300yard shot is no big deal. As long as he's under something like 200 the shot will have enough velocity to shatter on impact and impart ALL force into the victim. Further away and the bullet slows, possibly simply going through the body. This guy is shooting close it seems but may be getting pushed back some by the attention. The cops have been doing a pretty impressive job shutting things down IMO. Sure, some have seen a van that MIGHT be this guy but I think everyone's in such shock that they don't give chase. Not to mention that shots at such difference are hard to place and this guy has some distance away from his victim. What would a witness do, charge his position? Show of hands - who things this gun's clip holds just one bullet? I dunno' guys, if the public gets their hands on this shooter(s) before the police do I think it'll be pretty ugly. Actually, I think that might actually be a good thing. IMO what this guy is doing isn't all that difficult but most of us have more respect for life than he does. Perhaps letting the public get hold of this guy might deter others? What a mess...
  16. Do the exhaust first. Get the points straight. Then maybe the radiator. I'd change the fan too eventually if it cannot keep it cool at idle. All in all I think it's the exhaust...
  17. Been wondering lately - is it time ot have another drive to help Dan out? It's been awhile and a little from each of us has got to really help. He's even gotten a new project Z again
  18. Merrit Island? Heh, I have family in Cocoa and have visited with Scottie a couple of times. We'll have to hook up next I'm down to visit. How far are you from Ron Jon's? My father is REAL close to that place...
  19. Not sure what you guys mean by dry revving but... Nitrous overrevs won't be halted by a rev limiter. Nitrous and gas are all the motor needs to overrev - fuel cut won't stop it. If you've got a spark cut then that's bad too as the cylinders fill and don't fire - it fires elsewhere Best to have a rev switch on the nitrous solenoids to prevent that little problem and set it BELOW the engine rev limiter. Done right, maintained right, nitrous is fine. Stick a solenoid or screwup the wiring though and you could have a BIG boom! I've seen throttle bodies on Mustangs stuck in the fender. On the mod motors the plastic intakes come apart badly. The Holley Nossles interest me but they're awful expensive.... Arming a nitrous system before staging seems pretty stupid. Young kid right?
  20. I LOVE this stuff The AEM I'm using does some incredible logging and I'm looking to add some additional sensors. Some to check out -> http://www.kavlico.com/library/pdf/p155.pdf Westach sells those at a good price. Horsepowerfreaks.com does too for the AEM - tell Chris I sent you. Here's another one -> http://www.tfs.net/~petek/rockets/accel/accel.html Can you say linear logging of G-force in 2 axis? I was going to do that one but my ECU has fewer 0-5volt inputs than I realized. Lot's of digital I/Os though Ton's of stuff you can do with this stuff, I love it!
  21. I think these are PeakHold injectors but am not positive. I KNOW the MKIV ones are (550CC). Best place to ask, if none of the 7M members get a chance to respond, is Supraforums.com You ought to be able to pick them up cheap there or on PartsTrader.com maybe E-Bay too. BTW - Supra MKIV have a resistor box to allow the ECU to run the P/H injectors. Hondas run them too and I can try to hunt down the info on that if you need it. Honda guys on the AEM board are using them...
  22. OMG!!!!!!! I saw a couple of guys on my friend's dyno last night using two of these! They were talking about producing some sort of kit for them too - SAME blower that's in that pic too I wonder if it's that same guys? when I saw that ugly thing hanging below their bumper I didn't know that they were the ones "developing" it. I spoke up and said "that's a boat blower!". "Umm yeah, we're using two of them." I told them it wouldn't workand that it didn't flow enough air. He told me that they were using two and that the company had said it would increase the airflow if you stacked them - I told them this was NOT true but... He claimed that on a single tank of gas they had seen a 50MPG improvement, I just snickered. So, they strap this 86GT onto the dyno and run it with the two "turbos". It makes like 193RWHP with power falling off pretty early on - took forever to rev too. They then ran it against the stock airbox with a paper filter - it made about 2RWHP MORE! Next up was a run with a K&N filter in the stock airbox - 3more RWHP. Next up was an open thottlebody run, it was baout the same as the K&N I think with maybe a little less torque - I think the car was heating up some. The last run I saw was back with the "turbos" since they had found a slight leak in the tubing that they thought might have hurt performance.... I tried to reason with these guys. I tried to tell them that these little blowers couldn't make the CFM they needed but they insisted it was making 650CFM or more stacked up. I tried to tell them that it was a load on the alternator but they wouldn't listen. They tried to use a very small leaf blower to simulate airflow but they didn't seem to understand that the "50mph" rating on the leaf blower was through a VERY small hose (sigh). I stuck around to see the dyno runs and tried hard not to be too cynical but it was really hard. They tried to tell me that it would work better on a smaller engine and I tried to explain that it wasn't engine size but HP they had to worry abouot but I just gave up. Was actually funny to watch the dyno runs though!
  23. Yes, this is possible to do. However folks such as myself often hardwire the sensor into the car so it's not exactly portable. You're also talking about over $600 worth of equipment (in my case) so lending it out can be a little scary...
  24. Agreed, ZR1s are good values. There's a ZR1 site out there with a For Sale section, you might want to Google it and see what they go for. It sounds like a good price IMO but worth double checking. They're not making those anymore and I'm told that they run REALLY strong. Go for it and congrats!
  25. I own a MKIV and have one of those in my garage. IMO I think you could find better candidates. It's fairly thick but not really big and it's got plastic end tanks. If you would like I could probably take a pic or two of it if I can get my camera working It's maybe a little bigger than an FD3 RX7 intercooler but not by much.
