  1. We probably did, but I'm not sure I formally introduced myself. I think I snuck a peek at your car at Daytona during the track event. I was there sharing time with kjones in his turbo L6 280z. I'll probably miss Cleveland (new baby at home), but I'm looking toward 2009. But if the Z is up and running with a LS1 swap by September you never know... Mid-Ohio would be fun.
  2. Wow, your timing could not have been more perfect. I was just looking for videos of LSX swaps running track days last night. After spending some time around Phantom's car and seeing the LSX guys at Daytona I think I've finally settled on the LSX swap. In the end it's the most practical way to meet my goals for the Z.
  3. No doubt that N/A headers can be made. From what I've seen/heard about the VH mounted in an S30, there's not much space to fit them without hitting the frame rails. All of my info is second hand or based on photos though as I don't actually have the engine yet.
  4. Sweet find. I looked briefly for M3 sedans in decent shape but they're hard to come by. Enjoy!
  5. Gotta disagree with the "no aftermarket" statement. VK56 certainly has the best aftermarket support of any Nissan V8. That's not saying much but there are supercharger kits, JWT cams, etc.
  6. Excellent. The VH45 swap is really tempting. It looks like serious frame rail modifications will be necessary to fit NA headers though. VH turbo... hmm....
  7. Are you going to try to get these around the frame rails? Will they require notching or something more involved like markg's engine mounting?
  8. I'm constantly distracted by other project ideas. Within the last year I've thought about: 1. LS2 FD RX7 2. 1964 Lincoln Continental 3. Homebuilt/traditional rod 4. Turbo e39 5. FJ40
  9. The Specialty Products universal boots fit well. I managed to order them through O'Reilly for about half of what MSA sells them for.
  10. Oops. heh... Considering I probably read that in the installation instructions, I'd bet you're right.
  11. Do a search for 'spindle pin' - things are about to get fun
  12. Like everyone else has said, an impact gun makes easy work of it. I seem to remember something in the Tokico instructions saying not to use one on their shocks though. Depending on how long it has been assembled, I've had decent luck using cheap Northern Tool strap wrenches to hold the shock rod. If you're replacing them anyway, just use the impact and save the frustration for something else.
  13. sonnofa... All of the guys in my office were equally "unimpressed." heh.
  14. Go to the drugstore and look for Tegaderm. They are clear bandages that you put directly over injuries like road rash. The difference is incredible.
  15. Yup. Same license plate even. But I can't blame the guy for trying to turn a profit.
  16. Ok, back on topic. Something I always suspected but recently experienced is that power delivery makes a huge difference. A "big turbo" car on track can be a real handful. Especially dropping into low RPM and having the turbo spool up on a low-speed corner exit. I look forward to trying it again. da-man: It's ok, I'm not offended. Just didn't want to get into another pointless pissing contest over the tubes.
  17. No thanks. You started in on this thread with a silly statement and have descended into Internet buffoonery. I'm done.
  18. Your conversation makes it sound like you don't have the funds necessary to seriously consider his work. I've gone round and round with those kinds of customers in the past and don't any longer. His frustration is understandable, but his temper tantrum isn't.
  19. How about the inverse... When is the contest more car than driver? Rolling start street racing?
  20. I see my options as basically 1. come up with spacers to move the mounting bracket up and out of the way of the bulge (that's going the wrong way), or 2. cut the bulge out and replace it with a shape more like the 240z. I need the seats to be at stock height or lower, so I'm thinking that #2 is the only viable option.
  21. What did you do to deal with that bulge in the trans tunnel? I'm about to go through the same process with my Recaros.
  22. I am really impressed with the performance of the R4S in combination with the vented rotor upgrade. kjones is running that setup on his (very very fast) 280Z. We drove that car in run groups 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the PDX at the ZCCA convention. Of the 16 sessions it probably ran 12 of them and the brakes never faded.
