  1. Yep, the 2 bigger ones in the Northwest are Canby and the BC meet on Sept. 8-9.
  2. My buddy, Kelvin, is working away on his 510 wagon. It's his 3rd 510, first time with a wagon. It's far from finished, but you'll get an idea of where he's going with it. His other 510s are here: http://www.datsun510.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=9&sl=k Makes me miss my 510s a little bit, but I'm stoked to be getting closer to getting my Z done. http://www.datsun510.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=49
  3. No myth. Header wraps will kill your headers much sooner than without it. It keeps extreme heat inside and will eat away material over time. A friend of mine wrapped his exhaust manifold and about 2 years later, took the manifold off, dropped it and it broke in a couple pieces. Also kills cast iron!! Ceramic coating is the way to go, as you get a layer inside and outside of the metal.
  4. Quite a selection at http://www.shox.com , along with places like Motorsport Auto and stuff on Ebay. Not too hard to find the stuff. (luckily)
  5. That's exactly what I was talking about. I drove a friends original 63,000 mile 510 and it was flat-out scary. When a sign said "25 mph" for a corner, you had to take it at 25 mph! Hard paying real money for a car that doesn't handle well, doesn't drive nice (compared to newer stuff) and is "stock". We all know "Friends don't let friends drive stock!!" While it may be entertaining to drive, it's not what I'd call "fun".
  6. I saw a picture of all the 240Z "rollers" that were ugly infront of the shop and they had to be chained together so nobody would take them. I'll have to dig up some old issues of Z Car Magazine, which did an article on the program. Still probably cheaper than doing one yourself.
  7. Yep, it was a decade ago! They bought up a ton of original 240s (only '70 & 71s) and contracted Classis Datsun to do full restorations. I can't see spending real money like that for a '70s technology 240Z, but would have liked one with more "modern enhancements", if you know what I mean. Getting all those new & reman stuff would be cool. Of course, you could get financing for the $22K+ dollars they went for.
  8. If you can chop it up and send me that section, I can shoot you some money for it and shipping.
  9. I am also going with the C5 Vette (Z06) seats in my Z, but I loved the 3rd gen RX-7 seats (the R1 version came with black suede) and were very easy to install in my 510 and would definitely work in the Z.
  10. Hey guys, so any of you happen to have a section (or a toasted hatch you don't mind cutting up) of the Z hatch, about an 18" section centered on the hatch release button? I'm going to design a good remote setup for the Z and need one to work with, as my car has new paint and I don't want to use it for "trial & error". I'll do a write up on it and pass it along to everyone. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
  11. Just about everything gets better mileage than a rotory!!
  12. You'd be hard pressed to get any 4 banger with any real power to get 40 mpg in the Z. I know a bunch of the roadster guys with NA SR20s get about 32 mpg at 80 mph, but they are much smaller than a Z, too. The TDI setup would most likely get you power and mileage. I'll live with mid-high 20s mpg in my BMW 540i and the Z.
  13. I've had awesome results with Magnecor. http://www.magnecor.com Here's a good place for them. They list for $107 for the LSX, but are $79 here: http://www.ultrarev.com/search.php?mode=search#85259 Put "Sale" in the coupon code at checkout and get another 5% off.
  14. Yep, definitely looks like a fun day at Mosport. A Canadian Z spanking the "American Musclecar", maybe they build them faster up there, eh? NAH!!!

  16. Yes, 4th gear is a 1:1 but the 15" race tires are really tall and both the 'Cuda and Challenger top speeds are at 7200 rpm on the high banks there at Daytona. Of course, I was surprised at how well the "stock bodied" Challenger did at that speed with no front spoiler. Also shows the difference in "old school" vs current Nascar stuff with restrictor plates. In Nascar, it takes them 1 1/2 laps to get up to those speeds. I could come off the road course onto Nascar turn 1 and be at those speeds on the back straight. I got passed by a Ferrari 333SP doing 220 mph and an original Ford GT40 blew by me, too. It's cool just getting to fly around Daytona, no matter what car.
  17. At Daytona, I've hit 160 mph in the AAR 'Cuda (4.10 rear gears) and 180 mph in the Petty Challenger (3.53 rear gears), both 4 speed cars. (below) My BMW 540i is electronically controlled at 155 mph. The VG turbo 510 was pretty much pushing too much wind around 135 mph. (may do 140 w/ a tail wind) As for the Z, I'll see what it can do later this year! At least it looks fast!
