  1. When I get my new muffler if you haven't figured out how loud that is already, I will post up a vid before I put it on, I am stock mani back 2.5 with just a muffler, it almost sounds like a v8 only a bit quieter, and I have a stock style muffler, no resonator, no cat, just strait pipe. Edit, oh, its nice to see I am not the only broke highschool kid on here!, hoo-rah for that. I can't afford crap. Good think I am getting over 20 hours this week. Should have a tasty pay check coming!
  2. Wrong, (sorry to sound like a dick) I have been around open wheel racing since I was a baby, really, a few months old and in the stands. Full sized midgets and sprint cars do not have a clutch or a starter. They have push bumpers, you pull a truck over, click the rear end into gear, push, flip switch, RUMBLE. Mini sprints, Focus powered midgets, Kenyan cars, and (at Irwindale) Silver Crown cars, have clutches and starters. They still don't have a transmission (although I'm not sure about the new Silver Crowns, I don't like them much). I don't know if you know who Steve Kinser is, but I am named after him. My name is Kinser. Like I said, my grandpa owns a midget, my dad owns a sprint car. haha, random that I own a z huh? Overall, there are lots of very similar cars in the sprint/midget area. Some are different. The midget engines you are looking at here (Esslinger) are built for short track push started midgets. Youtube video of Indianapolis Speed Drome and Paragon Motor Speedway (the 2 track my grandpa and dad run at) the one below is an example of the focus powered midgets (with a starter) This is regular midgets. My grandpa is involved in the accident at 2:40 To give you the idea of push starting Sprint Cars at Paragon(dads car is the Harbor Blue #44) Sorry about all the videos, just trying to give you the Idea. I really love open wheel racing (say its redneck all you want) Like I said, been around it all my life, and after all, I was born in Indiana.
  3. Cool, this should be an interesting build to watch.
  4. So how did you mount it? no way it just bolted right up.
  5. For sure, a Bulter built can run you 2500. In my mind, when it comes to safety, no amount is to much. Especially if you have a track car and race often.
  6. Most likely will. My grandpas midget used to run an esslinger, now its the same idea, its got Maverick block that's built. Its really awesome. I think that this is a great idea. Biggest problem is, these motors are built for non transmission, non starter, no clutch idea. Midgets are push started, the have a torque tube containing the "Drive Shaft" which goes to the rear end and the final (only) drive gear. If you put a transmission on and all, which shouldn't be super hard. You would have to see how the engine performs, since they are designed for short track racing.
  7. Cool. When I can afford it I plan to put something similar in my street car. Not sure if its a good idea yet or not. I can see a few more blind spots coming. But butler built seats are real comfy since they are made for you.
  8. As for the paint thing. It really is amazing what a little bit of time and effort can do. I used dollar wal-mart gloss black and made the valve covers on my dads sprint car nice and shiny. Have yet to do any real painting on my 280z
  9. For everybody complaining about the strength of the struts. I came up with a great idea. Buy your own struts, of equal length, with a stronger force. You can compress the stock springs like that to, it takes some force. I have done it before so I know that it is possible.
  10. True, but its just something I notice, wheels still look pretty sick.
  11. Dude, directional tires, they are backwards (I work at discount tire and that looks really strange, if I did that I would get fired)
  12. That looks solid to me. Can't tell unless its in person... Maybe get a fellow hybrid member in the area of the car to look at it in person before making the drive?
  13. Ok, small update, it snowed here today, So I am not going up to Portales to hang out with 240z8 today. I my bushings are on their way, like out for delivery by UPS. Right now I took out the radio because the Idle surge and I want to fix the hack job wiring. I got paid so I am slowly crawling out of the debt I am in with this car, had it for not even a month and I was 640 under, I am 463 away from being totally out. (Not with banks so everybody knows, family aka mom loans) As soon as I am out I will go with either 240sx or 280zx alternator so I can get rid of the external voltage regulator. Then I am getting rid of the stupid fusible links.
  14. Those wheel adapters look alright. Basically same thing as spacers which I have seen used alot. Obviously you cant afford AZZC stuff, nobody can. I have been on vacation, and I might be bringing my car down tomorrow to Portales =P To bad I cant mess with Graham. Either way. Yes, I was thinking about getting that red 240sx. 500 bucks. I bet they would take 300. Especially being how long they have had it, and thats about all they will get for it as a chunk of steel. Throw a l28e in there cause it had a blown motor, and you got a fun car. lol
  15. ok, since I saw the post, I think 7k is a bit high, unless it is really rust free (Its not, they never are, unless it was a bare metal resto. I would really think, with my experience with the number of z's Ive seen for sale, I saw a 1970 240z that was auto for 2000. I saw a 1978 280z one owner 58k original miles, auto, for 5800. This car really was the cleanest z I had ever seen. garage kept since 78.
  16. That's a really clean looking car. If you get it for around 2,000 then your getting one great deal. Judging from pictures, but pictures always make cars look better.
  17. As for being 16 and not welding, A mig welder is fairly easy to learn with practice. Find a friend that has one, or who's father has one that will loan it for free you just buy wire and gas. Then you get an old fridge side. Weld in as floor pans. time, a few materials. Done, you have floor pans for 150 or less maybe. I plan to do it on about a 50 dollar budget. Although I'm not doing a full replacement.
  18. Yep, I went to a local car club thing today, it was the first meet. gonna start soon. I am one of the first in it. lol
  19. I'll give that a shot, as well as getting a 280zx alternator if I can so that I can double check.
  20. A red 240sx and a grey 240sx that was rearended with aluminum tape. They want 500 for the red one, has a twin cam ka thats got a knock headers and exhaust. oh and the shifter wasnt actually hooked up and there isnt any clutch pedal feel. it drops bottom and doesnt come back up. haha.
  21. I saw that as well. I plan to do a version of that. I am getting idle surge, and it gets worse with the more power I use. For that reason I believe its because my alternator is putting out to little power, which may be the fusible links. By the clicking, you have never heard a relay click?
  22. Seriously help is appreciated, I have been looking, thinking its my alternator because it doesnt put out enough power. Can anybody point me to a z32 alternator install instruction, searching, and the most popular is a GM install
  23. Ok guys, I really need somebody to help me out as soon as possible. Like really want this fixed. My 280z is giving me an idle issue. A relay, I believe that Cylinder one on the drivers side, that or one of the two box ones, but I am pretty sure the cylinder one (will include picture later but its a bad cell pic, all I can get) clicks, and the car goes from 750 to 500 up and down, sometimes almost stalls if I don't hit the gas a little. It gets worse as I turn more electronics on. For example, lights, then brights, then hazards, then rear defog, then radio and so on. Just stuff like that, and it gets worse. As it happens you hear the relay clicking, and sometimes it just makes like a buzz noise. Is it the relay or is it my alternator? I really really can't afford an alternator and if I get a new one I am going to go z32 turbo 90 amp. Which leads to another question. Will a stock s30 alternator pass as a z32 core? I don't think it will, which makes the price from 150 to like 200+. I really hope you can help. As for the relay, here is a pic. I will make a video but its hard to get one on a cell that you can really hear it right. The car is kinda loud for the cell mic. How do you get the relay out and what does it do? Its in a tight bad spot so I can't really see up there good and have no idea.
  24. Finally and update, I am having issues with my idle, so I am about to post up about it, see if I can get answers. PUT THE ENGINE IN ALREADY! And yes, I was yelling at you, could you hear me in Portales? haha
  25. I'm going to open up a shop doing work like this. I can weld/know what I'm doing. I never realized my skill was of such value. HMMM... LOL, Justin, you should get in on my business. Oh and MIG welding is fine, TIG is not necessarily stronger, neater and more precise than MIG.
