I got really ticked off last night on the way home from work. I was driving the Z through down town Bend, Or. (not much to it) at about two in the morning and a cop got behind me. He was pretty far back, so no big deal, then he speeds up to close in on my back bumper. Now I'm not doing anything...maybe five over, all my lights work, so I'm still not worried, but he's still following me close. After about a mile we are rolling up to a red light, I turn on my left signal and get into the turning lane, he rolls straight, then gets halfway into the turn lane (no signal) at the last minute and stops so close I think he's about to tap my bumper. I figure he's running my plates, I don't have anything outstanding so no big deal. We take off and I change lanes (with blinker) to get out of his way, and what do you know, I have a tail. I switch back and so dose he, then he follows me about another mile or two again, right on my bumper before turning off into a 7-11. What the F is the deal? It's pretty irritating that you can do nothing wrong (other then driving a semi-loud camed out sports car) and have cops up your butt your whole drive home. Sorry for the long rant, this isn't the first time it's happened in the Z, just getting a little peeved.

I think the worst I ever had it from drivng was our family trip back about four years ago we drove from Georgia to Northern Cali. from there to Reno, and then down to So. Cal and back to Georgia. We took about a month, but man my right knee was in bad shape. I messed it up in the military, then I guess just the way my leg sits when I have my foot on the gas in my wifes truck. Nothing ever got swollen up, feel bad for you guys.

Oh...Mustang, thats why! Just kidding...Suprised you diddn't get stoped by the cops, I bet Mustangs are one of there top pics to catch speeding.

Wow, nice! I think i'm driving the Z to work today. Video's like this are an insperation to Z drivers everywhere!
-
WOW... I drove from So.Cal to Alaska in my Z without any foot problems. My foot got warm, but no problems like that! Maby add some heat sheilding around the drivers side floor board?
-
So...they never answered the question, how much... JUST KIDDING! I agree, I am almost 30 now, and think I may have just missed the "entitlement" generation, or maybe it's because I was brought up in a house watching my Mom and Pop bust there butts to get what we needed as a family. What's the point of a project if someone else dose it for you? And what are the chances of actually doing any work to your car when you're to lazy to even figure out if the engine came stock with FI or carb? I would expect to get flamed and banned here for such ignorance.

I don't know anything about BMW's, but that one looks nice. What would be fun would be to show up at the guys house and act interested, get it out on a test drive and have the guy time it for you up to 100. When it's in the 15 sec. range, tell him you'r not interested anymore. Nothing like beatin' the crap out of someone elses car.

I just got the "Now I'm in your face" clip after about the 20th time...guess I'm a little slow on the uptake as well.

Wow...you know what I could do to my Z for 30,000? EVERYTHING! I like this quote from that board. "I don't own a Shelby vehicle. I have no desire to own a Shelby vehicle. I don't envy those of you who DO own a Shelby vehicle. The Ford vehicles I do own piss me off to no end." I'm not a Ford fan, more of a MOPAR (Fiat...I want to gag) guy when it comes to American cars, but boy is it funny (and cool) to hear a Ford fan talking smack about there own manufacturer. I guess it's true with any car though...I love my Z but I think it's a love/hate relationship. If it's not broke, I'm in a mad rush to fix it before it dose!

Picture request, msa type II rear cover on a 280ZX
thrustnut replied to terrya's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Hey, I have ether a type 2 or 3 on my car and it wasn't even close to fitting when I got it. It needed lots of trimming and filling. I removed my bumper shocks, not much need for them without a bumper, there pretty heavy as well. Just hope I don't get rear-ended! I can e-mail you some pics tomorrow if you send me your address (or tell me how to post pics). -
I tried my own post, but maybe this one will get more results. Has anyone tried Pulsar seats? There's one post in here that says they will fit, just want to see if anyone has tried it yet. I'm gonna go check the J/Y again this week, they had a set out of an 87 Pulsar last week in pretty good shape for 40.00. If no one has done it yet, I will try to post pics after install.

My advice is to put it back how it was unless you had a problem with the stock charging system. I did the GM 100 amp internally regulated alternator swap on my 77 Z and had a massive failure. It was not the alternator or MY re-wiring, it was a failure with the stock wiring. When you upgrade the charging system in an old car without upgrading the wiring the extra amperage will find the weak links in the system. I have not read the write up, but I would check the wiring diagram and make sure the wires make sense. Don't "assume" that the wiring is correct, especially when it comes to your charging system. It took me a week of tearing into wiring to figure out that Datsun's version of a splice is to wrap one wire around a bare spot in another wire, cover it with black tape and then stuff it in a harness. After 20 years the wires corrode and you don't have good continuity. Luckily the charging systems aren't complicated...look at your diagram, if you can't read it leave it alone.

That site was awesome...I lived in Georgia for a while and the teenage kids would go and hang out at Walmart on Friday and Saturday nights...and I thought my teenage years where boring!

When I wrestled in High School before a meet we would cut arm and neck holes in trash bags and run in them for a couple miles and not eat for a day or two to cut weight before the weigh in. Then as soon as we made weight it was a mad rush to the nearest fast food joint to load up again. I think if your car makes weight when you cross the scales, where the weight is shouldn't matter. Like stated before "he who cheats best wins". In John's case it was all about the sponsors and his company. If you don't think he knew it was wrong, take another look at the video. Who out there with there own business wouldn't take a personal fall (though it might be embarrassing) to further there company, and in a racer's stand point, please the sponsors? He know's who pays the bills.

Hey, sorry only taken it out the one time since putting in the off-road kit. I work nights and it's been in the low 40's on the way home which is no fun without a heater, and the temp swings ( 80's in the day and 30-40's at night) make tuning a carb a pain in the butt. I would also like to figure somthing else out...there's just somthing weird about putting FOD in my carb and driving it.

I dunno...when I want a beer I want a BEER. If I'm not full after two or three, it's time to switch. With my weird schedule and line of work I don't get much time to drink, so when I do I want something that's gonna pound the edge off with a hammer. My favorite is Dead Guy Ale, a couple of those and the stresses of the day don't matter anymore. I think of carbs like fuel for my Z...it needs it to run. What kind of mileage? Who cares...bet I get there before a Prius

LOL...ya, I have that problem with John all the time. It's like "Johnny how meny times do I have to smack you around before you just give up, big guy?" Or maby thats just in my dreams...

They make beer......in a can? Man I love the North West!

Did some more google searching and it looks like the seats where are in the 1987 NX version for sure. Any pics of them in a Z?
-
So I have been looking for some normal seats to replace my racing seats, I did it for the look about five years ago and have found them to be a bit of a pain as I don't go to the track. There is a late 80's early 90's two door Pulsar at the J/Y with the kinda different looking seats with the long skinny headrest area (sorry for the poor description, but if you have seen them then you know what I mean). I thought they might look kinda cool, but I can't find a picture of them anywhere to refresh my memory. I just wanted to know if anyone has tired those seats, how they fit and if you have a picture. I did some searching on HBZ, but all I could find where the bigger Pulsar seats. I would hate to get them installed and not like the look. Thanks! BTW- I will have a set of black NEX seats for sale cheep if I pick these ones up. Let me know if interested!

timing problem, cant get engine to run right
thrustnut replied to stravi757's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
Bubbles of coolant? Check the radiator cap and see if you have oil slime on it. White smoke is coolant for the most part. I don't think that has anything to do with your timing. Some one with a later model Z might be more help, but I believe those dizzys are halls effect type and not much going on inside (moving parts wise). -

Somthing weird with your dizzy. So are you saying you have 50 deg. total advance at 3500 RPM? -

Is the dowel pin on the cam in the #2 hole? Is there anything you need to disconnect when checking your timing? You should also be able to change idle independent of timing. Set your timing, check your idle, adjust your idle to spec, then re-check timing. Also might want to check your all in timing (full advance) and make sure your getting that. It would explain why your slugish on the top end. -
I pay for my system to be "immediate" and I also pay for false alarms. If my alarm goes off and the cops aren't here ASAP, I'm gonna call my alarm company and have someone's a$$. I would rather have the cops show up pointing guns at me and make me prove I live here then them show up when they feel like it. Most of the time my wife and kids are here alone but between the dog the shotgun (which my wife is pretty good with) and the alarm, I think there pretty safe.

I would say screw the bigger gun, get a home security system and let the cops show up with guns. Nothing (other then my family) in my house is worth a shoot out...though I do keep a 12 guage under the bed "just in case".
