  1. Dude.... been there, done that..... and you dont want the T-shirt. Its called carbon monoxide poisoning.... and the effects are accumulative.... meaning you kill brain cells every time you do it. (kinda like pot, but worse, lol) Do something about it, as it sounds like you dont realize the significance. Not trying to preach.... but the symptoms can come on very quickly.... and if you are on the highway in traffic..... I would rather hear ya bitchin about being broke than the alternatives.
  2. If I were to ever believe that someone did this with the intent of suckering the Democrats, all the errors and the relative lack of comment by the Republicans would be my first clue. Some of the people seem a little smug about it.......
  3. Take note that I dont actually think that this happened, but if I were a political weasel, and knew that the opposition was hunting high and low for dirt, I wouldnt be opposed to (and this would occur to me immediately) making something for them to find, plausible, and yet right up the alley they preferred. I would play very hard to get.... and then donate the considerable proceeds to the Democratic National Committee. Like I said, not likely.... but still very plausible.
  4. Little error there.... We certainly have the best Health Care in the world, but 40% of us cant afford it. The health care SYSTEM leaves a lot to be desired. Also, the cost of healthcare is not driven mostly by the uninsured, but is greatly influenced by both malpractice lawsuits, and over-zealous profiteering by the companies that make the products for health care. Additionally, several of those worthless stealth planes have been shot down..... the same planes that sounded the death knell in the Soviet Unions hopes for Communism. I remember atomic shelters and the duck&cover, and served in the military towards the end of the cold war. We have been trimming military spending ever since. Some of the people in the field right now might have an opinion on whether or not the stealth technology that supports them is necessary or beneficial.
  5. That would by definition be a platitude, lol. Good to see she is not disappointing me. Just wish I could be more confident Bush is learning from HIS mistakes.
  6. That is incredible. There are serious issues with both candidates.... plenty of legitimate things to talk about and spin... and they had to manufacture that. I heard one almost better tho.... Kerry's wife telling a reporter here in Iowa that the Russian hostage situation was staged, that it was a strategic maneuver by the Bush crew to gain points in his strong suit. Kerry's wife developed "stomach problems" a couple hours later and went home. I doubt we will hear anything other than platitudes from her the rest of the campaign.
  7. Man, talk about the perfect show..... they finally got one right, not even Monster garage or OCC did this one.... I will tape a tv show for the first time in about 20 years, lol. We have a lot of nice cars on this site, but I have to say yours fills a very exclusive category all by itself. It is totally appropriate that it should get this kind of recognition. Congratulations!! Oh yeah, the possible downside to this.... They arent picking HybridZ member for the contestants are they? We will have to see if they can be "recruited" lol
  8. Yeah, I will be doing that in mine, using one of the micro pc's with a via cpu.... no heat worries, plenty of power for MP3's, ect.... and small..... smaller than a shoebox, with all the basic capabilities of your desktop. I plan on some interesting mods to my LS1, and I want some of that controlled by or interfaced with a nice PC and screen in the car.
  9. There were reasons for enacting the term limit for presidents, and I hold no illusions to FDR being a saint. He was however a strong president, and represented the USA well to the world at large. You can dig dirt on just about any president you want to, regardless.... I personally "like" Silent Cal" Coolidge... but I dont know that he would have even been able to get elected, much less function in todays world of sound-bites, spin, and spoonfed populace.
  10. Another thing that FDR enjoyed was 4 terms.... in this day and age, I think it is almost impossible to accomplish a whole lot domestically in one term, and very difficult to give anything domestic significant momentum or staying power in less than 2 terms. Bush is signaling a shift (as much as is possible with terror and Iraqi concerns) back to domestic agendas.... Imagine what could be accomplished with 4 terms and some cooperation..... sadly, that will never happen again for any president.
  11. Thank you JohnC... you beat me to it, and probably one-upped me at the same time. (I havent read that book, but will now) I did think this was funny or sanctimonious, or something.... You mean you never did anything behind your parents back as a child or teen? Perhaps you were a virgin birth as well.... I know it is unreasonable to expect grounded comments that arent self-serving.... but every now and then I forget to check myself... Polititicians and their histories are like the bible, anyone can spin anything to mean whatever they want. Naive comments about telling little events in a man's life are just redundant here... we have the media for that. Just wish so many people didnt base their votes on them.
  12. LOVE that Corolla! I would like to see that done in a Z for sure, but I think some sort of EFI would be preferable to the SU's as well.
  13. Wow, that looks "Tight".... = ) good job.
  14. LOL, just got a mental picture of you and the wasps..... wouldnt have been funny if I hadnt been there my self.... Happened to me twice this week in a parking lot.... All I could think of was what people were thinking of a grown man suddenly running erratically from his truck, and then walking back and leaving like nothing happened.
  15. Finally!!! We have needed a "MADMAX" Z..... and all the MadMax doubters can shut up about Mel using a switch to turn on his SC... lol
  16. Imagine the car in a wind tunnel instead of moving on a track. The car is staionary, and moving air is pushed past the wing by the tunnel's impellers. All the air is essentially moving at the same speed, with the same momentum, and the same enertia. The reason the air "must" travel around the wing in the same amount of time is that that the air has enertia, it is already moving that fast, and therefore will exert force to try to continue moving that fast. The forces apparently manifest as vacqum and pressure, depending on where you look on the wing.
  17. And after all' date=' isn't that the only thing that matters?[/quote'] All I can really say, not wanting to an apologist for EITHER party, is that the United states has always and always should to one extent or another, looked out for its interests internationally. In spite of various recessions and political ballyhoo, we have enjoyed prosperity and freedom on a level like no other country in the world. I pay very little attention to liberal criticism of our foreign policy (regardless of what MY opinion of said foreign policy is.... = ) because liberal foreign policy doesnt have a stellar track record in the past 50 years. Our foreign policy has far more impact on our daily lives than people either know, or in some cases, like to admit. I wont make excuses for Bush and his "fixation" on WMD as justification for invading Iraq, but I will say that we were justified in going there, MORE for its impact on the rest of the terrorist world than for any WMD Iraq may or may not have. Keep in mind, WMD was only one of the justifcations, the base premise was Iraq's refusal to entirely cooperate with the UN resolutions. I wish we had had more confidence in our mandate under the resolutions to go do that job, instead of making a political decision to use WMD as a justification.
  18. I did a search for the millermatic 35 and came up short.... did you mean the 135? I am getting a mig soon, and want a good compromise between budget and nice welds. Its starting to look like I need to spend between $650 and $1000 to get a capable machine....
  19. Scottie.... no offense meant here, I hold you, your car, and most of your opinions in the highest regard.... So I will apologize in advance. There is no breed of dog that is of an "unpredictable nature". You have dogs, dogs with bad temperments, dogs with bad, negligent, or abusive owners. And then you have all the other dogs. To put this in a form that most here would appreciate, dog owners or not; Our hybrid Z-cars are dangerous and should be outlawed, given the owners tendencies to race, drive erratically, and kill people. (It's the cars fault tho) A dog that is dangerous is best compared to a Z with faulty brakes and 2F2F teenage driver. In any case it is the owners fault for either not training and controlling the dog, or not putting it down once distemper has been determined. German shepards in particular, if one must stereotype them, are great with kids, and have been known to go to great lengths to protect members of their "family" even at the cost of their lives. It is a sad truth that a minority of irresponsible owners and breeders can destroy any breed of dogs' good reputation. A case in point: There was a family in upstate NY a few years back that got a lot of local press out of their crusade to ban ownership of certain breeds, based on their sons mauling.... While Breaking and Entering. While I was a kid, my family was involved in breeding, training, and showing dogs professionally. Although we were involved to some extent with many breeds, we spent most of our time and effort on Great Danes, German Shepards, and Belgian Sheepdogs. (Tervuerens) Belgians are the dominant breed in Europe for police dogs, despite their smaller stature, as compared to German Shepards. I would estimate that out of every 20 pups, we put down 1 or 2 for temperment or health concerns, and sold several others to very specific owners based on concerns over their behavior with animals or children. (these dogs had a tendency to have very rewarding and productive lives when paired with an adult who was single, and worked with the dog, ie: ranches, drivers, ect) Oh, and those Big, Bad Great Danes we raised? While certainly impressive, out of all the Danes we raised, there were very few who did not seem to put discretion ahead of valor. In otherwords, they put on a great show, as long as there was a fence to mediate. Come through the gate at a fast pace, and most of them would raise one hell of a racket.... at a safe distance. We wouldnt have had it any other way.
  20. Not to jump onboard any bandwagon, real or imagined.... but as much as I may have wished for a different management and direction in the Iraqi conflict.... When was the last time you heard any Serious sword rattling or bear-baiting coming from Korea?? They were cock-wooping it up before we decided to remove Saddam, telling everyone just how bloody of a nose they would give the "American Agressors" should we get too pushy in demanding human rights reform and nuclear inspection. Iran, on the other hand, seems to be watching our headlines a little too closely, and betting on a political save from within the USA to protect them from any retribution for their support of terrorism or developement of nuclear WMD. Immediately after our invasion of Iraq, Iran temporarily took a mildly conciliatory stance towards our concerns and requests.... but their gamble on American naivete and short memory seems to be paying off, and will in spades if Kerry has anything to do with it.
  21. lol.... if a parrot looked at me the way that eagle is looking at the cat, I would watch my fingers.... That bird has to be either wild or in a recovery program, which come to think of it, is probably where the kitty is headed. As for crows being smart.... yeah, smart enough to put a household in complete turmoil, lets leave it at that. It was quite the celebratory day when that crow decided (with some urging) that he was healthy enough to rejoin his brethren.
  22. man, I would pay for about 5 more seconds of video.... but the audible was spot-on.
  23. I have always been a "Cat Person".... and everything that cat radiates in attitude and stance says "clueless" to me. If that was a high dollar pet bird, I would be worried. As it is, I am thinking there is probably a blind kitty somewhere. Kinda hilarious and terrifying at the same time. We rescued a crow from a powerline accident once (big mistake, in retrospect) and the crow just about took over our house. Mean, demanding, and vocal. To make matters worse, it was smart as all hell, and took great delight in playing helpless and baiting our cats... which worked for longer than you would think. Usually, once a cat has had its ass handed to it by anything, there is a certain amount of respect the next time around. Two of our killers just wouldnt get it thru their heads that that crow was danger with an attitude. We never ended up taking any of the cats to the vet.... but it sure was messy for a few weeks. One of the cats ended up basically nervous for life.... probably a result of too many naps ending with a face full of crow.
  24. How about an update? I want to work with some CF at some point, and was hoping you would score that pallet, for sure.
