  1. That's way cool wheelman! Some of my best kid memories are hanging out in the garage, helping my Dad with his cars. It's been almost 40yrs now and those days are still able to inspire me. Yor Son, if not now, will be stoked years from now. Hopefully he will pass the tradition of wrenching on to the next generation. I have been able to share this with my Jr. and It don't get too much better than that!
  2. Thank you Tim great info, will call about the turbo pump
  3. The stock 280 fuel pump puts out 36.3psi. So, if the MSD 2225 puts out 43psi. supporting a 500hp motor, will the stock 280 pump be enough for the LT-1 300+hp? Is that 6.7psi difference between the two pumps equal to approx 200hp? I figure backing off or eliminating that stock damper that looks like a diaphramed regulator would give enough fuel at WOT with the stock 28lb/hr chevy injectors. Allthough the service manual states 45psi at WOT. I'd hate to get into lean firing at the high end. Might be worth the $80 for the MSD. What do you guys think?
  4. Superbly stated, You Go Bro! Yea what he said! Thanks for setting the standards above average, as it should be!
  5. Great info, Visual info allways seems to penetrate my numb-skull much easier! Thanks.
  6. A few years ago my younger brother takes his nissan into the local Tune&Lube for service. He requests the tires be rotaited. Unknown to the fellow at the garage my bro marks the front tire with an inkpen. When he returns to pick up the car he asks if the tires got rotaited? Kind-a anoied the guy said yea they did. My bro ain't no wrench turner (I think he maybe mechinacaly chalenged) but he's no dummy. He asks the guy again, are you sure they rotaited the tires? The guy insists "Yea I did it myself!" he snaps at my little bro. He then asks to see the manager. The guy still don't know about the pen mark on the front tire. When the truth was revealed the manager was real apologetic and offered my bro some free-bies. He declined and took his car else where. Morale of the story... It pays to d it yourself and or buyer beware!
  7. Here is what I came up with; from the hub mounting surface under load (or in the normal ride position) measuring stright-up and then out to the inner fenderwell, then into what would be the lower spring pearch (or the area where the tire/wheel would make contact) 3.5"-outer 7.5" inner. Combine these two values, minus approx 1" or 25.4mm which leaves approx 1/2" in and 1/2" out clearance. then minus another 1" for the tire from the wheel bulge. Again approx 1/2" for both in and out. So what we now have is a 9"wheel, down from an 11"clearance with an approx 10" tire. With a wheel center of 4.5" Outer clearance is 2.5" and inner in 6.5" this gives it a 2" positive offset. Please correct me if I'm missing something. Thanks for the feedback.
  8. With a 7" wheel front and a 4"backspace, what would this translate into in terms of metric off-set in mm? Same question for a 9" wheel with a 5 1/2" backspace.
  9. I've got 2 complete sets of aluminum mid 1970's Western style wheels and tires. I'd be willing to give someone here a sweet deal on-em.
  10. Most of what you will need to know (if not all) can probably be found in previous posts related to that area of your project. JTR makes a decent swap manual for the V8Z swap (not LS1 specific although very informative) Read, search this and various related sites, read some more, then search again and read some more. A smart man once told me, "The amount of time spent in uncertainty, is inversely related to the amount of time dedicated to research." Thanks Pops! You've hit a Gold mine here at Hybrid-Z. Start digging, it will pay off!
  11. Is 43 enough to be an old guy? WetTowed the Z over to SanMarcos this after noon for interior Rino-liner coating spray. The prep was a _itch to get all that old tar-like mat up. Will post picts soon. The roll cage is welded in and looks good. lots of progress to report. The exhaust is a work of art. Pick it up tomorrow afternoon. Very exciting!
  12. That's cool. If I weren't running the opti-spark, I'd seriously consider that Dist!
  13. Trouble is, what is the intent of the law? IMO we (the People) especially in the great state of Cal, 8) have allowed the environemental lobby to become rediculously out of control or, way too extreme! I'm all for preserving the environment, heck I'm a sufer-dude. But when the components you've got under the hood become the focal point, something is seriously wrong! I took my 75' in for smog-cert (at the referee) a few years ago, even though I passed the tailpipe part of the test, I was not issued tags because I failed the visual! Whats-up-with-that? If the whole intent of the law is to reduce vechicle emissions, what do they care how thats achieved? But than again what do you expect from Government? Sorry for the rant, thanks for letting me vent.
  14. mas280, not yet. Any tips other than read the JTR-Helm-and-service manuals? I have all 3 and have reviewed them however, I've herd estimates for first-timers-wiring are any where from 40-60hrs and then less than half that for subsiquent swaps.
  15. Hope to have it running by July 23rd for daughter's wedding up in Bakersfield (hot) Oh and those cinder blocks are solid filled with 1/2" rebar and 6-sack concrete mix (leftover from a structural foundation pour), plenty strong!
  16. The headers are from Street and Performance. Jet coated in and out. I'll attempt to post picts. smaller ones ha,ha.
  17. Wed 5/26 pulled L28, Thur 5/27 prep/paint eng-bay, Fri 5/28 insert LT1-T56. Little by little. Thanks to all you who have been their B4 me.
  18. LT-1/T-56 are in! Got the L-28 out on Wed. preped/painted the eng-bay Thurs. 94-Vet motor put in yesterday! A little bit of banging with a big-old hammer and she slid right on-in. I'll get some picts posted tonight.
  19. One word? Lo-jack. For 4 to 5 hundred $ (depending on who does the install) then sleep well every night. 1-800-456-5225. A few years back here in San Diego, a Monster-Miyata (hybrid) was recovered just South of the US/MEX border. They were striping it inside a house in Tijuana.
  20. Like 240Z2NV mentioned, I also took some off the mid-80s RX-7. Both mirrors all the controls and wires from the pick-a-part set me back only about $25.00. I'll be posting pics of the instal along with the entire conversion here soon.
  21. I purchased off ebay a 94'LT-1/ZF-6 with 60k miles (verified by car-fax) from Chris Carol Corvette in Georgia. Also off ebay a brand new 94' T-56, from Rodney Mathewes in Newcastle Indiana. Both these guys are a ways away from here in San Diego. No remorse in eather case. Beginers luck maybe. Chances are these cyber-merchants won't screw you for fear of negative buyer feedback however, do some research on the seller and you should be good to go.
  22. Not exactly sure what info your seeking, try the Quaife' website. They have a pricy unit, which senses which wheel is recieving more power, then biases the torque from that side. As far as specifics go, I suppose going into detail would be disclosing trade secrets?
  23. If its a GM trany, I just removed the VSS off my brand new T56 to convert over to a direct drive type speed-o. Any of the old parts you need for that pulse sensor/electronic arrangement I'll let you steal from me dirt cheap.
  24. I wonder how much more air if any, that extra blade on the Tarus fan would pull (cfm)? assuming both speeds on the motors are the same. The bases of the Tempo blades seem wider so, perhaps none. I'm curious as to the blade pitch differences between the two.
