Well, considering the hood started out at $200, its more like the games buyers like to play..... I used to own the full kit, (California Z kit) with that hood, and I certainly wouldnt pay that much now, but I would pay a decent amount for the full kit. Seems like the complete kit with fenders, quarters, hood, airdam, and whale tail went for about $2500 back in the 80's.

Just got off the phone with Luis Corujo of Paradise Racing. (He took a Toy Corolla with 2RZ and ran 8.06 at 164 last year.) He says go with the 2RZ for the shorter stroke, and says that with a package including pistons, rods, valvetrain, ARP studs, gaskets, ect I am looking at $2300. Furthermore, while I am shooting for ~400HP, he ran his Outlaw(?) class car with this basic kit with no problems at ~900HP. He says to get the W58 tranny off an old Celica, Supra, or truck, (basically, pull a tranny off an older 20R or 22R motor) and it will already have the correct bellhousing, and should handle 400HP fine as a driver, and if it sees extensive track time, "Just keep a spare around". = ) Clutch, pressure plate, Lightened flywheel, ect will run $675. Would still need intake and exhaust mani's, which he has available, of course. Nice custom stuff too, not cobbed together log manifold. I mentioned that I wanted to do Megasquirt, but wasnt finding any info to go off of, and he knows of a couple guys over on CustomTacos that are starting MS&S installs, so that will be a good tech resource also. He is taking his motor to a new chassis, and is shooting for mid to low 7's, @~200mph this year. I think my goals fit this engine well, and still leave me a lot of room for over engineering for durability and reliability. A nice bonus is that he says he launches at about 7500rpm.... with 8000rpm as the redline. I wouldnt be pushing quite that hard, but I like having that as a capability, keeping in line with my desire to over-engineer. I was already leaning this way, but now I am sold. The 2/3RZ is an amazing little block, cant wait to start the conversion. http://www.paradiseracing.com/news.htm (some racing news and results from the Paradise Racing team)

*grown man bawling here* looks like my 240ZT is sold....

LOL, I totally feel ya dude... but I was referring to your last statement: "Once we're out of the place we're in now, then it's time to start thinking about having a kid! UGH!" = ) (I live with my GF, Her two kids, and Our Daycare, all 22 kids of it) -

About that grown man bawling.... -
I dunno... it is a nice collection of parts, but the only things that were not mostly bolt-in (paint and the duct/shrouding for IC and radiator) I dont care for. The paint speaks for itself, loudly. And the metal work seems like a first trial fit, not finished or properly bracketed. Its cool... but I would rather see that kind of money split 3 or 4 ways to make more rides like you see here.... = )

lol, nor was I complaining... more just a little shocked, this site has been the most reliable of any that I frequent, I have come to take its features for granted, along with its performance. Thank be to Dan, I would be lost without my fix, lol.

My performance here has suffered greatly since the update... searches take anywhere from 2 seconds to 15 seconds, if not timing out. It has timed out at least 3 or 4 times a day for me in the past week or so. Never had any issues before this, not sure if I am the only one.
-
That also sounds like classic fuel starvation... which I hope it isnt... but my 240 does exactly the same, and I am positive that its a fuel prob with mine.

The Z door, like most, is a very poor location for speakers, but that didnt stop a lot of them from being hacked open and plugged with junk speakers, or good speakers that actually require an enclosure. I would either junk them and repair your door-skins, or search for decent low-profile, open air or free air mid-range speakers. Make sure they are mids only, and that you dont over-drive them, if you are picky about audio quality, because the resulting vibration and harmonics are going to be pretty bad. Best compromise is to look for options mounted in the hatch and/or compartments behind your seats.

Its a technicality.... if an engine ends up entirely behind the front crossmember, it is often referred to as "midengine". Between the engine, tranny, and my butt.... a majority of the non-chassis weight will be between the wheels. Its possible your LT1 sits that far back as well, I suppose... so ya, if so you could say that too. I just like a lot of the options the 3RZ gives me, including the room in front of the engine, as well as having only the intake over the steering column. I think having the intake and exhaust on opposite sides will make for easier and cleaner plumbing, and will allow me to do some nice things with the appearance, as well as with the performance.

Man, thats great to hear! I have been through similar stretches in employment and self-employment, and know the feeling all too well. I hope all of that ends up falling your way. I quit my job to help the GF run a home daycare... we took it to 100K+ a year in our second year, and now she wants her life back.... = ) so I am looking at options in the "Real World" again. I am leaning towards taking a 6 week welding course to qualify for John Deere's production facility. Just wish I had chosen that path 20 years ago, I would have had more fun, and more completed projects along the way. Hope to hear more good news soon!

Actually, I agree with Oleh's major points... just not to the point of saying what he did about a 4 banger not belonging there. I have swung back and forth over what I want in my 240... and I finally decided to try the I4 to get the feel I want in the Z. I have driven Turbo swaps and loved them. I have driven V8 swaps, and have owned two as well. Lots of fun, but it seemed to me that short of going LSx and hugging the firewall, I wasnt going to like the feel as well as I might like a powerful I4 that is basically in a mid-engine posistion. Not only does this install have potential to get the feel and performance I want, it leaves a little extra room to play with the rest of the setup, particularly from the X-member forward, where I would like to experiment with Radiator, IC, and Intake positioning. THe SRT comes close in potential, but I am concerned about jumping thru hoops and not ending up satisfied with my tranny, and I think that I can over-build the 3RZ and end up with the power I want, in an incredibly durable and reliable block. I think the SRT I4 might be on the edge of its stock limits, where-as the 3RZ would still be close to stock block, with plenty of untapped potential still available, should I get bit by the bug. It also appeals to my Z humor that I could easily bore and or stroke the 3RZ to 2.8L.... ending up with close to 3X the 240Z's original HP, and still have a relatively comfortable and streetable car. (assuming the use of a variable boost controller = )

Search Google if you go that route, there is a website you can join that will do it for you, didnt occur to me, as the resulting latency would kill any of the games I play. Shouldnt be a prob for Poker, unless the site security is looking for that. (as it should, to prevent swindles)

I was considering that, (and it has been posted on here before) but the tranny issue was giving some people pause. I hadnt heard of the Jeep angle, so that is a new twist for me. I would probably jump on that idea as it sits, but for the fact that I am liking the 2.7 toyota 3RZ better, and I know what I am getting in trannies... not sure I would like a truck tranny, not that I know what comes in the Jeeps. Honestly, the only thing that would really tempt me over the 3RZ is the fact that the 2.4 comes already turboed, and has aftermarket reflecting on that. I would suspect that the Toyota block will be more durable, and probably a "nicer" runner, based on Toyota's track record with engine design, but I sure would like to see someone do the SRT swap as well, preferably before I am too deeply committed to the 3RZ = ).

You need to ask the ISP, they have the option, depending on router equipment, of leasing you multiple IPs... but many cable companies will not, or do only on a commercial basis, meaning you pay significantly more for the same service you have now.

Well, my .02... I am from NM originally... but havent lived there since 88. While the cost of living is going up there, in relation to the rest of the country it is laughable. Last I checked, mortgage rates in NM were the lowest in the country, and price per foot even in the "nice" areas of Albuquerque are reasonable, hell, steals really. I have lived in a lot of states and briefly in England, and traveled a lot. Even the places I hated had their positives, but I have yet to find an area that completely stacks up the the Southwest in general. (Assuming you dont get hysterical if the ocean isnt within commuting distance.) I really love NM, but I have to give Colorado an edge in quality of life in general. New Mexico has always suffered from a slightly depressed economy and job market, and things like infrastructure, education, and social services leave a bit to be desired. It is Z heaven, if you have a sun-proof dash, and there are great roads and highways for stretching the Z's legs and reflexes. Crime has also become more of an issue there than what it was when I lived there, which really pains me. I still consider it "home" and I hate to see things that put my home in a bad light. Colorado has most of the same positives as New Mexico; great mountains, great roads, above average outdoor lifestyle, good weather, enough of a change in season to appreciate without being inconvenienced, ect... and has some of the "Big City" bennies, like Pro sports, access to major entertainment at the drop of a hat. Colorado is strong in Pop Culture, New Mexico reeks of Folk Culture. Colorado is green, New Mexico... well, isnt very green. Colorado has good Mexican food, New Mexico started the whole thing and has the best Mexican food on the planet, as well as the best Chilis grown in North America. (Hatch Valley and Big Jims, accept no substitutes = ) If I were taking school age kids, I would go private schooled in NM, while CO has some decent public schooling, as long as you are actively involved in your childs education. (I am a bit biased, I dont consider the majority of us to be as involved and aware as we should be in our childrens education and social developement) Really, I would say that if you appreciate aspects of life that arent supplied by TV or video games, NM is worth looking into. If you have more finances, like season tickets and manicured infrastructure, CO will appeal. Utah and Arizona are next on my list of preferred states, if you dont mind a preponderance of Mormon-influenced laws (no slur intended) or 20+ days of 100+ degree days per year. (Someone mentioned Flagstaff earlier, beautiful area, nice town last I knew, and had incredible steak = ) Last item on my list.... I have seen no better sunsets in the world than I have experienced in the Southwest, with an edge to Albuquerque; there is nothing that compares to a jaw-dropping sunset in the West, with the Sandia and Monzano mountains lit up in warm pink in the East. You really havent lived till you see that = ) PS: Will be moving to the NM/CO border area very soon.... not ideal, but a nice compromise, brought about by necessity, lol.

You might be better served to look at either the KA24 or the 3RZ, both truck motors with more initial torque. I have been looking into info on the 3RZ (Toyota 4Runner, Tacoma) for a while now, havent found any reason it wouldnt be a great match for a Z, and a plus is having the intake on the drivers side and exhaust on the passenger side, making for better plumbing, IMO. Also, the 3RZ in stock form has a very nice linear powerband.... around 180ft/lbs, I believe. Both of these engines will be considerably cheaper to source, as well. Should you decide to look for more power down the road, the 3RZ probably has significantly more potential than either the SR20 or KA24.
-
If you use brackets, sleeve up some Nylon threaded retainers to go thru the radiator, that should work fine, and are cheap to replace when and if they fail.
-
They use stock style here, didnt think to ask if they had the other style available for the Z.

Call your local Autoglass installers, I did here in BFE, Iowa... and I came up with $149, installed.
