I almost had my first crack last night. My buddy saw it before me, but all he could do was piont and yell at the top of his lungs "AAAHHHGGGGGG!!!!!!! " pretty funny after the fact... as luck would have it, I was able to react in time to the piece of garbage in the middle of the road, and get around it. But I know something is gona happen soon.. just the price we pay for DRIVING these cars..

Car 'hunting and darting' in the front end at high speed..
datsunlover replied to datsunlover's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Well Im planing on doing ALL the rubber bushings this winter, as well as full suspension all around.. cause evrything is fubar in that department.. I really shouldn't be driving that fast anyway.. .. it's just weird that this problem would be SO pronounced after changing the rear tires, where as before it was only a slight issue.. And it happens wherever I drive, no matter what condition the road surface is.. I took her up to 110 mph tonite on a flat 'back road' and man it was scarry! (though it might get better over 100 or something ..nope) Like I said, I'll get the alignment checked out.. and probly try running 4 tires the same size.. I'm thinking its mostly alignment related now.. I did some HARD cornering tonite at 70+ mph and the car reacted amazinly through the twisties at that speed.. but as soon as the straightaway comes up.. hang on for dear life! I'll let you guys know what happens.. -
I didnt have a problem to start with, but I cant leave well enought alone.. I was switching to carbs, and had MAJOR welding to do in the rear of the car, so I pulled the tank off. (not bat really.. about 20 mins of work) I then discovered some awefull crapola inside so I filed it with 4-5 gal of varsol, sloshed it around a bit, and left it over night (in my garage.. wow what a stink the next day!) sloshed it around some more the next day, drained it, and let it sit in the sun for a day (to let it all evaporate). Put it back in, instaled new low psi fuel pump, and havn't had a problem at all in 3000 miles. (yah, I drive this thing twice a week.. you'd think it'd be less than that in only 2 months! ) Mind you when I put in the pump, I used all new rubber lines, and only reused the stock (which had been replaced 2 years ago) metal fuel feed/return lines from pump to engine bay. I have noticed though, at under 1/8 of a tank it sucks and starves sometimes if I corner hard or go up steep hills..

Man.. that is AWESOME! Nice driving dude.. I have to find some place here to go and do that.. By the spring, I hope to have my car 'up to snuf' suspension/braking wise, and some more hp under my foot.. then I'll have to learn to drive it again! I was thinking of getting a few friends together and seeing if we could start a local autoX club.. there are a few new parking lots around here that would be perfect for it.. just have to get permision and go out after store hours.. heh heh.. Cool stuff man..

Car 'hunting and darting' in the front end at high speed..
datsunlover replied to datsunlover's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Well, it's got an air dam.. Im thinking of cutting a hole in it though (about 3" down and as wide as the grill area) to let some air in OVER it.. And the car isnt lowered (properly anyway.. read-> worn out stock suspension! ) As for the front end, I have one ball joint that is a little worn, but not a lot.. tie-rods and rack are tight.. Im gona get the alignment checked out for starters.. it's just weird that I notice it SO much after I put on the 195/70 tires on the rear.. Maybe the forward tilt has thrown off the front sespension/stearing geometry? -
High Tech Passenger Convenience Device for Hybrid Zs

That's awsome!!! AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA ROTFLMFAO!!!!!! I need that in my car.. -
How can we stop HybridZ from turning into another Zcar.com ?
datsunlover replied to Forrest's topic in Site Support
Yah, I agree with the blocking posts for a period of time.. it would cut down on the people that just sign on here to post a for sale add, or ask a silly question right off the hop. And I find most folks will just dissapear if they don't want to search, and find another web site to frequent. Personally, if I had signed on here and wasn't alowed to post for a short period of time, I would wait it out. Look around, and if need be, try to find other ways to get in touch with members if I had a Q I needed answered.. but thats just me.. Hell.. I signed on here way back when cause I had an old Z and figured it was probly the only site related to my car! I forgot about it for a few years till I picked up my Z last year, and by chance found the site again. (I posted a page on cardomain, someone here saw it, and told me about the site.. I though.. HEY! I remember signing up for that 3 years ago! ) Anyway, I love this site, and also have a HUGE folder on my computer of saved text info that helped me along the way with my Z. I am guilty of not searching sometimes, I admit it.. but I try not to ask stupid questions that could be answered by comon sence or a simple thought process.. And if I answer a post with incorect/conflicting info, I will apologise.. but getting 'flamed' for something really bugs me.. Im the kind of person to try to help out if I can.. and getting insulted for it just isn't cool. I say bring down the hammer! And seing as I'm back to working steady and am 'financially back on my feet' so to speak, I plan on making a site donation soon.. I just hope it isn't bacause I HAVE to to be allowed to keep coming here... -
Well, I have a weird problem here.. It wants to go all over the place! I just got my car on the road a month ago, and in Ontario, you have to pass a certification.. with that said, you have to assume my front end (steering, suspension) cant be all that bad. I noticed the car doing this stightly for the past few weeks, but it seams to be worse now that I have changed the rear tires.. I was running 195/60/14 all around (I know, too low and small.. but it was all I had to pass the safety check!) and since I picked up that 280zx parts car, I got two good 195/70/14 tires which I put on the rear. While this helped me with the gear ratios/cruising RPM, it seams to have had a negative effect on handling at anything over 70mph.. It is tight in the front end.. but sort of 'loose' at the same time (if you know what I mean???) It's like towing something heavy with a little truck and the front end gets really light.. I can feel the 'whale tail' actually doing it's job out back, and I figured with the huge sway bar and air dam up front, it would be stable.. but it's actually quite scarry! I literally have to hang on with both hands and be reeeeeal carefull to stay in my lane! All I can think of is maybe my alignment is WAY out.. of the rear tail is doing it's job TOO well and causing the front to lift up.. Any suggestions?

Not sure on the head choices (as Im still trying to figure it all out for mine; 280z head on a zx block, yada yada) BUT; I have 71 SU's and I love them. Not hard at all to figure out at all. I dont even have them synced properly yet, but they are SOOO simple to make work! (me and a buddy spent an hour dissasembling and cleaning with varsol, put them together the next day and had my car running in 30 mins!) I just have mine tuned by ear (as well as my timing.. ) right now but they seam to suply plenty of fuel, and have a cool sound to them to boot. I was woried at first using them on my 2.8, thinking they wouldnt suply enough fuel (seeing as they came off a 2.4L engine) but there seams to be lots of adjustment; I only have my adjustrs out 2 turns and it still runs a bit rich! (I think intitial settings call for 2.5 to 3 turns out..) Id say match the intake ports to the head, and run good/rebuilt SU's.

Back off! Get your own foot!! LMAO Nice photoshop Aux..

Well, it's come down to this. Costco sells......
datsunlover replied to auxilary's topic in Non Tech Board
Yah.. but what will you care when you're dead?!?!? Forget that man.. Im getting creamated (sp?!?) I'll put my last wishes down as 'RENT the cheapest box you can find, dump me in the fire after the wake, and get it back before 4 hours; to get the 'early return' discount! -
Well, I was in a similar situation last year when I got my car.. No place to put it to work on it aside from 'God's garage' and not much money to play with evry month.. But it is totaly 'do-able' man.. I've only got about $3500 into my Z now (only been 14 months since I got it!) It looks good, and runs and drives.. needs some more 'stuff' but all will come together, in good time. If you can swing it, pick up one of those portable garages and find a back yard somewhere (friend/relative/ect) to stick it in. Mine cost about $300, but it's still working good for me! I worked in it through the whole winter (a little cold, but stick a propane/kerosene heater in there, and it's not bad.. plus it acts like a green house and the sun heats it up pretty good!) I didnt pull the engine, but I had the whole car apart otherwise.. doors off, up on blocks, basicaly gutted.. I welded it all up, did the whole body job, ect in there! Through the worst of the winter (jan-feb.. wow.. too cooooold) I just acumulated parts when I could afford them, and sucked up all the knowlege I could from here, other sites online and ppl I know. Really, parts of it depends on how 'bad' your Z really is.. does it run and drive? Is is rotten to the core? And also, can you do the work it needs on your own? I say go for it man, but try to have some sort of a plan to stick (roughly) to and you will get this progect done. I know what its like to have people sayng its a bad idea, and it'll never get done, bla bla bla... meh. .. Do It! Prove them wrong! I did.
-
Really.. Hmm.. Well, I stand corected then! Last time I had a rear diff problem that I worked on, it was a chev 10 bolt.. a bit cheaper for parts!
-
Dude.. nice Bimmer! Did you sell it, or do ya still have it? I'm actually considering a BMW for my next 'project'.. an old 635 maybe..
-
Yah I did that on my old 85 Rex7 (305 swap) Started cranking, and BOOM!! flames out the carb.. silly me, I try the thing again! ba BAM ba BAM out the exhast, and BOOM again through the carb! It actually caught fire for a second this time, so I stoped cranking it. Took 4 guys, 2 hours, and a few beer's to finally check out the timing/dizzy. Man I felt stooopid! But it was ok, cause after fixing it, it fired right up and I went for one hell of a 'maiden voyage' heh heh.. blck marks out the driveway and up the road!
-
Heh.. those actually look good on that 300! I really dont like the new Celica.. mostly for those headlights.. but yah.. cool on a Z32!
-
Well, it's hard to tell here what exactly the 'bizarre' noises are.. Mine makes a 'wirrring' sound when I get off the throttle and let the drivetrain slow the car, and makes a diffrent 'eeeeeeeee..' sound on acceleration. I put both of these up to and old rear end that is probly very worn, and has old/low fluid. I have a leak or 3.. .. and all the u-joints are making a bit of noise. As for khashabi1's coment, I still don't agree with the 'just replacing it cause it'd be cheaper' thing.. Cheaper than what? Sourcing out/purchasing a rear dif that has the same ratio's, and getting one you would trust to be better? And while your at it, are you gona just re-use the old u-joints out back? Plus all the nuts/bolts to fight with and probly replace? Dont forget a diff mount too.. and fresh fluid for this replacement diff.. (you dont wana slap in a used diff with out craking it and checking it out/replacing fluid do you?!?) I would think with new bearings/seals and the addition of good fluid, it could be saved and the noise may dissapear... and IMHO this would be cheaper.. and a better place to start either way.. Just my $.02
-
Awsome dude! Dead Milkmen! Yah!!!
-
Ahh.. I don't know about that.. It might be something not even IN the diff (U joint, driveshaft, transmision..) And to be honest, my 280z does that too (as have ALL my previous Z cars, and a 200sx I had.. all with varying amounds of the 'noise') I would say if it ONLY happens in 2nd gear, it might be a syncro/bearing going in your tranny.. For starters, I'd change the fluid in the trans and diff, and check all your driveshafts/u-joints out...

I Must Be Getting Old And Cranky!!!!!!!!
datsunlover replied to COZY Z COLE's topic in Non Tech Board
Me fail Inglish? Thats unposible! Yah, I get bothered by this stuf sometimes.. but what really gets me is the lack of punctuation. Are you asking a question! Or making a statement. I'll have to take a pic of this piblic washroom here.. the grafiti (sp??) on the side says "NO QWERS" (directed at the gay comunity.. obviously by homophobic drop outs! ) I have to say though, this board is one of the best I have run across on the net.. very few "garbage" postings, and quite mature people.. I am with Mat73GNZ too; I type the way I talk.. or at least try to! -
Man oh man! I'd be afraid of the next car coming around though! Sure he's got his legs there.. but they might get run over in another 5 seconds!

rear swaybar mounting?
datsunlover replied to zero's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! That's the same bar I had on my 280! Dude.. if your car is a 280z, get that thing off of there!!! Trust me, it will do damage! I was going to mount it like that, but decided it would be better OVER the drive shafts. No dice. Like I said, it just doesnt work on a 280. If it's a 240, it should work with small endlinks (2" maybe?).. but it doesnt look like there's enough clearance there so I'm assuming its a 280 you have.. -
rear swaybar mounting?
datsunlover replied to zero's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Hmm.. is it a stock looking bar? Or has some one else (previous owners... grrrr) put this on? I did a stupid thing a few weeks ago and BAM! That drive shaft boot is fubar! Note; 240Z rear bars do NOT work on 280z's! Doh... -
Porsche 993 full leather seats Will they work?
datsunlover replied to DatsunATX's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Yah, they look like the Audi seats I had.. when the buttons are on the seat, it's ussually 'self contained' and just needs power and ground put to it. But the actuall 'fit' might be an issue.. like 80LT1 said they look tall.. although, the motors in the new power seats these days arn't much bigger than a D size battery! They might be tucked up under, giving enough room to get the seat in the Z.. but you're gona need to fab up some seat rails... and with thw power seat, you have to be very acurate with the rails (both rails will have to be parallel and on the same incline/angle, as well as being in perfect line with each other.) I did CRX seats in my 280 and botched it a bit on the drivers side.. the rails arn'e exactly in the same spot and are angled wrong, so moving the seat is a PITA.. but I deal with it cause it hardly ever moves anyway.. You may have to do what I did to fit my CRX seats in; The factory seat mounts will have to be cut down and re-welded to the floor (this is where I screwd up a bit.. not even.. ) lower than stock... the drivers side is diffrent to, as there is a bulge off the trans tunnel for the exhast routing.. I say start taking some measurments dude!
