  1. You must've snuck right out from under my radar. Geez, I can't believe I could've bought that! Lucky!
  2. Yeah aziza, I'm sure you get tire of hearing this, but good lord your car is soooo clean! I never cared too much for red on a Z, but yours is drop-dead sexy!
  3. Ahh, so the girlfriend/wife thread explains why everybody's seeing the intimate dating ads.
  4. Jaguar 3.9 V8? Found in Jags, Lincoln LS, and the new Thunderbird. It's very rev happy, but I don't know how they would sound with an aftermarket exhaust, as everyone I've worked on was factory. Finding a manual tranny may be a problem if you don't want the tiptronic, manumatic, whatever they call it.
  5. 183/anderson mill area I see, my misunderstanding. I suppose I can say that I feel your pain.
  6. I didn't mean to offend you by that. I've met several great people from LA. One of my Zs was purchased from a Louisianer, and that dude was by far one of the most generous persons I've met. Crime is everywhere - it wasn't my intention to give you guys a bad rap. You can call me a redneck if it makes you feel any better.
  7. Got a double-dip this morning. Same damn thing, except this time I didn't have the cd face on the player. When I first installed this cd player, I removed the face everytime and took it into my apartment, but every morning, as soon as I would hop in the truck, I would realize that I forgot the face in the apartment. So, I eventually just started putting the face behind my seat. Well, it held out a bit longer, but last night the thief found it behind the seat and ripped the deck out, too. This crap is getting old...I'm tired of giving them my cd decks.
  8. Saw the ad on Craigslist friday, checked it out that night, bought it the next day: I've been wanting one for a couple of years now, and I finally saw what I thought was a good deal and bought it. She's an '02 R6 with approx. 17,000 miles, all service records, and came with some extras. We'll see how long I can stay out of the obituaries.
  9. Wow, this is great, and this is just a taste of the pie! Thanks again for doing this! Did you have enough time to test the g-nose by any chance?
  10. Yup, they are for now anyways. They have 4 shows scheduled this year - 3 in Cali and 1 in New York. It should be awesome!
  11. Looks like I'm the only metal head in here. The mp3 disc usually played in my v8 280zx consists mostly of: Disarmonia Mundi, Still Remains, Unearth, Chimaira, Diecast, Threat Signal, Bury Your Dead, Bleed the Sky, Darkest Hour, It Dies Today, Soilwork, In Flames, etc. Rage Against the Machine, Soulfly, and White Zombie usually do a pretty good job of bringing out the speedier side of me. BTW, I'll be seeing Rage in California this summer - can't freaking wait!!
  12. Assuming the guts are swapped out, these should be compatible with all s30 models, correct? Nonetheless, I'm interested...
  13. I've really enjoyed my Tec2 - it comes with all the features you want, and can be bought under $1000 on eBay. The only thing is that it's no longer in production (Tec3 now) so you'd have to find it used somewhere - but it's a great standalone. In your situation, I would second the Megasquirt n Spark. I was introduced to it a year ago on a different Z, and found it was pretty easy to tune, and the cost speaks for itself.
  14. I've been very, very interested in that swap, but I think I'm going to supercharge an LSx due to clearance issues. I've seen one guy in the ford forum that posted pictures of a 32v ford 4.6, but I believe it was out of a Lincoln. I've worked on the Cobra motors, and they are WIDE...I've been waiting for one of our heavy-line techs to remove one from a car so I can take some measurements... Those DOHC 4.6s sound soooooooo much better than the chevys, IMO. Examine exhibit A: http://videos.streetfire.net/hottestvideos/2/wm/bbbb4104-0c33-450e-9bb5-982901426eb2.htm
  15. Great news! After you rebuild the carbs, INSTALL A/MULTIPLE KILLSWITCH(ES)
  16. I've used orbit before. It's a free download - just hover the mouse over the video and a little icon pops up to allow you to download it. You can also try youtubex.com - Just go there, enter the youtube address, and it will provide a link to download the video for you.
  17. I remember I did that last time, but I didn't see any smoke when I ran it. I also didn't factor in the oil level at the time, so it could've been lower. I think I'll pop the hoses off, top off the oil level, and make a few more runs. I'll report back later this week when the weather improves.
  18. Well, I know if oil burning is going on inside the cylinders, then it comes out of the exhaust blue, but I've had issues with leaky engines before where the oil would drip onto the exhaust and would burn white smoke. This is why I was thinking maybe the crankcase gases/blowby (not much) are burning onto the insides of the exhaust pipe and causing the smoke. It's kind of vague, but now that you mention it, I think the smoke is most prevalent after I've topped off the oil level. I just installed a new 5.5 qt. pan a couple of months ago, and I usually add an extra .25 quarts for the rest of the system - I don't think that would be overfilling it...? It still has a couple of small leaks, so every couple of months I generally have to add 1/2 a quart or so - I don't think it's burning any inside the cylinders. I just made a couple of WOT runs last night without seeing any smoke. But I'm sure it will happen again later down the road. BTW, I thought rich conditions caused black smoke (which I've seen several times), and white smoke was from moisture/condensation, or headgasket leak. Could you clarify this for me?

  20. I did the same thing as Mike kZ and used the Centerforce flywheel. It is pricey, though, and if I had to do it again I would probably use the Weir Bellhousing (more and cheaper clutch/flywheel options), but the Centerforce part is 700107. *edit* just saw this thread is dated back a ways...sorry
  21. http://www.ground-control-store.com/products/description.php/II=659/CA=97 It's listed for a 510, but says it also fits the 280zx. It lists a 15mm Nissan, 15mm Japanese, or 5/8. I assumed this was for the size of the monoball, so I measured the threaded section with my digital caliper. I can't remember the exact measurement, but it was between 15mm and 5/8". I guess I'd be better off just calling them and telling them what strut I have.
  22. How about for the 280zx? I was going to order theirs, but I don't know the difference between a 15mm Nissan and 15mm Japanese. Do you? Also, when I measured the thread, I believe it came out to right in between 15mm and 5/8, so it's safe to assume to go with the larger of the two, correct?
  23. When I upgraded the exhaust, I also installed a Moroso crankcase evacuation setup. At first, I wasn't running any baffles on the valve covers because I have 1.6 roller rockers and was afraid of clearance issues. But after the first time I hit WOT (or far enough to open the secondaries)and saw nothing but white smoke in the rear, I decided to install them. While the baffles didn't have any clearance issues after all, I still had the smoking problem. It's intermittent, though. Most of the time I see it at WOT, but sometimes I don't. Since this only started happening after the crankcase evacuation setup was installed, I'm assuming the problem lies within it. I can't see how any oil is being sucked through the baffles, but should I install some sort of oil separator between the breather and the check valve? It's been a while since I've looked into this, but I pulled the hoses off the breathers and IIRC, didn't see any oil residue I think jnj is running this type of setup - have you had any issues, or anyone else for that matter? It's really embarassing when it happens. I mean, I literally can barely see the car behind me.
  24. I've tried searching the forum as much as possible before posting this, but I'm about to drop $1500 and wheels and tires, so I'd like to see if I'm overlooking something. Plus, a lot of the posts result in people not really knowing for sure because every setup is different, so here's mine: Setup - 1975 280z widebody project. I'm about to order MM coilovers, Tokico Illuminas, camber plates, rear disc conversion, 300zx front brake/rotor setup (5lug) and some other chassis mods. I currently have a 4 to 5 lug adapter (5x4.5), which also acts as a 1" spacer. I'd like to fit some 315/35/17s in the rear with cobra 10.5" wheels. I'm pretty sure the fronts will be 275/40/17 mounted on a 9" rim, and I don't think I should have any rubbing issues, although if I do, I can always get a tire with a smaller cross section. With the wheels that I'm looking at, the front backspacing is 6.1", and the rear is 6.9". I work at a Ford dealership, and we had a 17x9.5" rim in stock with approx. 6.3" backspacing (I think, I lost that measurement). I mounted a 275/40/17 tire on it, bolted it to the Z, and took some measurements. Although I will be installing coilovers, I figured I'd measure the shortest distance from the tire to the spring perch. That was .425". On the other side, the shortest distance from the tire to the flare lip was around 43-44mm (1.7"). I grabbed two techs and had them push down as far as they could on the rear of the Z. She doesn't squat very much, so the tires never came too close to hitting the flares, although I'll need to do this again with the 315s. Any better suggestions on how to measure this? Pics (camera phone, sorry): Tire to perch (.425") Larger view Tire to flare (43-44mm / 1.7") Rear shot of the flare/wheel It looks like the flares should give me enough room for 315s Side rear shot If you need any other info, let me know and I'll do my best to provide it. Summary: Will 315/35/17s fit in the rear with my setup? Rear b/s is 6.9", but I'll be using a 1" spacer with coilovers. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, don't hesitate. Thanks!
