Another forum (don't remember which one...it was a while back) had that video and they concluded it was from a blowout -- I'm not sure what kind of evidence they had to support their claim, though. I think stony's conclusion is better.

I live about 2 hours away from you, but I do have an F54 in the garage. Let me know...

I just installed a different video card in my computer, and the first picture that I looked at with it was that blue sparkly car -- scared me at first, I was thinking the card was messed up

Looks great for a driveway job, Tim! Looks like you and your neighbor across the street have the same taste in trucks.

You're right, that is addicting. After 15 tries I could only manage a .504

That's a big reason why I'm not in a big hurry to get a real paint job on my zx -- I mean yeah, it doesn't look too appealing with a primer job, but it would be pointless for somebody to key it, and if some jackass hits my door / body panel, I can hit his 3 times worse, and then go home and fix the damage cheaply and quickly Sorry to hear about it the keying. I hate it when people are so damn disrespectful like that. Even though I think those Xb's (I think that's the right model) are really hideous, it's still your property and not theirs. But, lucky you, you went to school to learn how to do bodywork, so it shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg to repair.

Exactly when do you need it buy? I'm in Austin right now, but the parts are in Victoria. I have an R200 (I think it's a 3.54:1 ratio, but could be the 3.9 -- I'll have to check) and also an 3.7:1 LSD from a 300zx -- both can come with the half shafts if you need them.

Honestly, it feels like it starts in the rear and progresses to the front. First it's a butt vibration (feels like you're driving over a cattle guard) and ends up in the steering wheel. But, it could just be my mind playing tricks on me -- I'm thinking the vibration in the rear may just be exaggerating the one that I already have in the front, because one (or both) of my front tires are out-of-round. I know this because I have a bad vibration in the steering wheel at 45 mph, and then at 70 mph. I've had it for a while now, though -- long before this started happening. I was going to re-index and rebalance the front wheels when I had the car on the lift yesterday, but I couldn't find my lug nut key for the two locking lug nuts I have in the front, so I wasn't able to remove them from the car. Hopefully after I take care of the front tires, I may have some luck into trying to pinpoint the problem a bit better.

I'm the one that balanced them (at work), and yes, I did a dynamic balance. I don't have a lip on the outside, so I used clip-on weights on the inner lip and sticky weights on the inner rim right next to the spoke. I'll check out the driveshaft and u-joints when I put her back up on the lift. The only thing is that I've felt driveshaft and u-joint vibrations before, and they weren't like this, but nevertheless, I can't rule them out just because I haven't seen them do it before. It's just so weird how the vibration comes and goes every 2 seconds. I'm always dealing with vibration problems at ford (especially with the new F-150s) and this one's new to me.

I too, suspected a bent wheel, but I measured the rim runout at work and it passed, so I assume it's not a problem (unless the machine needs to be recalibrated). I should've checked the wheel bearings while I had it up in the air today, but then again, I was assuming the new tires would fix the problem. I can't think of anything that I may have damaged during the blowout, other than the rim. It wasn't a wild, out-of-control blowout -- I didn't even know I had one until I pulled over to see what why I was suddenly having so much resistance. The sidewalls on the old tires were pretty damn stiff, so despite not being inflated, it still did a fairly decent job of keeping the rim off of the ground. Thanks so far for the replies!

About a week ago I had a blowout in my zx. Because I have Ross C's 5-lug conversion on it, I don't have a matching spare. So, call a friend over to pick me up and take me to discount tire so I can have them change out my tire. They were closed, so I went to work and tried to find some used tire to fit - no dice. My last resort was Wal-Mart. They had a tire that would fit, but was slightly larger. Fine, I thought, as long as it will get me home. BTW -- all 4 tire sizes are 245/40/17 and they were replacing the blown-out tire with a 245/45/17. Well, when I was driving back home with it, I noticed it had a rhythmic vibration, like it would happen every 2 seconds. I figured it was something to do with the harmonics of the two different-sized tires spinning, so I figured I wouldn't worry about it until I get the tire sizes matching. Today, I mounted two brand new BFG T/A G-force 255/40/17 tires in the back. BOTH the same size, BOTH identical tires, BOTH well-balanced and only showing 11-13 lbs. of road force, and it STILL has the vibration. It's tolerable at 55, annoying at 65, and downright scary at 75. My CD player will skip if I drive at 75 -- it shakes the living piss out of it. I'm used to working with vibration at work all the time, but I've never messed with one that only vibrated every 2 seconds. I'm hoping some of you can help direct me where or what to check out that would cause the problem, because it's really getting scary to drive it. The only thing a search pulled up was that the tranny mounts or u-joints could possibly do this, but considering this only happened after the blowout, I doubt it's the problem. Thanks

ehh...it's been done: I would, however, like to paint it flat black and see how well it would deter police radar.

If it's the '03, the earlier ones have the 7.3L PS and the later ones have the 6.0L PS. It sounds like you got a 6.0L, which are fun until they break. Even though the 7.3s have been produced (well, used in the heavy-duty series') at least a good ten years longer than the 6.0s, I see at least a good 12 times the amount of 6.0s come in the shop than 7.3s. Hope you got a good one (if that's what it is)

I, too, had a CF Dual Friction Clutch for my T-56, which I never had any problems with, except for a lot of clutch chatter. I switched over to a Stage III Spec Clutch, which also works great, without the chatter, but it works too damn well. With the clutch being a 6-puck, I have to rev the engine up to about 2,000 rpms and very lightly feather it out on take-offs. It's not near as streetable as the CF Dual Friction. I haven't heard any problems with the Centerforce clutches come from hybriders, but people who've put them in F-bodies have nothing good to say about them. Anyways, good luck...

adding gear oil to the transmission through the shifter
zeeboost replied to PapaSmurf's topic in Drivetrain
2nd that -- Do not attempt to add it through the shifter. If you can't remove that filler plug, remove the reverse-light trigger switch next to it and use that to fill the tranny -- for this, you will need a tube / hose to run from the bottle to the tranny. -
Regardless of the 350z's platform, I'd still take the G35. I didn't really care for neither at first, but I've learned to accept the 350z, and learned to LOVE the G35. I've never favored the looks of a 2+2 over a coupe, but this is definately one exception to the rule. Anyways, I really don't get any recognition from other 350z drivers either. But then again, I don't even get any love from the s130 drivers around here either. So far, the only one to compliment me on my '72 was a guy in a mid-90's Mustang Cobra!

Looks great man -- I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product. Make Terry proud

This last tank I saw approx. 21 mpg -- mostly highway miles, but a couple of days I was going to be late, so I drove it pretty hard. The engine also has roughly 600 miles on it, so it's possible it could increase after a couple thousand miles when it's broken in. I haven't dyno'd her yet, but I'd guess approximately 350 rwhp coming from my 355, and the 6th gear in the T-56 sure makes highway driving nice .

I currently have a '97 2.3. That thing wouldn't be able to get out of its own way. About the only thing it's good for (and about the only reason I use it) is to haul back parts from the pick-n-pull. That said, my former roomate and best friend is the same damn reckless way when he drives his Ranger. He pisses off a lot of people on the road, mows down other people's trash cans, cats, whatever he can get possibly touch. I agree with crazy280's theory.

I wonder how much gas prices are over there...? $.05 / gallon is my educated guess

Got a compliment tonite.. in a round about way...
zeeboost replied to datsunlover's topic in Non Tech Board
Sorry, a huge side-effect of lack of common sense and never straying far from my home state has left me quite ignorant. Thank you for your time and patience Edit: BTW, my 280zx has been called a Ferrari (perhaps the because of the F-40 wing). I had a good laugh. -

Is this a canadian thing, or am I missing something?
