IMO and having driven a bunch of 10 lb flywheel 510s, the 10 lb is too light for a 4 cylinder. On the 6 in my friend's Z and mine (slightly heavier 12 lb) the extra 2 cylinders makes it just fine. Granted they are both NA, but I used to drive mine in traffic every day. Main thing is you need to get used to shifting faster. I think that was when I started cutting my tranny fluid with ATF.

Last post on the email thing then I'm done trying to convince you Wheelman. There have been plenty of illegal wire taps to prove that the wire tap authority could be abused. It's too easy to plant crap on anyone. If you read someone's snail mail that is one thing. The letter still goes to their home, they receive it and don't know that it has been read. Electonic files are totally different. Picture this: you wake up in the morning and find out on the news that the FBI raided a suspected child pornographer's house. They got a warrant for his computer and analyzed the hard drive and found 1000's of child porn pictures. Now which of us is going to defend the guy who has 1000's of kiddy porn pics on his hard drive? Might he have been framed? Will the jury convict? The idea is that it is EASIER to plant evidence in the world of electronic file transfer than it was through the mail. Physical evidence of wrongdoing isn't even necessary. Just electrons shooting through a wire and all of a sudden your guilty. Again, I'm not saying that this is anyone's intent or that we should be worried about this happening to us. Just that it is a possibility, and that if someone was in a position to misuse the power and wanted to, it would be relatively easy to do so. -

Strut Sectioning Question
JMortensen replied to SSflyer's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I think it is already pretty safe to say that Dan isn't going to want a Koni 8610. Probably the Tokico Blue or Illumina. If you go Illuminas Dan the BZ3099 fits in the front and if you ask for 240 fronts they fit in the rear. No one has said this with regards to the original question, but I just thought I would point out that if you use the same strut cartridge front and rear you need the spacer in the back because the strut tube is longer in the back. If you sectioned the front and rear so that they both fit the insert, then the only way to get the ride height level would be to run the rear spring perches much higher on the threaded adjuster than the fronts. Much better to have both sitting in about the same position and have more adjustment available in both directions, especially if you actually intend to change the ride height frequently. -

OK let me relate to you the situation which I personally saw over months and years of employment in a sales job: When I was 17-19, I worked for Ronco, Inc. You know, the Pocket Fisherman, GLH (Great Looking Hair), now he's got that rotisserie thingy. "Just set it--AND FORGET IT!" You know who I mean. Anyway we had at least 1/2 of the sales force that was either not working for sales or not claiming sales on their paycheck because they'd be bumped into the next tax bracket and make LESS money than if they didn't make the sales. This was a bottom of the barrel job to be sure, but even at this level people were aware and would do whatever they could to get out of a higher tax rate, despite the damaging effect it had on the business as a whole. Taxes CAN stifle business, and it's not as theoretical as you would make it out to be. -

True, but the profit motive gets A LOT STRONGER, which can drive sales and trade up, which brings in more tax thru sales tax (local) and income tax. Just because a lower percentage will get paid to the govt doesn't mean the govt will get less money. -

Cygnus, those cliches mean that people will need to die fighting for our continued freedom, not that people need to subjugate themselves to the will of the govt to ensure the continued "freedom". -

I would guess (and it is just a guess) that this has more to do with the exhaust valve size than anything else. Again we would have to have an impossible level of proof to say one way or the other. Could be that the E88 guy had .002 looser main bearings than the closest E31 guy, and the reduced friction in the bottom end made the difference. We don't even know the setup of the car vs his nearest E31 competitor. Racing is what you can put to the ground, not what the engine can produce. Plus neither of these engines is prone to pinging anyway, so the only thing missed out on in this situation is the compression and the tumble of the mixture due to quench. That very well may be made up for by the exhaust valve size. Maybe it was the same engine with two different heads in the above example. Doesn't really matter. The valve sizes being different is a pretty big disparity. BTW--I have one of those open chamber E88s. If you want to buy a "race proven" head, just let me know. So again, no real significance in that one... -

Also Wheelman, don't both parties getting an email have to have a PGP key to use PGP? I fooled around with it briefly, but I honestly don't recall. That kinda limits who you can send encrypted email to. -

OK, well that's good advice on how to KEEP the govt from reading email. That doesn't address whether they SHOULD be reading email in the first place. Not true. You can put a 135K image on a website, and display it as a 1x1 pixel image. It will be there, it will load into the cache, and you won't see it for what it really is. As far as deletion, you should already know that nothing gets deleted unless you have written over it. I know you can set Linux up to do this automatically, but then it slows your computer down A LOT because it's doing so much work to keep the drive clean while you're working. Not sure how available these types of tools are for Windows, but I can tell you that just having the Auto-Protect feature of NAV on my 2000 machine was too much hassle for me, and I can only assume that writing 1's and 0's on the disk freespace would be worse. Remember, we're talking about what is POSSIBLE. It is POSSIBLE that anyone could get railroaded by an overzealous prosecutor for having illegal images on their computer. That's what he took issue with. Not that it was likely that a jury would convict, only that it was possible to bring charges. -

No I'm not kidding unfortunately. Some of my closest friends have gone absolutely nuts in the past few years and now believe that Bush is out to get us, to start WWIII, to turn the US into a police state, etc etc etc. I'm not one of these people, but I know quite a few of them and they were what I would consider rational only a few years ago. Don't fool yourself by thinking that no one believes Michael Moore's BS or no one questions Bush's motives. That's my point previous to the one I quoted. At the time I had just looked up a whole series of bad things in order to make a point (like terrorist stuff, nazi stuff, anarchist cookbook types of things, etc). If that establishes a pattern, then who knows??? Maybe they were looking at me... I'm not saying the laws shouldn't change, but that there should be someone who understands the technology developing the new laws. Kinda funny... that buddy I was talking to who gave me those 4 points... we used to work together. He is an IT freakin genius. We had the same bosses at that job who were totally compuer illiterate. Funniest thing was when he got his reviews and raises. They basically had to ask him if he was doing a good job and then take his word when he said he was. They were in charge of his governance at that position but had no idea what the hell he was doing. It's a similar situation now with the govt passing these laws. Agreed. Although if I were rating Bush's presidency I'd probably only give him a B, not an A+. -

You clearly have people from all political persuasions (left, right and freaky) arguing against the Patriot Act in this post. I don't think anyone is denying that the act is intended to save innocent lives. We're just more wary of the potential abuses than you are. As far as comparing to a previous freedom-degrading threat, here is my post from another previous Patriot Act thread. You can see that my problem is with the technology that they are allowed to use to snoop and particularly email (which many would argue is the most benign part of the act): -
OT, but that's always been part of the conservative agenda IME.

Bolting the tank to the head is going to heat up the fuel. Not a good idea. Getting rid of the stock fuel rail and fuel pump cured my vapor lock issues, if that puts it in perspective at all. I suppose you could put it on the fenderwell. Even so, you're going to have a high pressure pump feeding your surge tank, which is not necessary. Why not just put it back by the tank and use a little carby pump to fill it?

Here I was thinking I was done.... If you look at some of the links that I listed and that last one that DAW put up, you'll see that there is an almost universal combustion chamber shape for 2 valve heads. Looks like a heart shape, my 510 buddies always called them the "peanut" chambers. I have seen some heads from the worst of the smog years like the later E88 and the N42/47 that didn't use that shape, but engines made at that time were also some of the lowest output engines in recent history. That's the truth, regardless of what head you used to build your race engine. What's also true is that you can make as much power with the open chamber shape. You can machine your pistons for quench, and they'll end up making that peanut shape in the top of the piston instead of the head. But for those not machining pistons you'll be better off starting with the best chamber shape. My point is and has been that this peanut shape is damn near UNIVERSAL. So when Tim and Dan say that I have no proof because it hasn't been tried on an L series, or the P head in particular, to me that is just like saying (as I mentioned in a previous post) that I hadn't tried upping the compression in my engine, but I did and voila!!! More power!!! You don't need to prove that upping compression is going to increase the power, and likewise quench has been similarly proven. Dan's argument was that you can't quantify the quench, and I think that this is probably an untrue statement, but I don't have any proof that you can, at least not that Dan would accept. This thread has degenerated really badly (first time I've been called a liar), posts here are mostly better than this one unless you're in the Non-Tech Board arguing politics. Do your own research. Don't listen to me, or DAW, and definitely don't listen to Dan or Tim... -

The intent of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform law was to prevent soft money having such a huge influence on presidential election. Intent may give you warm fuzzies, but it doesn't fix the problem. If there is a loophole, someone is going to exploit it. Wouldn't be the first time G-Men wearing dresses abused their power... -
I've seen it too, and if yours passes inspection that might be all that matters to you. Maybe I'm just more nervous about gas than I need to be, but the original idea of a 20 oz CO2 canister underneath is a better one IMHO. It's that whole burn unit thing... :flamedevil: My wife was working in the childrens' burn ward at a hospital here in Seattle up until a couple weeks ago so I've been a little more aware as of late.

That surge tank idea scares me Pete. How much gas you got in there, 1/2 gallon? Fire suit or not I wouldn't want to have that much gas in the cabin with me in an accident situation. It's unnecessarily large and should be under the deck IMO.
