I've been looking forward to this supercharged LQ4 powerplant for my '75 Widebody, but after adding up the numbers, my "budget build" is costing at least $10k. I'll be eliminating a/c and p/s - tell me if my numbers look about right: LQ4 $1,500.00 Engine Mounts $300.00 Tranny Mount $135.00 Driveshaft $235.00 Headers $330.00 L92 Heads $910.00 Cam $450.00 Intake $50.00 Electronics $350.00 Oil pan $200.00 Fuel Pump $175.00 Fuel Rails $200.00 Injectors $200.00 Transmission $1,500.00 Z06 Clutch/Fly $750.00 Exhaust $150.00 Radiator $220.00 I'm sure there's more, but these seemed like the main things off the top of my head. This doesn't include the whipple, which I picked up used for $1750. The guy I bought it from is running the smallest pulley that Whipple would sell him, and can only build 6.5psi on his stock 6.0 with it, so I would have to have a custom pulley made (even though I'm afraid of the stress levels it might put on the whipple) He also said he was seeing intake temps around 212*, which suprised me because one of their selling points is low intake temps...? I wish I would've researched this BEFORE I bought the whipple :rolls eyes: In short - do these numbers look correct? Any extras items I have on the list that I don't need? I know the prices will vary, but I think should be close. The car currently has a running sbc/4spd muncie - I have a big shot kit in the garage I may just install instead, but the thought of a 700+ whp setup in that little car makes me smile every time - it's the price tag that kills me. Plus, I don't like having to refill my horsepower. Opinions? Carb'd blow-through LQ4?

Well, I finally have a contribution to this thread. I'm stripping my '83 down to get ready for paint, and after I removed the front bumper I said what the hell and threw the air dam on there. As you can see it's urethane and has a nice bow in it. I'll work with it later. You can't see it is bad from up higher, though. Finally, a side shot: I will be installing hp struts and springs, so the car will sit lower (it kills me every time I see it like that). Although I most likely won't be keeping it bumperless, I think it looks pretty aggressive from the front - especially after I install the smoked headlight covers.

My '82 280zx has a 355/t56, coilovers and illuminas, st swaybars, brembo rotors/brakes, and I have a brand new big shot kit that's looking pretty tempting. I'd like to think mine isn't close to stock.

Either you don't drive the Z any more, or you picked up a nail in the left rear tire Awesome, awesome, awesome detail on that bird. I could work on something like that my entire life and it wouldn't come out half as good. You have true skills!

I didn't act fast enough - it just sold CRAAAAAAAAAAPPP!!!:banghead: -
Oh yeah, I think he was the one that was suggesting to install little fans in the engine bay to fix an overheating issue, or something like that. I think he got offended when people didn't take his advice. This was a while back, but I'm pretty sure that's the same guy. He's been trying to sell that car for a LOOOOOOONG time now. I always see it on craigslist.

I do have a buddy that works at a dyno shop - even though it won't be free time, I can get it a discounted rate. But, I also have an LM-1 Wideband, so I'd like to utilize that as much as possible. I don't want to just throw my money away at this one - I'm trying to plan everything carefully to keep it under a certain amount. If it goes over, it shouldn't go over by much. I'm also hoping that a 4spd muncie will be able to handle the torque. It's an M21, IIRC. I sent this guy an e-mail, and hopefully I'll be able to check out the engine sometime this week. I'm going to give Whipple a call and see what I can do about a twin-screw setup for this one. They're supposed to be more efficient with maintaining decent engine temps as well. -

Super Chevy did a write up on a 177 mated with a 355 sbc. They were able to barely tap 600hp on 10.3 psi, but they had to run 100 octane plus bump up the timing a bit. I believe this was on a 8.5:1 CR as well. http://www.superchevy.com/technical/engines_drivetrain/completebuilds_testing/0307sc_dm10_copy/index.html Sounds like the 177 may require more maintenance? -

Thanks for the response jnj. I'm thinking maybe I could sell the 177 and buy a twin-screw. I'm going to look up some more info on the 177 blower, but that doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. BTW, excuse my ignorance, but how do I benefit from getting the crank cut for a key 180* from the stock one? -
I have a widebody that I've been wanting to do a forced-induction v8 swap on. I have an HX40 Holset turbo laying around, but decided I wanted a supercharger. I've been looking at twin-screw setups, since they're the most efficient, but it won't be cheap. At first I wanted to do an LSx swap with a Kenne Belle, but after pricing everything I'm looking at over $10K. Then I started thinking about a whipple twin screw on a GEN I sbc (built 383 most likely) and was able to build one out for about $8K. That seemed to work out the best for me, but then I came across an ad on craigslist that has this listed for $4300: "Heres your chance to own a 350 sbc, motor, with a weiand 177 polished blower motor, with world heads,je Blower pistions, wisco total seal rings,"H" beam rods,Steel crank,BALANCED!,fluid damper,True roller chain, comp cam stage 2 blower cam, stan steel roller rockers, molly push rods,The works!!!it cost over $6500.00 for the bottom end!!!!The blower was $2900.00 out of JEGS!!! the motor is FRESH NEVER BEEN FIRED UP!!look at the pics. Oh yea its also STUDDED!!!! its a one piece rear main seal also.the only thing you need is a DISTRIBUTOR, car and a transmission!!! holley 750 dp is also included.any ????? Email me!! and local pick up only.I'll drive 30 min to a hour to meet ya and thats it!!! GREAT MOTOR TO GO AND PLAY!!Need to sell!!The msd distributor is NOT INCLUDED!!!!!Est horse power is 450,with 6 psi of boost! " I've always been too skeptical to buy a fresh engine that's never ran before. How do I know this is a stout, well-built engine, or something just slapped together? (If he has all of these high-dollar parts on it, I doubt it's slapped together, though) This seems like a killer deal for anyone looking at this kind of setup. I've never seen too many blower questions here on HybridZ - I searched the archives but didn't really find the answers. What kind of maintenance is required on a weiand blower such as that, and what is their average lifespan before rebuild? Lastly, I was wanting a supercharged v8 that could lay down 600rwhp - would I be able to produce enough boost out of this blower to do so, or would it put too much strain on it and kill the lifespan? I was thinking the blower would need to put out at least 15psi to reach my goal. I factor approx. 15hp per pound of boost, but I don't know how the parasitic loss affects that number. Thanks guys - I did search first!

It's still working on break -
Yup, I think that's it. It had a front airdam as well.

Funny, I met "Austin 240z" here in Austin, and then as I left I pulled up next to a faded light yellow 240z. This happened while I was looking for parts on my '75 280z. Lots of Z activity going on here...
-
Kinda both - I'm 6'4"/5"ish 175 lbs. and she's 5'4" and almost 110 lbs. (108, I think). Plus, the suit was enormous on me. I appreciate the offer on the vintage 30s thing...might have to take you up on it.
-
Why does that suit look familiar? Oh yeah... But, I didn't have a Thompson M1 or equivalent to carry around with me, so I had my girlfriend compromise
-
You remind me more of that guy that threw Bruce Willis a pool ball instead of the gun...can't think of his name.
-
He lives just a few miles away from me, so I've met him personally and done a lot of business with him. No problems yet...

How much for shipping?

She looks amazing, Rick! I'm going to have to make another trip to Florida just to check her out in person. Wow!

Yup, a camaro with stock suspension and manual tranny (what we were scheduled to race) crashed into the wall making a pass at the strip a few days prior to the race.

"The unidentified driver is in stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital, but facing a number of charges, including DUI, reckless driving and criminal damage to property." I'm anticipating the release of this one: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0758730/

durableswedish - read this for differential info: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=114798 Acutally, I used the auto crossmember when installing the T5. I didn't hear anything about additional stress to the motor mounts - I really didn't have any issues putting everything together (well, between the T5 and L28et). I guess I'll find out if I wasn't supposed to use that crossmember
