LMAO..... while I admire the spirit of that, it didnt do a darn thing to prevent 9-11. Our constitution isnt meant to protect us against threats from beyond our borders, so I am a bit lost as to how that is supposed to have helped.... but as long as it works for you...... = ) I say not having been in one of the Towers worked considerably better for you than did the constitution. As for hindsight.... it is my hope and belief that the Intelligence services are now atempting to practice FORESIGHT and INTERROGATION, rather than preaching the benefits of hindsight. Conventions and pieces of paper are great for lawyers, great for people to display... but they rarely save lives or prevent violence by those who by definition do not respect them. Abraham Lincoln managed to leave a legacy matched by very few... but he did it recognizing that desperate times usually mandate desperate measures, and his real legacy is generally downplayed or ignored by the people who teach most of our history. I do not like the idea of torture, but I dont think many of the victims of 9-11 did either... There are times when events call for drastic measures and I am very grateful that I do not have to make a decision regarding torture.... I wouldnt want to have to weigh a suspects life and rights against my country's. In my mind, the scariest aspect of torture is the slippery slope we find ourselves on if we use it and accept it's use.... but I find the the situation we are in with terror and our means to combat it just as scary.

Without coming off as supporting torture... what are the better ways?

Love the Garage, but I would settle for that Lil Racer Beemer..... so sweet.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A14590-2005Mar7?language=printer "Could George W. Bush Be Right?" asked Claus Christian Malzahn in the German newsweekly Der Spiegel. Essayist Guy Sorman asked last month in the Paris daily Le Figaro (by subscription), "And If Bush Was Right?" In Canada, anti-war columnist Richard Gwyn of the Toronto Star answered: "It is time to set down in type the most difficult sentence in the English language. That sentence is short and simple. It is this: Bush was right." The tipping point came last week when Lebanon's pro-Syrian government fell. The international online media, much of which had been critical of Bush during his first term, had to acknowledge democratic developments on the American president's watch. Many commentators also cited free elections in Afghanistan last fall, Palestinian elections in early January followed by the Jan. 30 Iraq elections. Then came local elections in Saudi Arabia and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's announcement of constitutional changes allowing his opposition to challenge him electorally. Given Bush's insistence that the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq would lead to a democratic political order in the Middle East, many Europeans are "somewhat embarrassed" by these developments, Sorman wrote in Le Figaro.

Two Years in the Federal Correctional Facility in Sheridan O
tannji replied to a topic in Body Kits & Paint
Welcome back!! This thread is the oldest thread I remember reading in the forum.... You went away shortly after I started coming here, and many of us will be very glad to have you back and participating again. Good luck with everything, I wish you a drama-less life.... at least until you get "#8" back on the road..... = ) tannji -
lol, I read all that, and many daughter threads and links... didnt find a definitive answer on the srt4/rwd tranny. Anyone else smarter and able to decipher it a little better than I was? I would be interested in pursuing this option, as long as there is something concrete in the way of tranny options.

what issues with fuel and octane rating would I have in the US if I used the the red or black-topped RB20? I noticed a comment on this from a Auzzie, but am not familiar with their fuel ratings. I dont mind having to pump premium fuel.... but is our premium adequate for this engine? "The only downside is that it doesn't seem to like 96 RON octane fuel - It detonated on me the other day, so back to the 98 RON and poor idle quality...." not familiar with RON......

Anyone have any idea if there are PC emulators for the PS2? I dont think I am going to go get a PS2 for one game.... especially as I am about to build a new AMD 64 pc with all the goodies... but on the flip-side, the AMD 64 should have the grunt necessary to run a emulator with no probs... and that game would be my first purchase..... played the hell out of the original GT on PS1.... spent many hours on the driving tests alone.... then many more on the phone with a friend so we could do the enduance races "simultaneously" and break eachothers records. My Lancer was a setup he couldnt beat, even with the maxed out Mitsu.

ya, the midwest has its pro's and con's.... I am in Davenport Iowa... and its relatively inexpensive here... but the economy is pretty piss-poor, and from the indications, getting worse. I moved here from Denver, which I miss a ton.... but the difference in housing prices is staggering. I own a house on a fairly small lot, 80 years old, detached 80 year old single-car garage.... but the house is fairly big. I would pay around 250 to 300K in denver for a similar house/neighborhood.... but paid 125 here, and over-paid at that. (we needed this house, and needed it immediately) We run a daycare out of the house, which is a relatively stable and safe occupation, as long as you dont get sued or shut down by the state. Winters are great, as I am deathly allergic to the midwest in general, and winter affords me temporary relief.

XP doesnt actually sense ram.... (XP tells you what the bios and firmware told it during the post and boot sequence) so if in fact you are unable to get rid of the problem thru bios tweaking or hardware swapping, it will most likely be a problem with your actual ram slots.... pretty strange one too, as most problems in that area would usually either prevent booting or cause lots of error messages. My money is on configuration probs.... I think you'll figure it out, or accidently fix it thru adding or removing hardware.

LOL... there is no definitive operating system.... I used to do a lot of work with images, and most of the machines were macs.... being as I was more familiar with MS... I hated life for the most part, because of all the lost files, file system coruption, ect.... I had by far more trouble with the mac OS than I have had with 98 or XP. Most of that was due to comfort level with the software. SP2 works well for most people, and for those that did have issues, most were compatibility problems and have since been resolved. Having lots of experience with MS, I waited 6 months before installing SP2.... and have yet to have an issue with it. I have never once had a BSOD with XP, and any lockups or crashes were due to specific software problems, not OS problems. Then again, I build all my own hardware, and dont have to worry about as many hardware or software incompatibilities. Being as I like to have access to hardware and software options that arent available with the macs, I stick with MS or linux and X86 for now. With Cell on the horizon, perhaps that will change.

In your machine's bios there will be a setting that controls how much system memory is allocated to onboard ram. There is no doubt that getting an inexpensive AGP card will increase the performance of the system... but dont get a PCI card.... there is no real justification for it, AGP is quite inexpensive, and an AGP card functions better as a bus-master. (grabs resources better than a PCI card.) As for ME vs XP.... as long as you hardware is good, (and your mobo is decent) and you have everything installed properly, there is no comparison between ME and XP. ME is a crippled POS that was meant to hook people to the newer look of windows, and was never intended by MS to be used or supported for very long. I wont get into all the issues that are inherent with ME, but being as XP is already installed, keep it, it does everything better than ME, including networking, ie: internet will run better, not that you will notice if you are on dialup, lol. Also, even tho 256MB is the lowest recommended amout for XP... you might have a problem with that mobo and running 2 different sizes of ram. Good luck.. post back with followup! tannji

FYI... there are LCD TVs out there with better response times... and that will eliminate the trails.... I saw a 30 inch with a 16ms response time.... for a reasonable price, too.

hey Maichor, this seems to be an appropriate place to ask.... Now that it is running and sorta on the road.... how would you describe the rear suspension's affects on the car? I know there are a lot of variables.... it being a roadster now probably changes overall feel a bit too, but could you give a brief technical and butt-tech overview or opinion on handling and feel? thanks tannji

Great post.... wanna place any odds on Sistani's lifespan? I hope that they figure something out, like building him a muslim version of the forbidden city.... because Iran has a long history of quietly and not so quietly removing thorns such as he. Perhaps an address from Pres. Bush directly linking Sistani's well-being to Iran's continuing sovereignity..... would never happen, but I would support such a statement.

How long did we occupy Germany after WWII? If we are truly committed to seeing a representative government in any form succeed in Iraq, we will have to be physically there to babysit and guide it. I dont see the current generations of Americans having the intestinal fortitude and awareness that made the occupation and rebuilding of Germany and Europe possible. If we do end up leaving on a timeline that the majority would prefer, I dont see that recent gains in Iraq can be maintained. There are times when I think GWB is short-sighted and buys in too easily to the pie-in-the-sky rosy forecasts... and there are others where I hope he is merely taking the longview.... that his fathers generation would have, and is content to take the criticism in return for a long-term success like we had in Europe, regardless of the hammering he takes from the media and political detractors. Personally, I think that if we could gradually pull out of the day-today running of Iraq, and just maintain the bases and forces in Iraq to remind the other players in the region that we have the means and will to exert our will, we could come out of this situation with acceptable losses, and with an apparent path towards longterm gains in the rest of the region. I think that our long-term presence there would go a long way towards dis-proving the contention that we are there in an effort to make an asset grab, and we could generally discourage further efforts by syria, Iran, and others to inflict their will both in Iraq and abroad. The question is.... will Americans have the foresight and will to pursue this? If not, we wasted every lost life there, and need to vacate immediately.

it hasnt caused much of a problem for anyone yet, but they have some sort of filter that help prevent any damage, not to mention fabbing a shield for it.

Little update, this guy with a 94 chevy truck (6000+ pounds) just ran a 1.7sec 60, and 11.99 @110mph, on the STS with 5 pounds boost. He is going to put on some taller, stickier tires, and install IC, and go do some 10 pound runs. Oh, that 1.7sec 60 was with the truck trying to go sideways.... lol.... imagine trying to launch that setup in a Z.
-
As Kazuya noted, the STS system got a lot of air-time, very controversial for a while. It is not the best setup for a 1/4 mile car, but like most any other setup, with a mix of accessories and technique, it performs decently.... just doesn not have the best 60 around. There are a LOT of F-body, Y-body and Chevy/GMC trucks running it with some rather amazing track times. (for trucks) While it is designed to run at low PSI with no additional cooling, the dramatic difference in intake temps with an IC would make me go with an IC unless the car just had no room at all for it. The thing that impresses me is that I have yet to hear from an owner who doesnt like it. Some will admit that there are better setups for the track, but that seems to be its worst criticism. It is at its best in a vehicle that needs a little (or a lot, lol) of oomph, but also needs to keep its manners in day to day driving. One owner has his F-body with STS in the 700 to 800hp range, and it is every bit as scary as that level of power suggests.... apparently he tested it for the first time with his wife in the car.... and she doesnt like it all that much.... apparently had somethign to do with dramatic and sudden loss of traction at 80 mph...... In a Z, we have the room to do a standard turbo install on a V8, but the STS in stock configuration would be a little cheaper and a lot easier to install, right up until you get around to routing the exhaust and intake plumbing. I dont believe you could do it on a stock chassis. For those of us planning on some extensive mods, like 240SX rear suspensions, fuel cells, ect... it could work. One of the things I like about it the most is a simplified engine bay, and a lot less heat under the hood.

I havent bought anything from Ross.... YET.... but I will. I emailed with a couple of noob questions, and got a reply the next day, and perhaps to forestall more noob questions, he let me call him. I spent over an hour on the phone with him, in spite of offering several times to let him get back to his real life. I have bought items from several other vendors mentioned on this site, and never got the same service or feeling that Ross gave, unsolicited. When the planets, my bank account, and the tides all align properly, I will be sending Ross a fairly large amount of money.... cant wait. tannji -
Absolutely.... but the majority of viewers watch media with a liberal tendency. And my semi-balanced perspective doesnt favor Fox over CNN, lol. To tell the truth, I watched fox more during the initial assault of the war... not much at all since.... I find them to be just as sensationalist (if not more) as the other outlets. Does it make sense that sometimes having information tilted towards the stance someone thinks you want is more offensive than having to filter the other leanings? Shrug. I was a journalism major... learned enough to never have joined the field.
-
It would be different... they have to hide their executions. The only thing that will work is targeting leadership, for a long time. They have unlimited resources when it comes to recruiting... but finite leaders. This is where proper funding, training, and use of the intelligence services comes into play. Problem is, we need indigent agents.... difficult to obtain in that neck of the woods.... but not impossible. Congress needs to realize this, and the heads of Intelligence even more so. I dont look to see significant change any time soon tho....

Surely even the most liberal have to realize that journalism is a business, based far more upon selling content than merely exposing the truth?

*EDIT* SOLVED I can't get HybridZ since the software swap
tannji replied to RB26powered74zcar's topic in Site Support
Right off the bat I would double check computer security proggies and popup blockers... sounds like one of them has decided that HybridZ is a bad place.
