  1. Wipers? You mean those long black rubber/metal things at the base of the windshield obstructing the view? I just tore em' off threw em'away, and welded the holes closed. I can see the road much better now.
  2. Have you tried the folks over at S&P? They are quite knowlegeable in the area of LT-1&4 / LS-1&6
  3. Anybody hear of HID-Xenon light conversions at iguanamotors.com? I was considering this type of upgrade.
  4. Home lighting circuts such as ON-OFF switches, could these be considered a possible ignition source for Ka-BOOM?!?
  5. Thanks for the encouragement guys, Still waiting for the wheels from Budnik. The sales staff left us with the impression that all the wheels were being cut in house, thus avoiding the notorious backorder dilemma. Not just a wheel supplier/brokers but rather a wheel manufacturer. We here in So-Cal, are all too aware of a common big business practice of out-sourcing much of the labor to our neighbors South of the border. As economical as it may be, we wanted to keep the cash this side of TJ. Prior to the purchase, I was told 4wk-max turn around! 5wks later, I'm told 4-6wk turn around, with an appology. 6-1/2wks from the original contract date, I get the 3 more wks due to back order story. So now I'm 2+wks into this 3wk extended-extension and getting a bit miffed. I've put a deposit down of 50% to begin the transaction through a local Discount Tire center. The guys at the tire shop have been pretty cool in that the manager actually came to my house to measure when he heard what we were building. I'm woundering, if after the 3wk extension and the wheels are still not done, should I request some kind of compensation? They (Budnik) have this way cool steering wheel for $250 on their web-site. I been thinkn' maybe... What do you guys think?
  6. Think I'll hook like 10 of them in series, (as a gag) and tell anyone who asks, that its the latest in alternitave fueled vehicles or in tech terms, They are the new EV fuel-cells, hydrogen recirc DC suplimental storage and supply system. ha-ha-ha! I may just catch one....till someone asks "how exactly does it work?" then I'd fess-up.
  7. Some Guy on this site is putting a beamer engine ito his Z.
  8. More on like, Driver blows brain cells. Dooh?!
  9. Welcome here fellow Z-er. First thing (and this depends on where in the world you are) the state of Cal requires all 1976 and newer vehicles to have Smog-Certs. If you aren't required to pass smog, then check for structural reinforcements inside and beneath. See how the tranny x-member is attached. Also check how far back (close to the firewall) the engine has been placed. Most of it comes down to your better judgement. If you have a buddy who knows both ends of a wrench, bring him or her along to do the pre-sale assesment. Sometimes a friend will notice something or, raise a question we would otherwise overlook (maybe cause were too busy drooling) 2+2 huh? IMO when you begin carrying passengers, you've crossed that invisible line between sportscar and sedan. 2 door 4 seater? Would that be like a 4door 2 seater? Just my worthless 0.02! Welcome again, lots of great info here, along with some occational scarcasam. (my lame attempts at humor)
  10. I'll bet those guys go through some tires huh? Looks like major fun. kinda like fullsize gocarts! No wonder that sport is gaining so much momentum.
  11. Been about 4+months since my inital post with mock-up picts. Here is where I am (picts soon to follow...tomorrow) 94' LT-1 vette motor on a beefed-up T-56 w/16lb Fidanza flywheel. 7/8" Tilton clutch to stock slave is blead and feels great. B&M short-throw shifter with Hursts' white on black 6speed ball-knob. Stock r-200 rear 3:54 gears to the Quaife posi. mounted under the rigid brace with the tranny-mount (replacing the stock rubber strap). S&P jet coated headers into dual Flowmaster 2 chamber exh 2.5" w/crossover (no cats). 13" 5-lug 4-wheel disc conversion Willwood calipers from Dave at AZ-Z. 225lb. coilovers. Willwood proportioning valve and rear line-lock replaces e-brake. MSA swaybars, all new bushings. Glossy black Rhino-linered the whole interior and all the way up the inside firewall (should be good sound deadeing, and thermal barrier). 8point roll-cage. Front strut towers three-way 3/8" aluminum custom support brace. (with lightening holes). Polished aluminum ideler pully brackets. Turns out the new positions of the aux components (A/C comp & alt) are placed so the stock-length serpentine belt will be used. Not planned that way, just so happened! Took a Denso alt from the JY off a Yota Creseda (cause its smaller) and had it rewound to put out a whopping 145+amps, from the 50 or so stock. Whats left to do...Upper Rad-mount, complete the wiring and fire it up! Ordered custom wheels from Budnik. Originally we were told turn around of approx 4wks well, that was 7+wks ago. 18x7 up front 18x9 rear. About to cancle the order due to bogus business practice. I was told by a sales rep that all machining was done localy in-house (or so we were led to believe) It is soooo close now, but I gave up on putting a deadline on this project as it allways gets bumped up! Family, my other job, and life in general. You who have been there know what I mean. Thanks guys for all the help and support. This site Rocks!
  12. 3am, I'm at work thinking how cool a personalized license plate would look. So I go to the DMV's web site and start entering some ideas like; IXLR8, ZYAL8ER, V8Z etc... alot of the possible ones I've tried have been issued, then the light goes on. According to Merriam Webster's Collegiate (tenth edition) page-768. A significant and basic alteration or change. What is a mutation Alex? You are correct. Another 8-12 wks and, Bling-bling. The DMV will be calling me, to come pick up the new plates they have assigned to my..."MUTANT Z" Yeah!!!
  13. Thanks for all the input. 80LT1 makes a good point in that when replacing A/C plumbing the hose material must be able to contain the refrigrant. It is all copper except the two hoses on the compressor and yes they are barrier type. Just beacuse its steelbraided and crimped dosen't mean it will hold refrigerant. The guys at Crown hose pros explained this. Got the new reciever/dryer from autoparts store and, Dan provided an exelent test sequence via PM. Thanks again Dan. This site and you guys ROCK!
  14. Thanks for the input. will get the flush kit and replace that reciever/dryer. BTW all fittings are 45deg. flair. No line O-rings.
  15. TIG lays cleaner for stainless however you can back-gas the MIG. Foot pedal control and seperate feed with TIG. also greater cost on TIG. It all boils down to how much are you willing to $pend?
  16. I took both ends to a local driveline shop, yoke from the Tremec. Frank at Vista Driveline hooked me right-up. All he needed to know was what rear-diff we were running and how long from u-joint center to u-joint center. 19.5 for this one. (LT-1/T-56 to R-200) A good shop will be able to connect just about anything, to almost anything else.
  17. I'm sticking with the stock 1975 280 A/C set-up evap condenser and reciever/dryer. The only major component replaced will be the compressor. The stock Vette/Denso unit will be used on this LT-1. My question (after researching all previous posts using the search function re: airconditioning) is what method and or product would be best for flushing out the old R-12 tainted oil from the evap/condenser? The reciever dryer has been exposed over time so the desicant may be exhausted? Should this component be replaced to accept the new R-134A? The compressor was an R-134A system. I know of the corossive potential associated with mixing these two different type refrigerants especially on compressor seals/O-rings. Also I remember reading somewhere about an alternative refrigerant? Any help here would be cool. (couldn't resist that one) Thanx guys.
  18. My 0.02 Hide the mounting fasteners on the four corners. Might shrink the borders thus increasing venting area. Nice rectangle-angle, Center emblem is ok, maybe circle that center emblem rather than the band. Maybe instead of holes, how about interlocking Zs. I'm sure a CNC laser could zap an awesome pattern. I agree with innerware, could loose the grooves (a little too bussy, all those different paterns). Nice work! keep it up.
  19. If you plan on 10sec 1/4ml times, track officals may prohibit you from using the IRS. My guess... 200lbs on that Supra rearend.
  20. As kids we were jumping off the car-port with a big beach umbrella when my younger brother wanted a go, we told him he was too light and could blow away. So he goes and gets one of those little folding ones and attempts it. When that thing folds straght up, he plunges like a rock. My cousin and I were laughing our heads off, till we got our bottoms warmed with the fragments of that umbrella.
  21. Welcome 240zoom, Looking very nice and clean for mock-up. Can't wait to see final fitment. You're right on about those BMW oil systems. The Mrs. drives nothing but BMWs and I've been amazed at those engines! Over 100k mls and no oil leaks? I couldn't believe it, if I hadn't seen it for myself. Those motors are awesome. Good choice and good luck. Thanks for hooking up here and sharing the project. Lots of info in previous posts on this site, glad to see you here.
  22. I went with the wilwood set-up from Dave at arizonazcar and was very pleased with the quality. Have not op-tested them yet but, by the looks and I know (looks can be decieving) these components should be more than sufficent.
  23. I couldn't agree more. My Dad held a seat back in the early-mid 60's (local district on the Big Island of Hawaii) Some young UH grad thought he might-could make a difference. He was so disgusted with his frat bros from college (also politicans) trying to buy him with "perks" and "benies" when he wrote his state senator (Dan Inoye) before (becomming a congressman) to reveal the coruption, his letters fell on deaf ears. Health care in my home state of Hawaii is such that if you work you have health care. (HMSA) Hawaii medical service association says to employers, "You cover those employees" Dosen't matter if you work 4hrs a week or 40hrs, if you're on someone's payrole you have medical benifits. The former Clinton administration (Mrs. Hillary) was going to use this HMSA program as an example for the rest of the country untill it was presented to the powers that be in D.C. Similarly some welfare reform programs in other States (I believe it was Minisota or Michigan) very successfull, was also to be used as an example for how to get results. Untill, yup, you guessed it! till it hit the floor in D.C. What dose any of this have to do with HybridZ? That Smog repeal proposal in the announcements on this/our sites Home page. I maybe just one voice and I may have just one vote but, If I don't voice or give up that vote, what right do I have to complain?
  24. Chris, Tim is right. It all boils down to how good you want to look going fast. I haven't even fired-up yet and I'm aproaching the $10k mark. What started out as a simple swap, has swiftly snowballed into a complete renovation. Welcome aboard and good luck to you. You have definately found the right site. Tons of great info and expierence in the Forums. (using the search feature) These guys here on HybridZ, are the bomb!
