  1. 7 speed tranny, which automatically doubleclutches on every downshift. Paddle shifting, manual or full auto. I like the sound of that. Also, I think the rear view of the motor showing exhaust and flywheel is pretty enough to be a desktop pic.... = ) That power plant is BUILT! But I would also be wary of it until it has a couple years under its belt.... which is fine, most of couldnt dream of grabbing one for a few years anyway.....
  2. Those that need a short summary are the subjects of the article. Word.... I am 36.... and so, technically a baby boomer, imagine my surprise when I found that out.... Boomers were suppose to be my parents generation only. The above dissertation struck home with me, as I spent my first few years in a commune in the Mountains of New Mexico... literally a product of the 60's and the hippie movement. Some of the people I love the most were participants.... but most spent the majority of their lives vastly confused and at odds with reality. A lot of the people in my parents "crowd" were the political minority of the hippie movement, actually trying to accomplish something, even if it required actual work. In spite of their good intentions.... they damaged our country politically and ethically.... and you need look no further than the first president of their generation to see the results. Their legacy will be reduced to descendant generations, struggling with problems they were not raised or trained to be prepared to deal with. Imagine a generation raised with the belief that parental discipline is abuse, trying to get terrorism under control. As much as people admire former presidents like Eisenhower, Roosevelt, Lincoln, ect..... they feel free to trash the current administration for getting tough on Saddam, or bending the truth to achieve a political means. All of the obove gentlemen perpetuated some serious "spin doctoring" to get what they deemed necessary done. Ironically, one of our most ineffective presidents was also probably the most principled and honest we have ever had. Thank God the president of my childhood, Jimmy Carter, is not the one dealing with our post-9/11 reality.
  3. So if it shrinks and it weighs the same, how they hell does the density stay the same? If that isn't a violation of physics I am not sure what is. here ya go:
  4. Those rims go back further than the 90's.... those have the same look as the Einki's (sp?) that were must have in the early to mid 80's..... and as such, I have always associated them with the S30.... love the look. The mirrors were on a lot of cars, but usually because it was hard to find anything other than stock that looked right. The car looks like a hotty in progress..... keep going, dude!
  5. I look at soccer the way I used to look at hockey..... Having grown up in New Mexico, I never even saw hockey on TV until I moved to New York. Hated it, even after I saw a game or two. Then I won some tickets to an NY Islanders game, which I tried to give to my room mate so he could sell them or give them away. He freaked out, demanding how I got tickets to the Islander/Ranger game. Long story short, we ended up going, I had a blast, and I go to any hockey game I can find. On TV, I only watch Avalanche games, until the playoffs, when I watch as much as I can. Soccer is similar, in that it looks kinda boring on TV, if you dont appreciate the sport. Also, it adds to the experience if there are knowledgable, enthusiastic fans around you. I have frequently been annoyed at basketball or football games by loud, drunk, obnoxious fans. Not so much at soccer or hockey. (it is certainly possible tho..... = ) The fans are an important part of the experience. BTW Goldraven.... wasnt that soccer game at Investco Field???? Damn naming committees......... lol I miss Denver completely, Iowa just doesnt have anything to compare.
  6. Thank god that would never happen to me...... (My 240 is on figurative jackstands, I dont have either the balls or the youthful mindset, and back when I may or may not have been involved in that sort of activity, most video cams were large enough to have been blunt trama instuments at that speed......= ) As a matter of fact, the last time I was in a Z convoy like that, everyone was old enough to make or appreciate "C.W. McCall Convoy" jokes.
  7. LOL... I didnt have a very precise method of measuring, so I was going to tell you it was 9ish.... and to allow for 10, but they beat me to it. My TPI 350 and 700R will be for sale soon, but want to find a short in the fuel system first, so people will know they are getting a straight deal.
  8. if no one else knows... I'll try to go and measure mine in the 240.... just need to move some stuff to get to it. are you thinking about doing this swap?
  9. I have done somewhere between 60 and 80 backwards, in traffic rapidly approaching a red-light. Your record stands.... I was not looking at the speedo much, the car I had just beaten and the cars ahead.... make that behind me, already stopped at the light were taking more of my attention. I do remember realizing that the car brakes significantly better going forwards than backwards tho. Guess that could be my claim to fame, longest tread-strip laid down going backwards in traffic....
  10. I had a 240Z back in the 80's that had that complete kit +the whaletale, looked sharp. The only cars I saw completed had metal mesh in the cavity... looked ok, but I would like to see it a little more finished. Also, the airdam that came with mine (HUGE) had break vent intakes, and I have seen the Fender vented thru the side with three thin oval vents, looked very sharp, but I have no idea how effective it was. The owner swore it made a huge difference, but he was running stock breaks, so..... lol, who knows. I do know that before I switched to SBC and a turbo350 tranny, the car was FAR better mannered at 130+mpg than my 280Z felt with a good suspension. Unfortunately, I had a neighor back into that car twice in 3 months, which is why I developed some experience with glassing.... cheapest repair estimate I found was over $1000....
  11. what is your time-frame, Topless? I am about to sign the contract for new roof, siding, and new windows, and will start pouring a slab for my garage extension right after, so I wont be actively working on the car until things cool off, probably october/november. I am also going to be using some of the other products from the company the produces RustGrip, like the SuperTherm and Superbase. I am trying to get some time built-in to the project so I can apply Superbase and Supertherm to my walls before siding, and the roof before Shingles. On the Z, I want to use the rustgrip, and then the Supertherm for the firewall and exhaust path. They are also deveoping a variant intended to treat manifolds, headers, and exhausts. Let me know, I might want to get in on that with you. Supertherm homepage, if anyone is interested. http://www.supertherm.net/home.htm
  12. that stuff sounds like its RustGrip under a marketing name. If so, it is supposed to be very good.
  13. Damn dude.... that sucks.... been there too, last accident left me with only the waistband of my undershorts preserving my modesty..... had to ditch during a hard whip into a shallow cove that the driver misjudged, landed in about 6 inches of water on top of broken shale, and smacked a log, on top of it all. cracked ribs, broke a bone in my foot, lost my shorts, my t-shirt, and most of my dignity. Did get bragging rights for spectaculararity but all in all, it was something I would rather have missed. Get well!
  14. I like the idea of a rotary as well, but I would go 13b rather than 20b.... not only is it a very expensive route to go, but it is also HUUUUGE, I think it would be an extreme mod, and compromise the weight ratio's, that could be tweaked easily to perfection with the 13b motor. Seriously, how much HP do you need, realistically? you could fairly easily do 500 to 600 out of the 13b, without compromising handling or your budget. I would love to jump into a S30 and play with HP throughout a 8000rpm range.
  15. I think I would like the Solstice body better than that dodge, but it certainly is cool to see "American" companies starting to get a clue when it comes to modern sports cars. I have the solstice as my desktop background right now, and it has really grown on me.... but I doubt I would get one until they have depreciated significantly. However, like someone else said, My girlfriend likes it too.... and it only has to transport a couple of our daycare kids and we can write it off at the end of the year.... HMM
  16. WOW. I am very impressed. Either you, or the car makes those fast and consistent numbers looks very easy..... And the staging came across as kinda nonchalant...... I imagine you left an impression on at least 3 prople that evening that wont be forgotten. Well done, thanks for posting = )
  17. I think he already got flamed.... I think his next update needs pics
  18. Awesome! You need to post those videos, especially for those of us on jackstands for the foreseeable future.....
  19. that would be awesome.... I am not on an accelerated schedule either... waiting for the new garage sometime late summer. Thanks for the offer, and let me know when you have an idea of the cost. Tannji
  20. I also would be interested in a Relay board, tho I suppose it is not beyond me to do some Radio Shack cobbleing. If you decide that it wouldnt be a total waste of your time, sign me up!
  21. I think that we need some video, with sound.... then maybe we will believe ya..... ok... maybe its just the need to live vicariously, but still.
  22. Good post, grunt, and good for you, as well... = ) Sorry about the Warrant Officer demotion..... lol, I was in the Navy and have personal vendetta against warrant officers, but I suppose they cant all be bad. (I almost died thanks to one, reported to his sick call late on a friday, made him miss his Tee time I am almost 20 years past my enlistment date, but still feel that enlisting was a positive thing, and would repeat it. (despite the Navy hospital system trying to kill me, lol) Same deal with the draft, I would enlist, rather than sit and wait for the mandatory call to toe the line. This flawed country of ours has it good points, and I appreciate what I have. Occasionally, it comes time to pay your debt. Of course, not everyone does, which makes it mean more when you are saluted, or shown respect by civs that appreciate what you do. I am one of those silly people that still feel the urge to salute, stand at attention during the anthem, and still get chills during it as well. Shrug.... not everyone feels the same, doesnt embarrass me or make the feeling any less.
  23. lol, once again, 30 years of reading science fiction comes to the rescue.... as those writers have been thinking this out for more than 50 years. For a lot of reasons, liability among them, you will probably see countries other than NATO members as the first to allow facilities that cater to private or commercial space concerns. I would think the closer a small country is to the equator, the greater chance they would have of being involved. Personally, I think that the concept of a "space elevator" which has been featured in several major novels, as well as some very well read science magazines, might end up being the most practical means of achieving orbit, as well as the most novel means of reaching orbital velocity.... Think about it.... you could quite easily set up a rocket-powered sled on a track, attached to the side of the Empire State building to get to the top, but due to many concerns, elevators have been used. It seems that every time a seriously new and wondrous material is discovered, someone brings the idea of the elevator up. Once the prospect of getting into orbit has been taken out of the sexy realm of rocket propelled flight, and into the mundane tech like elevators, it seems to be less an idea of risk, liability, and funding, and more like waiting for the proper material or composite to be developed and mass-produced.
  24. hmm.... how did I double-post?
