  1. Ok now I finally got that Steeda Tri-Ax short shifter ment for the mustang T-5 in as a result it works & fits like it was made for the 280zx T-5, haven't missed a shift at all, although the only thing was that I can't fit is my shift boot & center console since the shifter fits forward a little but that's the least if my worries, check it out and tell me what you guys think. http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/ab149/muerte_miquiztli/6855e50a.jpg http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/ab149/muerte_miquiztli/6159660d.jpg http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/ab149/muerte_miquiztli/34a094a2.jpg
  2. wish I could say I got it with my donor car it's kinda rare not too many Zs have it.
  3. Just google your ecu number and take your time to look and match it up with your car. Me on the other hand when I bought my 83 turbo donor car already had a different ecu off a Z31 how I found out was googleing it and match up the number to a Z31 turbo
  4. Hey guys hope not to throw anyone off but I'm throwing this out I just did a turbo motor swap (L28ET) in my 81 non turbo the motor came off my 83 turbo donor car motor and tranny(T-5), ok so I did a Z31 ecu swap with AFM and had a lik trouble making it run right from what I know so far that goes along with the ecu swap you also have to do the O2 sensor which I have not done yet but will order it on Monday the car ran fine but has a bi of a trouble taking off good it seems to want to turn off when it's at stops or I stutters a bit when taking off but does idle real good I tried a few AFM's that a buddy of mine had laying around they seem to help, but ilwhat I want to know is what the heck to I need if any of you guys gone threw the same problem with the ecu swap help me out!
  5. If wanna Mess around with the z31 ecu I believe it's a 16 bits instead of a 8 bits like the 280zxt ecu, the map is way more open and you can make adjustments but I don't recommend it until you have accually driven the car around for awhile I'ma be using Nistune for my z31 ecu way better then using megasquirt, and I really recommend doing this ecu swap for anyone tuning there 280zxt. http://www.nistune.com/
  6. Holy cow that's real low lol, nice ride I can't wait to post mine after the engine swap keep up the good work guys and keep them coming.
  7. I had my L28ET with T-5 finally swapped in my 81 non turbo and put In the steeda tri ax short throw shifter in the only problem I came across was that the shifter is closer forward on the console but worked out well all I have to do is figure out if the original boot will fit which I'm having difficulty with, will have pictures up soon to show you guys just wanna finish making my car run right running a little too rich but idles real well.
  8. When I purchased my 83 280zx turbo donor car I never had the impression that the guy did this swap already, he didn't even tell me at the time all he handed me was a 240sx TB with the adaptor plate, a stock 83 280zx turbo ecu, manual boost control, a BOV with adaptor still didn't know any of this info now reading this helped me out a bit, the car ran fine with no problems traveling over 300 miles, but when we pulled the motor out to swap it into my 81 280zx non turbo the ecu was the only thing giving the problem, looking at the 83 280zx wiring diagram (not knowing that it already had the 87 ecu & MAF) , but I googled the ecu and it came to be the 87 ecu lol.
  9. I recently ran into the problem of ball steering when swapping in the L28ET stupid power steering box was in the way of the wastegates accuator and my 83 donors R+P was damaged due to the wheels falling off so I will be swapping to R+P soon.
  10. I've seen that car (not the same exact one) at a car show when I was just a kid wow I bet it's not the real one though!

  12. I have tryed different ones right now I'm in the process of adjusting my lights nothing big I just put my lights on for visiblity not for looks we got a lot of dark streets and my lights weren't doing the job. Not really judging only talking about what I've seen here I know there better lights out there and honestly don't care to brag or judge cuz I ain't.
  13. damn you don't come by those to often I seen a 78 fairlady 280z in Portland Oregon like a few months ago on craigslist.
  14. Here's this JDM front bumper on craigslist from Milpitas, California selling for $100 http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/pts/1671229193.html http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/ab149/muerte_miquiztli/ac406a79.jpg
  15. yes sir I have and at first I thought it was a R180 but then checked and that's why I took it to nissan just to verify with the parts manager there which is the one doing the swap on my car.
  16. don't know if your answer was directed to me or the others but if so, I can confirm my differential is a R200 every car has a number in the door that tells all the info, I went to Nissan and happen to know the parts manager himself no reason for him to mislead me for what he told me, all I was doing is passing info that's was given to me by a parts manager I even got the explanation of how everything works, like I said some non turbos came with R200's and some didn't but you also said you weren't sure from the info you got from your book. Who knows but I always like double checking my stuff before I say something that Im not sure about.
  17. I guess I was lucky to have that front air dam like yours lol. http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/ab149/muerte_miquiztli/807245db.jpg
  18. just to let you know my 81 280zx N/A 5spd has a R200 3.90 gears make sure to go to a Nissan dealer and have any parts manager check the car usually a # on the inside of the door will tell if you have a R200 or R180 just remeber what he told me some came with R200 but not all. the short nose diff's are the R230 like on the Q45 or Z32's. And yes the CV axles bolt right up, I asked the same question to the parts manager here where I live and he said they do bolt up.
  19. I need some expert help, I'm debating in what differential I should use for my 280zx when I do my Full turbo swap (L28ET, T-5) I have the subframe from my 83 280zx turbo which is a R200 3.54 gears CV joints, the one in my 81 non turbo is a U joint R200 3.90 gears what do you guys think I should use in terms of either getting the acceleration from the R200 3.90 gears in my non turbo or the R200 with 3.54 gears in the turbo I know the turbo one would give me better top speed but the one in my non turbo will give me better acceleration I live a somewhat small city so there's not that many long stretched roads to be topping out my car nor do I street race often but I do want to start going to the track to race there so what do u guys think I should do? What set up do you have in your turbo?
  20. The funniest thing that got me was what the guy said on the ad on eBay: "I have done alot of looking around in different z forums / internet and have yet to see one pushing this much power from its factory engine" ok first off in my opinion the 280zx was not made for dragging but for track, that's were these car were born to be, oh yeah 780rwhp is awesome who wouldn't want that much power in there car but everyone has there own plan and "selfishness" as I like to put it which is totally cool but not every here wants a drag car either I want to use it as something I can comfortly drive and also have fun in. I think he just wanted to add that as if he is the coolest guy with a 280zx, who knows next topic will be 1000hp L28ET finally achieved heck I don't know!! That's why I even made this topic to hear all your opinions on this guy who I know for a fact this isn't his first fast car and not deep true fan of the 130z could of made a simple video of the car running on a dyno or some kind of video, like that guy on YouTube with those 2 videos of his 81 280zx with the L20ET swap making 500hp
  21. The guy won't release any info on the specs of the car unless your a serious buyer, he wants $15,000 asking price which for me ain't worth buying a built 280zx for that much especially in this kind of economy when most of us are on a budget or rather just built our own car from scratch.
  22. yeah I read it, but he can't compare what a built L28ET to a built VG30 will do I guess if it ever comes out on video well find out.
  23. I was surfing the web on 280zx's and came upon a really interesting 83 280zx turbo that supposly has 798hp check it out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nissan-280ZX-FULLY-BUILT-780-rwhp-280ZX-TURBO-1-OF-A-KIND-9-SEC-CAR-RARE-CLASSIC_W0QQitemZ170464002844QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item27b072431c#ht_19814wt_802
  24. I had the same problem with my 81 non turbo but my starter was going bad so I replaced it along with my alternater, I had a turbo alternater from a L28ET motor I had laying around and put it on, at first I was concerned that it wasn't gonna work but upto now I haven't had any problems. You might wanna get starter & alternater checkout by one of those electric motor repair shops real good and cheap just call some up or just take the parts to get them so they can test them.
