Do that Spitfire.... I always regretted getting rid of mine. It was a lot of fun.... and you were very much in contact with the road... but it lacked power. A KA or SR20 would be perfect in that car.... but it would need some suspension and chassis upgrades for certain.

BUMP^^ Anyone here that is either also a toyota guy, or knows of a good forum or tech source? I have been searching off an on for a couple weeks now, but I think I am spoiled by the experience here, there arent too many communities out there as advanced and free-spirited as ours.... most of the truck forums are into bolt-on performance or modding the rest of the drive-train and suspension, and most of the children of the rice arent familiar with the 3RZ. Also, I saw some posts on the 4AG forums by a "Yasin"... same Yasin as the one who posts here? tannji

How do I widen my suspension?
tannji replied to Chewievette's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I remember you posting those drawings, I like them a lot and I would be tempted to do the same style of roadster if I owned a ZX.... I think that would dramatically improve the ZX. For myself, while I would love a roadster 240 or vert, (the second car I ever owned was a 1971 Triumph Spitfire, miss it... shoulda kept it and thrown a L28 in it = ) I want to develope some skills and get metal working and glassing down, not to mention getting a complete restoration under my belt. -
Ditch Netscape, it works fine in Mozilla... = )

How do I widen my suspension?
tannji replied to Chewievette's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Cool, thanks guys... I have already had a little contact with BlueOval (Terry?) in the past about some of his design.... and when I get to the point where the rest of the car is ready, I will indeed be in touch! I am getting ready to throw the car in a friends garage to begin disassembly and basic resto, so you know where I am in the long process, basically at the beginning. It is already hybrid, but I am yanking out the current TPI 350.... and was all set to go LS1.... but now some of the other options have waylayed me. believe it or not, I am strongly considering a turbo 4-banger as well. I like the potential of either the SR20 or the Toyota 3RZ, would like more torque like the V8, but as I plan on doing a new nose vaguely along the lines of Terry's, the extra room a 4 provides would be nice. Body-wise, I am thinking similar lines for the nose to either the BlueOval, or Chewie's red car, and vaguely similar to the red car's rear, with the larger horizontal area on top of the fenders to isolate the greenhouse a bit.... more of the exotic/supercar look. The only reservation I have is in trying to keep the Z origin apparent.... I dont want a complete kit look like the GTO or others, where you dont readily see Z in the design. I dont know if you can do both... but that is what I'll be looking at. -
How do I widen my suspension?
tannji replied to Chewievette's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
LOL, you both probably have a few years on me.... but I spent most of my childhood not going to school, and reading, because we didnt believe in TV.... (not at all a bad way to grow up, IMO) My Grandfather retired a full-Bird Colonel and had lots of WWII pics to share.... so I spent 3 or 4 years driving librarians nuts for a 30 (country) mile radius, and I used to draw and model every plane I could find. I think I get where you are coming from to a certain degree.... it was a long time before my love of old planes gave way to love of old cars. The thing that scares me is how much I like the BlueOval, and Chewie's "dream" as well..... I used to be a very good modeler, especially with balsa..... I have to put on blinders sometimes or I start envisioning things to do to my Z... and I HAVE to finish basic resto and mechanical upgrading before I can entertain those fantasies. I went through a Sci-Fi drawing stage, and coincidentally, the "wasp" body was a common theme for my space fighters. My parents thought I was nuts.... but they tolerated it, and like any good parent tried to use my interests to steer me in the right direction. Anyway.... While I try to keep myself in check I will live vicariously through you two.... I have seen very few Z cars that inspire me as much as the BlueOval, and it look like Chewie has the same affliction... = ) tannji -
hmm, must have been a Mozilla problem, got it to work in IE. I think that guy just got his beating, and apparently got his a** smoked as well.....

How do I widen my suspension?
tannji replied to Chewievette's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
LOL, now that we have BlueOval and Chewie in the same thread, anyone notice the similarity between the BlueOval Z and Chewie's Avatar car as seen from above? Both are working on the figure-8 profile pretty hard..... looks great. -
OK, I saw a Sr20Det, S15 pretty much complete, including 6 speed, drive shaft, and speed sensing rear, with a buyItNow of $3600. Seems steep, but I wouldnt really know for sure. What do ya think? If I miss out on it it is no big deal at all... but I have no idea how common this complete swap is.
-
Just wondering if anyone is familiar with the nissan LSD rear with a Speed sensor, it came out of a Sylvia with the 6 speed tranny and SR20DET. What is the function of the speed sensor, and is it necessary to use that car's 6 speed tranny or ECU? Any pertinent info appreciated. tannji

Damn, Grumpy strikes again.... lol. You should put some serious thought into writing a book, dude. you would seel quite a few copies right here, I am thinking, lol. -
The EU considers the embargo unfair for the same reasons that our treatment of Saddam's regime was unfair: they are losing trade dollars. China, on the other hand, has always had the inside track in this race. They know full well that any pressure we put on them to improve human rights or "encourage" allies like N. Korea to play nice will always be softened by the fact that everyone wants a piece of China's HUGE consumer base and developement opportunities.

How do I widen my suspension?

what about using the 240SX rear drive-train and suspension, like Maichor did? I think that ended up being around 6 inches wider from the start, and would get you very close to where you need to be, making wheel sizing and spacing much less of an issue. Plus, you would be able to use the very stout R230, and take advantage of the better suspension design. -
Best tool for the job,.. Slicing up the plastic center console
tannji replied to a topic in Body Kits & Paint
there might be some cuts you couldnt manage with it, but a abrasive-coated wire saw would be the best.... with a close second to an open-ended hacksaw with a fine metal blade on it, for the cuts that you cant use a 2-pole saw like the hacksaw or wire saw on. -
For some reason this motor is intriguing to me.... but I am not finding a lot of info about it in my searching. Someone had a thread about engine weights, but it wasnt listed there. Does anyone know of a good website with forums that would be appropriate? I read a lot today, and found even more up-to-date info on that ARE car (sick project, those guys are building an amazing car.) They mentioned using a custom tremec tranny for their application, but the Supra 5 or 6 speed would do fine for our cars.... I want some in depth info on aftermarket parts, weights, trannies, RPM ranges, ect. The ARE car will be spinning up to 10,000 RPM !!!! People are also getting insane HP off the stock crank and heads. I am seeing some very reasonable prices on the engine alone, but want to flesh it out a bit before I get any further.

I dont think we should overlook the fact that Saddam did in fact have options other than facing us down. Had his primary concern been humanitarian issues and proving we were wrong about WMD, he could have done so quite easily, and made the US look a little foolish at the same time. Fact is he took a gamble and lost. Wasnt a really bad gamble, on the surface, because it was hard to imagine a leader of the US having the determination to do what GWB did.... but we are left with two little factors as a result.... Saddam is gone.... and other like-minded leaders have since re-adjusted their strategic thinking as it concerns the US and its willingness to project force. For that matter, our allies, who are quite busily making efforts to patch up their relations with the US, will be making the same adjustments to their thinking. It might not be pretty, but GWB's actions have changed the rules and the conditions beyond what we can immediately see.

I doubt there are any solid figures on that.... bodies just turn up... leaving you to wonder how many have been kidnapped or murdered without us knowing. The insurgents seem to favor sending messages by these methods.. I doubt we will ever know for certain.

there is an option for the STS on trucks that is similar, they call it a "snorkel".... = ) If you dont mind intake sounds in the cockpit, you could use the intake to pull the exhaust fumes out of the car, but I think that might get to be a little much for me. I have been thinking about options for the intake also.... being as my back half is going to be pretty non-stock, perhaps a new tail light panel with the intake and filter incorporated behind a grill in the center.... I imagine it would have people scratching their heads a bit to go to the rear of the car and hear the intake "whoosh".... lol.

Someone (OBX maybe?) makes a piping that is vaned inside and out for exactly that purpose.... but I am thinking that you would also take a hit on flow with it. I would rather take that hit with a FMIC, but ya, if your purpose was stealth, it would fit the bill. I am planning on cramming one of the STS units in my Z eventually... but it will obviously take some devious routing, and a fuel cell. As for water puddles, as long as you use some common sense, it hasnt been a problem so far... people living in some of the wetter regions have been using the STS system with little to no issues. I just want the ease of install, the cooler and uncomplicated engine bay, and the stealth/unusual aspect. I also want to be able to manage the drivability of the Z with an LS1 in it, and this will do nicely. I plan on lowering compression slightly, going with forged pistons/rods, upgrading valves, springs, seats, ect, and running a redline of about 7000 to 7300 RPM. With most of the boost by about 3000 to 3500 RPM, I would still have some revs left to play with, and it would be such a huge contrast to my current TPI engine and its ineffective rev range.

I would imagine that posting some pics and data, as well as waiting a little longer will bring more results. -
OK, if I am understanding you properly..... because it seems that the staff has conservative roots and background, they are lying when they say their work is non-partisan? So by that logic am I to assume that Jimmy Carter's work around the globe is partisan? Or that if I donate time, blood, or money to charitable causes, I do so to promote a conservative agenda? Perhaps I am to assume that the Democratic party's efforts to reach out to inner-city youth has no greater concern than that of recruiting potential voters? Remind me to ignore any study or poll that has its origins in a liberal organization, because the results must be skewed or biased, or those of conservative organs, because we have to be on constant guard against the schemes of the vast right-wing conspiracy. As it so happens, I consider myself a right leaning Independant.... and I regard as suspect anything coming from the parties.... but that doesnt extend to the world at large. Unless I miss your point from the previous post, I think that ANYTHING you say should be taken with a grain of salt.... I stop short of calling you a liar.... (as you did the IRI) but I find your innuendo and references to hidden agendas strangely ironic. = )
-
OK, so are you saying the poll was fudged and they lied, or merely that if they had been polled by some Democratic Party organization, their answers would have been different? If you cant imagine that they would have a positive impression of President Bush (in comparison to their life under Saddam), all I can say is I wouldnt waste anymore of my time reading the news, (were I you) as you obviously have a rigid preset view of the world around you, and nothing you read or see is going to change that. I think I tend to agree with Mikelly......

A 2004 GTO just ran 10.6 on a STS kit, not bad for a 4000 pound car.

OK, not to offend anyone anymore than I probably already have in the past.... = ) but saying that Muslims or Muslim countries hate us generally, or hate us because we are a threat to their religeon or culture, is stereotyping and simplistic. Most of the HATE come from a minority, and is educated into them by an even smaller minority. It is no different than the extreme prejudice that we stereotypically associate with the deep south in our own country. The Muslim faith has some leanings against other cultures, true. But the extreme teachings come from the few, and are most attractive to the uneducated and economically deprived. They have an audience there that has very few competing choices. There are general issues that generally inspire distaste... we dont like religion-based government, or suppression based on caste or sex..... they dont like "loose" morals, eating of unclean meats, and our social freedoms that they interpret as dangerous to spiritual and moral core values. It is the extremist minority, the militaristic fundalmentalists that turn this into a cause for hate and terrorism. There is an element that has had a large portion of the power and influence there for centuries, and their power and influence is based on the conditions of general uneducation, lack of opportunity, cultural unease, and distrust of the western world. The distrust is well-founded.... the countries with the ability to project power and policy have meddled there for the past 800 years.... so it doesnt take too much of a faux pas by Bush or anyone else to justify the preachings of the extremists there, and win another generation of converts to the violent fundalmentalist cause. Unfortunately... we are historically weak in understanding and interacting with foreign closed cultures.... and then you have the oil card. We are in the catch 22 of being in the position of being best able to coerce or influence, but at the same time, generally being the country with the poorest understanding of how to do it effectively outside our own country and culture. Unfortunately, our best weapon is not so much democracy as it is education and commerce. Get them to value the same things we do, free trade, profits, elevated life-styles... and things like greed, keeping up with the Jones, and creature comforts etc.. will generally bring them closer to us and tend to discourage some of the major clashes, as they are indeed based on culure. But there is the rub.... the influence peddlers and the fundamentalists are resisting that cultural exchange with all their might.... and so a process that was already going to take generations is largely stymied. If ya can't win with economics and lifestyle, you are back to democracy as a core value that needs to be projected. We are projecting and selling democracy in the only manner that it will sell over there... to the repressed masses who MIGHT want it and MIGHT remember who helped them get it in the future.... and that places us in the position of having to compromise our values and tastes, in order to have anything remotely similar to allies in the region. Co-existing with the Middle East has never been a picnic, nor can it be done according to some smarmy sunday school teacher's golden rule. We are the enemy to a large number of people over there, because they have been taught that we are, and we have done very little to show that we aren't. The power-base over there needs a vast, mysterious, threatening, and all-powerful enemy to sell their teachings, and we fit the bill perfectly. In fact, you could make an arguement that the single greatest advancement in mid-east/western interaction has been the internet and satellite TV.... because it sells a far truer message than our politicians are capable of. The younger generation will be more moderate and open-minded, just as they are here... leaving progress dependant on the commodity we have the least of.... not oil, but time.
