  1. Great pitorial JOEL !! I'm more and more happy I picked up a later R33 BCNR every thread ! Now If I can just find the time to enjoy it ? ................Vinny 8)
  2. Nice-nice -nice.....Chris !! Looks even BETTER than I invisioned it would be. You've done alot of thinking on the whole theme since I saw it in the garage last when Mike(ON3GO) and I had come over for some of your good cookin' ! And thanks again for that. I may be back down in Houston again in a few weeks...I'll try to hook up with you crazies again ! Congrats on your progress.............Vinny 8)
  3. "but in my home town everyone steers way clear of me anyway cause I'm so damn ugly, so I haven't needed to." LMAO.........Hmmm,I'm getting a funny feeling thats the REAL reason for me too !lol. I love those events alot, hell my jaw is sore the next day from the intensity just viewing them. I've been in "Pai Lum Kung Fu" since 6th grade ( my dad thought I needed the extra discipline ) thanks dad, really ! I got into Mui'Tai eventually for the occasional "bar fight over now" methods. That will get you sued yesturday,so I don't even go anymore. But these channels are exellent for those of us who have deep seated prob........wait,I mean deep or strong passions to beat the living sh.........uh ,er ..never mind. Any way ,I had never had my *** kicked good ,I thought I was ready for for all unexpected situations, anything life could throw at me ......but as every dog has his day.......after my Fiance's funeral by a few weeks.....I found myself a little beyond drunk with no dinner in my diabetic body ....walked around the corner of a van and as I looked up from pulling my keys from my pocket....BAM ! I had just got the front of my face crushed to the eye's orbital floor by a 4"x4" fence post. I won't EVEN go into the damage ...but if you have to choose a definate weapon out of a pile to fight with no skills ,pick up that 4x4......I woke up 26 minutes later to a pint of blood pooled around my head and running into crevices. Every dog has his day.......never found out who or what the hell that person was up to....perhaps that guy you kicked his *** 12 years before and he never let it go ? What doesent kill you..................... Vinny
  4. Completely functional.........factory style sub-frame,mount points (no pin-on),and factory latch point. Not to mention the induction opening for cooling. The optional relief vents (two of them near the cowl) will be fully functional as well......and they look killer (IMO). Sort of a JGTC style would describe . So stay tuned and thanks goes to Marcus for being cooperative. .......................Vinny 8)
  5. Whew !.....I'm glad no one on HBZ bought that steel hood. I gave my word not to talk about what was in the works til later. What has transpired is that several months ago( its been in Springfield,Mo. since the first hood thread !) Marcus and I thought his hood ,(known as the "WARRIOR" from this point forward) (because he's a soldier) Would be a good alternate design for our Hybrid Z's and made in Carbon Fiber. The pre-molds have been done for awhile ( I managed to work on them between delays in the CF tail panels) and I'll pick back up on it as time permits, but NOT before everyone has their tail panels in CF. So as it stands,I'll post a dedicated thread for a group buy when its appropriate. For those who have previously requested "this very thing" ...just email me and I'll hold that order of the previous thread. Everyone else interested do the same, first come fist served of course. Prices and build details to come....this will be a super light and stupid stout hood for certain. I also have a vented version of it we can vote on ! Pix to surface soon.......................Vinny VTZ 8)
  6. Congrats to Marcus on the sale of that hybrid steel hood ! Seemed to be well sought after...over 6 bills, nice ! Marcus ,how many people were watching your auction ,if I'm not being too nosey ? lol. ..............Vinny 8)
  7. Isaac, I've worked hundreds of hours with the stuff! I have an Artist background and used to do alot of small (12"-20" ) and Medium (21"-48") sculptures that were later Eurothane molded and done into Cast stone. I still use it frequently even in Mock up situations. I've been in Martial arts since I was a boy,and some of the fundamentals my Sensae' (sp:) taught us was "GRIP" exercises to the max. It came in handy for sure later in life in more ways than I can count.....including manipulating/softening modeling clays (as much as 200lbs) That stuff is heavy like Mama's meatloaf gone bad ! Anyway, enough rant........the clay has natural oils that when stable/still cross bond the clays base materials. To knead and bend the clay reactivates these oils and of course the temperature from your hands will aid the breakdown. As the clay cools and is left idle, you will notice it becomes firmer as the hours pass. But will not turn to brick hard, unless its exposed to sunlight or left to completly dry out.(not good) In automotive stylizing, its wise to use back fill materials to build up and use the clay for the more detailed areas. By filler I mean ANYTHING stable once taped, glued, screwed etc.....so the clay won't be forced to move because the back fill is unstable. When your done with the basic shape in clay, let it stablize for a day or so ...then come back and tool it to perfection. I have many specific carving tools ,some bought at a Artists merchant...some home made for personal styles/techniques. You can use a heat gun to pre- heat the clay...beware ...to handle it after that can give severe deep heat soak burns due to the clays nature to insulate and draw heat inward. Knock yourself out and enjoy. Kung Fu grip coming soon ! lol .............Vinny 8)
  8. If need be ...you can use a engine hoist with the chains going down to the strut towers attatched by bolts and washers (and of course nuts too !) The lift is positioned on one side and the rotiserrie at the end of the car. Now I did this with the hatch and hood removed of course. Otherwise if your wrist is in a cast, you'll just have to use a floor jack and a pile of boards along with jackstands.......raise the car as high as the stands will go.Then let the jack down and stack a bunch of boards or railroad tie stubs and hope they push her up high enough......but the engine hoist works sweet and safe.(for those of you with family) ..................Vinny
  9. Beautimus !! Terry ...see if you can drive you and your wife up to Branson Missouri the 18th -22nd of May, for the Branson Z Fest.? Everyone would love to see your killer machine.! Google it and you'll see all the stuff they are doing that week for the Z enthusiasts and family ...if ya' bring them too. Once again............yours is a standard now for Hybrid Z's to try and reach ! .................Vinny 8)
  10. I've got one setting inside its mold. I always leave a "parent part" resting in the molds until I pull more parts. But it will be late Summer before I make any more. Its the same style as the MSA Aero rear F40 they had in their catalogue. Is this the same thing your inquiring about ? If so ,I'll post about it when I get them going again, but it will be later on. No hard feelings if you drum one up sooner ,of course. Vinny 8)
  11. Gents...........thats your basic everyday NISMO graphic ! ..........Vinny
  12. Hahaha...Holy Crap.......Bart ,I was reading your post and scrolling down slowly ,the BOOM...there's your head ! Kinda freaked me out .LOL. Go with the reality one. Less is better in this situation for sure. ...............Vinny
  13. I Did finishes for high end cars and show cars for 23 years professionally. Please save your frustration and time.............Wetsand only the areas that are heavy with texture ,then Scotchbrite the rest and BE DETAILED ABOUT IT ! All of the areas, not just some. THEN RE-SHOOT your clear with the proper air settings and get it right ! Take some time and shoot a test panel until you KNOW that your gun is good to go ! You'll thank me I assure you. You'll only need a pint of clear to re-do it. Use a small jamb gun if need be, so its easier to handle. And remember....once all the engine and firewall, fenderwell componets are in place ......very little can be seen well ! The only other advice to say if you don't like the prior...........think of the areas that ACTUALLY will be seen....sand ONLY those areas and polish them out good and move on. Whew,OK...........................Vinny
  14. You should be in a better mood now Clint ! lol. That baby oughta' hook up better than Paris hilton on any nite ! Hey ,next time you shoot pix in a cave ...buy one of those cameras that have a friggin' FLASH !! lol. Post a pix of your new JAPANIMAL RB motor. ..........Vinny 8)
  15. If for some reason more than 8-12 hours has passed (loss of chemical bond) after shooting your base, you'll to need to lightly scuff with a Scotchbrite "GREY" hand pad.(DO NOT SKIP CLEARING) Have you sanded your epoxy primer in the bay with 400-600 grit to get the needed mechanical bond ? Do a great job sanding and cleaning before you spray base. You don't want to stir up dust or find primer flaes AFTER you base. Then your clear will look great. Also remember that the air settings are DIFFERENT from base to clear too. Use a panel test till your certain your spray patterns are proper. A smaller "Jamb HVLP" gun is best suited for these tight quarters. I ACTUALLY raise the car on jackstands and then I stand in the middle of the engine bay and do a 360 degree attack. This way you can kneel and squat to evenly get EVERYWHERE .And at different levels you'll see so much more. I duct tape a florescant light to the chest of my Tyvek suit.Read "no hands". I have a small table set up just outside the radiator support with everything in reach for ALL steps and clean-up . GOOD LUCK.............plan and concentrate,it'll be great ! ..............Vinny 8)
  16. I've got a bunch of gauge pods and pillars just waiting for the Z mock up for CF(carbon fiber) .....I'm not sure which sizes I have there for the project. I also have the gauge pod mocked up nicely on top(sunk) into the steering column cover. I guess it could be made to hold as big as 2 5/8's and have extra area to trim for that. Would fit smaller ones as well ! I mess with them while waiting for Epoxy to kick.........we'll see how far along I get with them if your interested ? ................Vinny
  17. AMEN to that JamieT, I'll buy it if its GOOD, I'll make it if it's BETTER ! lol. But throwing money down left and right for some folks just to "git er' done" will always garner low points/respect for those scratching for every dime .........its just the way of human nature. But the older/tired I get.....the more I think hmmm, I'll see if I can find one first (before R&D/fab) and sell/work more to get on with the BIGGER issues ! And of course BIGGER issues are quite personal in the priority. Those of you with family/kids.........I can only imagine the difficulty of sliding some "mad money" towards your Z endeavors. ( unless your in the higher income brackets...lucky you/bastard lol.) Just kidding.........( I would add a SMILEE here, but !!!) Thanks for the VIDS MATT !!!!! ...............Vinny
  18. (There is oil inside the intake, intercooler, piping, and down the intake manifold into the head. I am thinking that it is either the rings or lands, probably most likely the lands,) If there is oil there (pre-combustion) than that oil residue is most likely the turbos thrust bearings giving out ! No doubt from your Compression test your ring lands /upper ring are worn. I might add here.......I've noticed ALOT of guys that run mid grade aftermarket filters are eating dirt and prematurly wearing out their rings.......not saying YOU have ,just making the note ! Hopefully you were wanting a turbo upgrade and this just gives you that reason to do it.......what a bummer, lol. Vinny
  19. OH HOW COOL TO BE THERE ! Just to talk to the project mgr. and see it before most of America even hears about it ! If they haven't clearcoated that raw aluminum yet.....they'll wish they had !! That surface is microscopically corroding as we speak...er,type/read ! Beautiful nonetheless. ..................vinny
  20. You said it EZ-E ! And I can't wait til mine is done too. Its a tough road to go down innitially, but I love to fabricate. The fact that I'm widening the chasis lengthwise by 10" is simply for packaging and a wide stance that I've always felt the Z needed. )IMHO ) I'll have a modified G-nose blended with an R34 lower airdam. Maybe if enough of us get these S30 RB-z's done ....we can hold events to race them ? I've been flamed alot about the extra drivetrain weight that the AWD componets add........but the ONLY sheet metal will be the cabin, the rest is all Carbon Fiber.....save for the steel frame and cage. So this way I'll have the traction "hook-up" and lighter weight than even a modded S30 RB-Z ! I could have 200 less HP than another RB-Z and still cut a quicker light . ( Maybe?)lol. (OOOps,....I'm writing like this is the "RB Forum" ,sorry !) Vinny
  21. Quote (Dan.. BMW V12, yummmy!, but how do you deal with the front sump without making a new front crossmember? Transmission? ) Thats a great one right there......... I was thinking that with twin turbos and low boost and stripped of all the clutter. Probably would be quite front heavy ....but the highway on-ramps would be worth getting out of bed for ! lol. I also would think that the light/small high HP SR20DET pushed back in the bay, would make a killer all around performer....autocross,street and srtip too ! If we just had a few more lifetimes ! ...........Vince
