  1. I don't know if that balanced flywheel was even your problem in the first place (although I'm sure it didn't help). I'm having similar problems like you, but I have pre-86 350. I even have the Spec Stage III clutch to boot (actually, I think you were the one that recommended it to me ) Anyways, here's my problem. If I start the car in neutral and then try to put it in gear, it won't go in. However, if I start the car in gear with the clutch in, it will begin to surge forward and I hear some metal to metal clanking and grinding noises, but after a couple of seconds it will go away and I can drive the car like normal. However, as soon as I turn the car off, I'll have to do it all over again. IT'S FREAKIN FRUSTRATING!!! Usually right after that happens and when I drive in 1st gear, it will shake horribly, like you're describing. But as soon as shift out of it, it will feel normal. I'm going to replace the slave cylinder within the next hour with the factory T-56 slave from GM (I was using an O'Reilly slave before, so I'm just ruling out a faulty slave) It's weird, because I never had this problem before with the Centerforce dual friction clutch, but then when I switched over to the Spec Stage III, after about a thousand miles (mostly highway, and VERY light driving) it started doing this. I just got in the car one day, after it had been sitting for about a week, and it did this. I talked to the transmission mechanic at work, and he's never heard of any problem like that. He told me I was doing the right thing by ruling out hydraulics. I'm wondering if this could be a problem with the clutch. I've yet to pull the tranny back out, but it seems inevitable. Did you find anything else wrong with yours, or notice any kind of scratches or scores on any of the contact points? Looks like we'll be going at this together.
  2. "For a variety of cars with electronic fuel injection engine control, the SPINNER EXHAUST TIP has the beneficial effect to eliminate the initial hesitation of the engine under rapid acceleration. Furthermore, the exhaust gases emanating from the tailpipe will be uniformly dispersed into the atmosphere. In some instances the speed of the vehicle will be sufficient to create a negative presence at the outlet of the exhaust tailpipe to assist in the evacuation of the exhaust gases." :lmao:
  3. Lingenfelter (sp?) C5 would've torn all of them a new one
  4. Yep, they use the same setup on the Mazda6, Escape Hybrid, and similar setup on the 6.0 diesel. PITA
  5. Good thing your Z wasn't in Houston. Here's a picture of the storm damage: Seriously, though, I'm glad to hear that you, your family, and of course your Z are all okay. Good luck with everything else

Hah, I'm with Tyson. For the first few months it was "on the go" for me. :
  7. If you have some extra cash laying around, his reserve is set at $25,000.
  8. Did you do all of the work to them, or were these just unfinished projects that they took out of your hands. It looks like they're taking credit for them: Datsun: Toyota: Just curious

  10. I should have specified that the difference that I felt in acceleration with the vac. advance plugged was from a part throttle acceleration, and not WOT. Correct, at WOT, the timing should not change if the vacuum advance is connected or not. Then again, I'm still playing around with springs and weights, so my ignition system still may not be up to par.
  11. My cam has 230* duration at .050" of lift -- I'm running at 20* initial timing and it runs cooler and sooo much better than when I was running at 14* initial. ALSO Be DAMN sure that when you mash the accelerator pedal to the floor, your carburetor is opening all the way. SBC engines need those secondaries opening up as far as they can. You could also try disconnecting your vacuum advance and just plugging it up -- I know it helped my acceleration as well. I've always heard that for I high performance engine, you shouldn't run a vacuum advance on your timing. Good luck with it.
  12. The red star in the middle is where one of my Z's is located...I'm considering moving it up to Austin. May the force be with us...
  13. "Honda iVTEC 4 Cylinder Aluminum alloy block, cylinder head, sump Chain drive DOHC 4 valves per cylinder 1998cc Bore & Stroke: 86mm x 86mm Power: 220bhp @ 8200 rpm Torque: 196Nm @ 6100 rpm Cut off: 8600 rpm" It also has a 6 spd gearbox -- I never knew those were available in the U.S. Damn I want one...perhaps even more than an Exige. The major advantage of the Atom (to me) is the price.
  14. Wicked -- how much longer before you can go on the hunt for the Supra boy?
  15. As my t56 is in a zx, I can't help you out too much, but I can answer a couple of questions. -The transmission will bolt up to your engine, but if you have the older style engine (pre-'86 I think) then you will need to use a different (expensive) flywheel. I have a Centerforce SFI that weighs at least a good 30 lbs. Now, since my setup is already complete, I really haven't been keeping an eye on the market to see if anything else has come out to mate a t56 to an older style sbc, but I seem to recall hearing about a bellhousing that you can use to mate the two together. I'm using a Tilton 7/8" clutch master cylinder and a SS line running down to a T-5 slave cylinder. You will either need to drill and tap the back of the slave cylinder in order to run your line, or you can see if Ross C. is selling the adapter for it again. I talked to him a year or two ago about it, and he told me he wasn't going to be making any for a while, so you may be out of luck with that. I found the correct info to drill in tap the slave on this site, so all I can tell you is search some more Good luck
  16. What happened to your old neon? My girlfriend has an '02 r/t as a daily driver with 50K on the clock, so I'm just curious.
  17. Definately a lot of talent with Saosin and Thrice. BTW, Confused -- I will hunt you down and KILL you if you don't include me in those backstage passes next time you're in Houston...j/k ...or am I? Have you heard Chimaira's new album yet? It's pretty good, only with more solos. I'm not sure if it's better than their previous albums, but I still jam out to it daily.
  18. Oddly, the same as you: Chimaira, Bury Your Dead, It Dies Today, Trivium, Unearth, Shadows Fall, In Flames, Bleeding Through, if Hope Dies, As I lay Dying, Atreyu, etc. Seeing as how you listen to Chimaira, did you catch their concert over in Houston a little over a month ago? It was pretty damn badass! Houston seems to have a pretty decent hardcore scene; I was also able to watch Bury Your Dead, If Hope Dies, and All That Remains over there. I also went to the Ozzfest over in San Antonio last weekend, and while I think last year's line up was better, this one was still pretty good, especially with Bury Your Dead...oh yeah!
  19. Well, I'm officially living in Austin, Tx. I'm taking 13 hours this semester, and I was able to get a job at a Ford dealership a little north of Austin. Austin is a great city, except for one plague -- I-35!!! SON OF A B****!!! Traffic is the WORST on 35, always! My v8 280zx just hit 250* today in stop-n-go traffic. I now have a whine coming from the engine (sounds like it's coming from the timing chain) and somehow the timing is 5* retarded than what I set it on two days ago -- I couldn't move the distributor with my hands, so I don't think the bolt is loose. I thought that was kind of odd. I'm now on the hunt for a Taurus fan, so I can hopefully fix this damn cooling problem. The only hope that I have for it not overheating so bad is that I have an autometer gauge running off of the chevy sending unit (because the autometer unit broke and I haven't ordered a new one yet), so maybe it didn't get as hot as I thought it did, but I do know that at idle it would start to sputter (and drop down from 900 to 500 rpms) and it started to blow smoke pretty bad until I got the temps down to about 230*, according to the gauge, anyways. I was on a bridge, so I couldn't pull over and shut her off...man, I can't recall a time when I've been more frustrated. I absolutely hate I-35 with a passion, and will avoid it at all costs. Sorry, I wasn't expecting this to turn into a rant, but damn, I just needed to vent this out. Does anyone happen to know a good machinist in Austin? I think I'm going to pull the heads and have him pressure test them and check for warpage, if the compression tests don't look good. Thanks for reading...I almost want to start a website to just bitch about that god-forsaken interstate, if it hasn't already been done yet. *Sigh*
  20. I pictured you listening to Nightwish, for some reason. I'd like them a lot more without the vocals -- even no vocals I think they'd sound great, but... I think my favorite from Iced Earth has to be Dracula...damn that song rules.
  21. I'm not sure if I'd like them, but when I get on my wireless connection this weekend I'll download a few of their songs... But while we're talking music In flames ROCKS -- yes, they're that badass. As of now I'm really into: HEAVY Chimaira - just bought their new cd, which is pretty good. They have some pretty damn good breakdowns (to me) Trivium - This band is REALLY good, really young, really talented, and have a lot of potential. Unearth - a lot of talent in that band It Dies Today - See Unearth, except more talent in vocals. That guy can scream, but he also sings suprisingly well. Bury Your Dead - More of a mid/late-90s heavy metal sound, and they have some unbelievable breakdowns. NOT AS HEAVY Thrice - Not near as heavy as the above, but a lot of talent in that band -- very melodic to say the least. Saosin - Another melodic, talented band similar to thrice, but they have a distinct sound. Evergrey - They have a great sound to them, the guitarist is really good, and they do a great job mixing piano and metal, but the only thing I don't like is their vocalist sounds too 80's -- it took me a while to get used to it. I really used to be into Slipknot, but that last album tried to mix Stone Sour and Slipknot too much, and I came out pretty disappointed after I bought the album. Half of the songs on there are pretty good, but come on, Slipknot and acoustics? Aux, if you enjoy In Flames, you probably know about their rival band, Soilwork. Well, the singer of Soilwork is involved in a project band, called Disharmonia Mundi. I believe "Oceangrave" is one of my favorites by them, but I can't remember exactly how it goes at this time. They use a lot of keyboards in their music...tastefully. Sorry for the long post. As you can tell, I'm a music freak. BTW, Ozzfest is this weekend for me. HELL YEAH!
  22. That same company also has a "1974 Datson 240Z " ready to rent for $250 daily and $1100 weekly -- wish I could get that much out of mine.
  23. We've had it happen at work before. We park the customer's vehicles in a designated parking lot, and sometimes you just don't see somebody coming around the corner. Not too long ago, one of our guys was watching the dash while he was braking slowly, and he ended up nailing somebody in front of him. He pays the $500 deductable, and insurance takes care of the rest. Personally, when a little fender bender like this happens to a normal vehicle, I just say sh*t happens, but it would be a totally different story to somebody who has a collector car or someone who spent a lot of time working with the body. It does suck, though, when your part was originally metal when you brought it in, and now it will most likely have some sort of filler when you get it back.
  24. As far as I know, yes...she's un-molested.
