You have a PM dude. Hope I don't have to send this thing to the crusher!

Awww man.. don't give up on it dude!!! I'm with ss.. buy a whole car (Caprice or somethin) for $100 and drop in the 305tb/350TH.. sounds like you've got enough parts there to finish it otherwise..

Well, I have to say I love the site, and I am on ussually once a day. ..however, I'm starting to feel like I should make a contribution. My problem is, I'm pretty straped for $$$.. and that's the way it always is with me.. paycheque to paycheque you know? I ussually get car parts/ect through trade's/swaps as I normaly NEVER have the cash to buy new stuf.. unless I run into a deal on a car or something and can flip it, or make some $$ off parts. So I thought about this 280zx 2+2 I have.. I got it for a $250 tow bill, and made $150 off two rims... I'm gona give the front calipers to a member here, and keep the diff/half shafts for myself. (I figure $100 is a darn good price for diff and half shafts!) Other than that, it's all useless to me, as I drive a 75 280z (that will be getting a V8 hopefully this winter.. if a deal works out with a friend) but I hate to scrap this zx out.. it's all there..(floors rotted/gone) good glass, p/doors, interior, motor/trans, ect. I took the seats, and will get to the rear end this week.. other than that... there's still plenty of good stuf. ANYway.. I was thinking I could make this car some sort of 'donation' to the site? Anything any member wants/needs, they can have for free... They just have to work out pickup/shipping. I know there are quite a few guys here with zx's so... yah.. hows this sound? Ps; I hope this is ok Mods. I posted in the site support the other day, but go no responces...

Well, I got my doors blown off by a s/c VW corrado last week, and decided I need a V8 in the Z. Been looking around for a 302.. Im wary of buying used motors from people (got burned TWICE in one year...) BUT a good friend has just offered me what seems to be a good deal; Late 80's sb 351W and 3 speed auto (C4 I thnk.. dono what the stall converter is though 22-2400 mabey? hmm..) out of a POLICE interceptor (crown vic) AND it has FI! (throttle body) It also comes with a Hurst ratchet shifter w/reverse lockout. He told me $450 for the whole package. I've known this guy for probly 10 years, and don't think he'd screw me intentionally on it.. Sooo.... as for the 'package' in question (assuming it's in good working order..) does this sound like a deal? Or should I wait for something else to pop up?
-
Heck.. I'd tell them to give me my $$$ back and I'll buy rims elsewhere!! That sucks man. Hope it works out.
-
That sucks man.. but be wary of buying a 'winter beater'!!!! Mine has snowballed on me, and is getting more expencive than I like.. 89 4X4 Pathy; $600. Exhast/brakes/body work; $200 so far. Needs another $200 or so for a safety. (BARELY passe the e-test; god love muffler cement!! ) Not that it's a LOT of $$$.. but I havn't done ANYTHING to my Z, and barely even drove it the last two weeks!! I keep droping cash on this stinking 'beater' and think 'damn.. there goes some money I could have spent on the Z...' Good luck with the Z man! And you better get that last ride in soon.. feels like ol' man a$$hole.. *ahem* I mean, WINTER is comming already...

Front Suspension Toe Out ?
datsunlover replied to 260DET's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Yah, I drive mainly on the street and from some rough measurments, my car is toe'd out a few degrees. It's AWEFULL!! Darts evrywhere, and gets really hairy above 90mph. Really, imo a street car should have a bit of toe in... Seeing as the purpose of toe in is to have the front tires get 'pulled' back to ALMOST zero toe once there is resistance from the car moving forward. I'm tearing my car down soon, so I'm just dealing with it for now (not driving much out of town) ...next year I'm hoping to have all new susp. and stearing componants anyway, and will get an alignment to set the toe in. -
Well, I got two 89 pathys 2 weeks ago.. was gona buy a 3d to get all the parts together to make one.. my boss bought the 3d one out from under me, but then bought MY parts truck.. so I had to deal with it and just go with what I had.. So after a week of welding the floor back in and the fenders back on, and then ANOTHER week fighting with exhast/computer issues, it's drivable.. and it passed an emision test!! Barely, but it passed! I picked up the front brakes yesterday (grinding REALY bad.. ) gona put them on tomorrow, and just have to change the windsheild for a safety check.. All told, I'm in it about $800. (well, I owe a few people some money now.. ) Oh yah.. a friend GAVE me some old mud tires tonite; two are worn pretty good in the center tread (over inflated), but the other's are ok. 32'X11.5" heh heh.. Gona be a big ugly bush beast! And when the snow flys, I'll slap on the Blizak winter tires it came with! I've never said it before.. but I'm actually WAITING for winter! Besides.. the sooner it gets here, the sooner I can work/play on the Z again!

Hey Guys What The Heck Is This & How Does It Work..Pics
datsunlover replied to slownrusty's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
That's what I was thinking.. just hook up like a dozen of them in series to a 12V batery, and an electric motor and you could blast down the 1/4 in a zero emision vehicle!! On sale for only 69.99! By a bunch! -
IMO, don't worry about those stock wires, just run new from the battry + and find a screw/bolt under there somewhere for a ground. It's really simple to run a wire throught the firewall. No need to remove the dash. As for an 'acc' wire, you need to find a wire thats hot with the key turned on.. (maybe jump something off the fuse panel?) ..or just run it compleatly separate and remember to turn off the stereo whenever you turn off the car. Hope this helps.
-
I dont think it really maters.. but personally, I'd gut the interior first, and keep that all together somewhere.. Pull the glass/lights/anything bolted to the body, then the engine/trans, then the suspension/diff..
-
Hmm.. L20e.. 4 cylinder then? I would guess no.. I tried running an AFM from a 4 cyl in my 280z (when I was still trying to make it run with the stock *yuch* FI) and it doesnt work properly. Just reved up and down. I assume a 6 cyl is gona need more air and what not, so a 4 cyl AFM would be sending the wrong signal to the ecu, causing it to become.. confused. I'm not saying for sure though..

Silly but.. replacing tach bulb?
datsunlover replied to a topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
Well you see.. they are a very 'smallish' people.. tiny little hands and arms.. must be double jointed too.. -
Funny.. I found lots of help.. going the other way! Dumped my FI in favor of SU's. Still got the stock FI intake/harness/injectors/ect.. good starting point to rig a megasquirt onto.. what it?

Cross drilled rotors can't be turned?
datsunlover replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I would say it's posible, no doubt about it.. but as for cost, it'd probly be cheaper to buy new x-drilled rotors. Turning regular rotors is quick. x-drilled rotors would have to be turned a bit slower (I think..) and because of the holes, the turning would be VERY hard on a cutter.. I dont think it would get 'stuck' but if the guy tried to take too much of a cut, it'd break the tip off. Those carbide tips arn't cheep (ask me how I know.. ) Then afterwards you'd have to re-chamfer all the holes.. AND now it's a thiner rotor which will warp faster.. sure you can turn them AGAIN.. but it's just another round of time/matirials/money.. -
300zx 5 bolt hubs same as 280/300c????
datsunlover replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Hmm.. Id say try one and find out! I don't know what a '300c' is though.. would that be the maxima 'here'? -
I'm gona *guess* that it is an AFM issue guys.. Have you tried pulling the black cover off and adding a bit of tension to the spring in there? Reasoning; at idle, the flap in the AFM is bareley open.. as you step into it, it draws air in but posibly opens the flap TOO much at first (due to the lack of spring tension) causing the ecu to become confused and dump a wee bit too much fuel for a second? it would bog, drop the flap back a bit, and as the revs pick up, it 'catches' itself and it runs properly...

Silly but.. replacing tach bulb?
datsunlover replied to a topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
IIRC it's a 'twist then pull' thing/socket (that the bulb clips into) that holds in the back of the guages. Real PITA to change those things. Hence the reason I have no light's on the spedo, and only after 3000 on the tach.. -
My Car Won't start
datsunlover replied to savageskaterkid's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
Dude, it's your lucky day. I think I can help you out. I have an 81 280zx Im trying to part out.. don't know where you are located, but if you pay for shipping, I'll sell them to ya DIRT cheep.. Heck I'd be happy to just get rid of the whole car for $100 to someone who could use it. Looks like I have to move it soon, and aside from the rear diff/drive shafts, none of it is any good for me (got a 75 280z Im gona V8 this winter) but I'd HATE to scrap it out.. it's still pretty good aside from the rotten floors. sad sad sad... PM me to let me know if you wana work something out. -

HELP! Where is the ALT Fuse in my 240z??
datsunlover replied to Hugh's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
Wouldn't that be one of the fuseable links? There's a little box on the passenger side in the engine bay.. around the wheel well area with two fuseable links in it (look like big thick wires, just looped.. spade conectors on the ends) Maybe one's fried? Thats all I can think of for the alternator.. I cant see it being one of the little fuses in the cabin.. (passenger side foot well area) Possibly the alternator is just toast.. you could pull it off and get it teseted.. anyone else? -

I have to say.. overall, thats awsome.. but I don't like the window posts/trim on the door.. too square compared to the rest of the body.. just doesnt look right to me.. -
Man oh man.. I got the bug again last night...
datsunlover replied to datsunlover's topic in Non Tech Board
Yah.. I think it must be done... I guess I'll start 'browsing' the V8 ford forums for the next few weeks/months. My Mustang friend is gona be soooo happy.. And as for 'looking back' I probly will.. just to see how BAD I'm beating the guy I just raced.. heh heh.. and to watch out for those flashing red lights on white cars.. -
Man oh man.. I got the bug again last night...
datsunlover replied to datsunlover's topic in Non Tech Board
Well to add insult to injury, I just got spanked on tonite by a 93-94 VW Corrado. Freakin 1.8L s/c got me EASILY!!! TWICE!!!! The Z turbo is a cool thought.. but where do I find one?!? (in my area, it's hard to even find a late model 300zx anymore!!) And I have a suspision that the turbo motor would NOT be cheep (for me) to fix/build/repair.. as it's what.. 25 year old tech now? Not bashing on you turbo guys, just looking at it from the 'bang for the buck' or 'no replacement for displacement' point of view. Funny the 'V8DATS' sugests the turbo option.. Part of the reason(s) I was thinking 302 is 1;availibility (ie.. they're everywhere!) 2; LOTS of parts out there, tried and tested, and CHEEP. 3;Even bone stock, that 302 is gona make a Z FLY. Like I said, I need to redo the suspension and brakes anyway (those solid disc's SUCK arse...and the springs/struts are shot) and was thinking aftermarket something.. so really, I'd just need to get my weight figured out, and buy springs/struts acordingly (to suport the V8/trans) As for the cooling, I remember my buddys 87 stang only having a tiny looking 1 or 2 core rad.. Wouldn't a good condition Z rad be up to it? (If not, I'm taking it into consideration anyway...got a few options) I know about the bug too.. it got me good a few years back when I jamed a 305 in an 85 RX7.. snowballed a bit.. but damn the thing went like hell in the end!! Never had any problems smoking those pesky 4 bangers either.....
