  1. Yeah, you have to wonder sometimes... Here's some more info from another forum. Now the word is a car lost a wheel. http://corner-carvers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24343
  2. Just a little more info. The red Vette, #21, is a Yard Racing car. I worked with them at that track a few years ago. There is a black Vette with red striping on top in another photo that also theirs. Earlier this spring, they lost a low serial # (something like #36) Shelby Mustang in a real bad reck. I think the driver may still be healing from that one. I have to wonder if they'll decide to hang it up after this.
  3. I've actually gotten into this argument before. The guy I was wasting my time with heard throttle body and immediately thought of his GM car with throttle body injection. I've had good luck lately with Napa, but where it's just luck of the draw with what kind of person is behind the counter. Many years ago when I got my first Z, it didn't have an exhaust when I bought it and I wanted to have a larger custom bent on put on, called a local shop... mufflerguy: I can get you a nice "cat-back" system. me: It didn't come with a cat mufflerguy: What year is it? me: '77 mufflerguy: It came with one. me: The DMV and the dealer both said it didn't come with one mufflerguy: They're dead wrong. me: ok, bye
  4. I wasn't there to see it, but it doesn't look pretty. Talk about an expensive pile up. Apparently someone missed a shift at the start. The word is no serious injuries. http://www.pbase.com/atrltd/bric2005
  5. This is a continuation of a thread not too long ago. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=99949 This is off of Arizona Zcar's web site:
  6. I put a variant of Hurculiner on my floor boards, called Vitaliner, bought from JC Whitney. I only put 2 coats on as opposed to 3, called for, and I have a very hard time beleiving that it's heavier than carpeting. Plus, it's only applied in on the floor board itself and the rest is trunk paint. I'm very pleased with it. The Vitaliner is water soluble, easier to apply, and has better traction than the Herculiner.
  7. I'm a bit surprised by this thread, this stuff is old news. You can probably find all the info with a search. I should have said less desirable. The "a" model has ratio's which aren't as close as the "b", with a larger gap between 2nd and 3rd. With that said, I had a '77 with the "a" trans and didn't mind it too much. 77-79 1980 81-83 1 3.321 3.062 3.062 2 2.077 1.858 1.858 3 1.308 1.308 1.308 4 1.000 1.000 1.000 5 0.864 0.773 0.745
  8. The '79 280ZX trans is the "a" model, the same as in the '77 and '78, and not disirable. The 4 speed shifter arm will work in later trans.
  9. I've got a fever, and the only cure is more blue Z.
  10. I had both a header for the Z and another set for my truck coated at Jet Hot. A year later both of them looked like the one above, but not quite as bad. I ended up selling both vehicles and never bothered with the warranty.
  11. It's been a while since I've looked at the GCR and it shows...the ECU change is news to me, as well as the seat back. I did have an autopower cage in my first Z ('77), and was happy with the fitment.

    Surprise!

' Maybe he sent himself home for the day. My guess is he hit something...
  13. Autopower makes a decent bolt in cage that's SCCA legal. I guess any racing seat which has high sides and a rather tight fit is good. Less you have to brace yourself and more to concentrate on the road. Kirkey seats seem to be the best bang for the buck, but I beleive the rules say the back of the seat must be braces then as well. There are several "universal" products which bolt to the cross-bar on the cage which do this. The only way you can run any other ECU is by cheating, and it's probably been done. I've heard of stories where there will be another ECU hidden under the dash that the driver can switch over, or something to that effect. I also remember reading in the Top End Performance catalogue about running a switch to the cold start valve and turning that on at higher RPM's, which is also not legal.
  14. That does sound cheap. On kind of a side note, I seem to remember back in the beginning of the IZCC days there was a guy who did the Rover (215 Olds) conversion. The end result did not save him much weight over a SBC and parts were pricey. EDIT: did a search on the 215 and as I expected there were a lot of threads already. Anyways point being it wouldn't be too bad installing it, aside a possible lack of room.
  15. On a Sunday afternoon we tried this on my friends '76, but kept the stock bumper on. From what I remember, you could compress them after removing the screw, but they would still spring back out. We ended up having one person hold it in and the other ran a self tapper through the shock body/tube. It worked pretty good, but try and cover the area being drilled or you'll get sprayed with oil...found that out the hard way.
  16. I'm running the Electromotive DIS and have the distributor hole blocked off as well. I was worried about the same thing, and before assembly I cut off the rod just above the larger diameter portion which rides in the front cover. Maybe it's nothing to be concerned about, but I could see it whipping around at higher RPM's. Besides, it took about 2 min. to do.
  17. Somebody did do it. There was a 240 on Ebay a little while back which was built for bio-diesel advertisment purposes. I'll see if I can find it. EDIT: Did a google search. Found some stuff. Here's the car, but no pics and the Ebay link is too old: http://greenyes.grrn.org/2004/09/msg00087.html Here's some older pics of what I beleive is the same car: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v356/aceracergofast/IMAGE00311111111.jpg
  18. Make it like this one! But seriously, keep in mind if you plan on doing any type of sanctioned racing be sure to check the rule book out. I have heard of cases where an SCCA caged car didn't pass NHRA tech, etc.
  19. There's one currently on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4557550118&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
  20. There has been other posts about clearance issues and running the 38mm valves as opposed to the 35's. I've never used 38's, but I guess you can get away with recutting the the stock seat, but the valves have a tendency to interfere with the cylinder walls, they have to be notched. EDIT: Also, I ordered a set and will let you guys know how they are.
  21. Thought I'd let you guys know about this. Seems to be a really good, if not too good, of a deal. I'm not sure how many he has in stock, but this is the 2nd auction that he's had for these. 44mm int, 38mm exh. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33621&item=7982287374&rd=1
  22. You'd think with all that tubing he would have a better spot to mount the shoulder harness straps other than the floor.
  23. I would definetly do more research first. If you suspect it's a head gasket, a simple compression, or leak down test will most likely determine that. You mentioned fluid in the rack. My first thought would be a water pump. When the bearings start to go, fluid comes out of the "seep hole" on the bottom.
