  1. Jody, I hope you're out there and might be able to help me out. I'm finally getting around to this a year and a half later, and I just got my HF bender. It appears to be exactly the same one that you have. Unfortunately, I'm not having the same results. I resized your old pics so that people could see what we're talking about. I am using 1 3/4" x .120 wall DOM tubing. I thought maybe I would need to step up to the next size die, the 1 1/2" size. It measures 1 7/8 inside the arch of the die. So I gave that a shot and it was obviously a mistake. The tubing swelled out to fit the width of the die and kinked in the middle. Then I figured what the hell and tried bending some of the 1 3/4" pipe in the smaller die. This actually came out a LOT better, but still isn't good enough for me (or a tech inspector). Here's how it came out with the smaller die. If you're into drag racing I'm wondering if you might be using the .134 wall tubing and if that makes the difference with respect to the kinking. I know the bender says for thin walled tubing you might have to fill the tubes with sand. I'm not really excited about the prospect of having to fill all of these tubes with sand, I think I'd rather sell this thing and get a different bender. I am using a sleeve and that does seem to be keeping the ends from kinking, but I just can't seem to get the middle to bend without kinking. Any ideas for me? Am I doing something else obviously wrong?
  2. I believe all the XT turbos do have LSD, but as I recall they also have a big green sticker that says 3.70 LSD right on the cover. If the one you're looking at doesn't have the sticker, that could mean that it's been swapped out at some point, or the sticker just fell off. It's going to be a bit of a gamble...
  3. We're not talking about parts stamped differently. We're talking about completely different clutches. The clutches themselves are different (Z31T has grooved clutches, the others have a flat featureless surface), and there is an entirely different number of them. The interior of the case is different as well. The Z31T has the less agressive ramps and has no limits on how far it can spread the case. The other style has more agressive ramps and actually has stops inside so that the clutch stack can't preload beyond a particular point. Also the Z31T has no thrust washers, and the other one has thrust washers throughout. They're really different internally, not the same part made by 2 different factories.
  4. I think that was my fault. I was postulating how a 3.36 made his car faster.
  5. So you're saying your S130 had 1400 lbs of lift at the front end at 135 mph? Why am I doubting this?
  6. Nope, the 260Z 2+2 came with a 3.36 R200. I know, it's not on the list that you looked at, but it really did come in that car.
  7. You brought up a post that is 2 1/2 years old to add that? Check the dates next time! Also, it's ground-control.com.
  8. That is GVWR --Gross Vehicle Weight Rating-- and it means a car with 2 passengers (4 if that 280 is a 2+2) and luggage. The 240 should be in the 2400 lb range, the 280 in the 2850 lb range if I remember correctly.
  9. Yes, lots of racing cars have megaphone exhaust tips. Even the old BRE Z used dual exhaust with dual megaphones. Also very popular on Porsches in my experience. Used to work on one that had headers into megaphones. LOUD. REALLY LOUD...
  10. Terry, I know that's what makes sense mathematically, but talk to Scottie or some of the other drag racers. They want tall gears with their turbos, and they go faster with them. I had a bit of a hard time coming to grips with the idea myself, but it's been shown enough times that I don't doubt what they say anymore. It might not be faster coming out of a corner at xxxx rpm, but for straight line acceleration, it is what it is.
  11. I believe VB gets them from Tabco. You should be able to order from Tabco directly. http://www.tabcobodyparts.com/
  12. Yeah, very easy to swap in a BONE STOCK L28ET. Who wants that? Put an adjustable fuel pressure regulator on and you'll FAIL the visual. Swapping in a stock turbo motor is a waste of time I think. If you have to go bone stock, you might want to start with something that makes some decent power, LT1, LS1, etc. I'd find a 75, then not drive like an idiot or put big stripes and a wing on it. Do your racing at the track, and you'll be fine. I never even got pulled over in my Z when I lived in CA. Just my $.02,
  13. That's right. I helped him move the metric crap ton of parts too. I was sore for a week!!!
  14. That gear ratio on a NA L28 engine should make the car accelerate slower, but you'll be able to go to a higher speed in each gear. I'm wondering if you really put in a 3.36, or maybe you actually got a 3.90 or something. A 3.90 would definitely make the car faster. This might help others trying to figure out what gear ratio to get: http://www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/
  15. If they used that much grease I doubt they missed this, but there should be some grease on the seal where it hits the axle too. No grease there would cause more stiction.
