  1. As a 20 year old with a turbo Z with a Tomei 2 way LSD, I can say that if I had this car when I was 15, the LSD would not only have given me a headache, but likely would've killed me. You must be of a mature enough age to safely enjoy LSD.
  2. Both of my rear megan shocks are seeping oil with under 200 miles on them.
  3. Very cool! I dig the theme park background.
  4. Wow. Never having welded anything before in my life I did a better job than that on mine. Get your money back! A better welder should be able to ad material to reweld the plates onto fairly easily. There is still plenty to work with there.
  5. Hey! This car was just on JNC blog! Nice to get a look under the hood at that amazing surge tank set up. I forgot how cool those are, it's been far too long since yetterben was around here.
  6. Lots of people are running them. Search and you'll find lots of pictures.
  7. Nice diagram! There have been a lot of colored diagrams popping up lately, definitely a big help.
  8. And I'm Junior! Hybrid Junior, is what they call me.
  9. Cool! I'm going to try this next time I have to drop my tank out. I'll let you know how it works out.
  10. I am looking for the harness that goes from the passenger side firewall, to the alternator, to the headlights, to the coil. I do believe that the same harness from a 77' would work as well. Let me know if you have one and how much you'd like for it, and we can work something out.
  11. Go for the stock setup. As a fellow youngster with similar issues, I suggest you go for the cheapest option now. A turbo swap is a lot to tackle for a 19 year old on a budget, I did it two years ago when I was 17 and am still not finished. Unforeseen issues will inevitably happen that will halt your progress, and living expenses dry your budget to where its hard to afford general maintenance if you're also installing upgrades. So I suggest you go for a simplistic, most cost effective solution so you can limit the hiccups and have Z car to enjoy while you're a poor American youth, rather one that's parked in your parents garage 175 miles from where you live. Anyone who says you're too young just did something wrong when they were our age. Persevere and you will have a kick ass z car in a few short years. Also, don't get your girlfriend pregnant. That will really kill the project.
  12. Brakes depend on budget and desired stopping power. You can upgrade the fronts to Toyota 4runner (not sure of exact years) calipers, which are 4 piston over then original 2 piston that came on the car and are a bolt on upgrade. Silvermine motors offers a few staged kits for front and back. Modern motorsports also has some brake parts. Arizona Z Car has a sick wilwood kit, though its a bit pricey. There are a few options out there. Surely more than the ones I listed.
  13. Found the ground on the passenger side of the block to be melted. I'll proceed to check all other grounds throughout the car to see their condition. I am not looking forward to rewiring things. Thanks for the input!
  14. A few months ago, after getting an alignment done on my 78, I couldn't resist the urge to immediately follow the alignment with a small bit of spirited driving. Well, this was immediately after doing a lot of work to the car and I still had a few things to finish up, and it turns out that I forgot to tie down my battery, and on top of that I was using a battery from my brothers outback, so it was a bit too tall. I took a turn and pulled a bit of G's (maybe like .01 g's to be correct.) and the battery shorted out onto the section of fender above the battery tray. A lot of smoke was deployed, and it ran like sh$% until I made it home where it stayed parked for a couple of months due to me moving to a different town. Well, today I purchased a cheapo walmart battery, as the subaru battery was already in bad shape before the short circuit can now be rendered completely useless, and I threw it in there to see what works and what does not. -It is now running on 3 cylinders. -The subwoofer is no longer getting power. -And the temp gauge is no longer working for me. I'm sure there are more issues, but I haven't had time to thoroughly check everything out. It may be worth noting that this problem occurred after installing an L28et into my 78 280z (full ecm swapped from turbo as well). Everything ran really very nicely before this event and I just need some direction as to what I should examine when troubleshooting this problem. I can't really find specific info through searching, and I am only in town for a limited time and want to sort this out as fast as possible. This is a very embarrassing newb mistake for me to make, but things like this are bound to happen to a young mechanic such as me, so any help from you folks would be greatly appreciated. I've checked all the fuses within the vehicle and none are blown. Again, I know this is probably a very elementary topic, but I don't understand enough about electricity yet to really know the damage/what to look for. Thanks in advance for your input!
  15. I want a g35 now. Sad story but the vq will be happier in the Z. I haven't driven my car for more than ten minutes in the past two years and am now living in a different town than it. And it has coilovers, turbo, lsd, and so many other bits I installed at the end of high school when I had expendable income, none of which have even been broken in. I feel your financial pain as a recent graduate with no money. Just give us a few years though, those of us poor young hybridz-ers are lucky to own these cars and our builds will someday dominate the Internet. The world loves s30s more everyday it seems. Well that's my post for the year, good luck on the build and keep the updates flowing, however minor they my be.
  16. Never mind that! Found them on eBay. Nice build by the way. Your original s30 inspired my dream of an NA RB in the distant future!
  17. The dr20 wheels you had were in 114x4? I can't find them anywhere in our bolt pattern!
  18. Fixed! I just needed to let it cool down so I could touch it, then the rod slipped on with a little force. If I would've looked closer, the cotter pin would've been obvious before. Thanks for the response though!
  19. After about 2 years, I finally have gotten my turbo 280 on the road! Many mishaps have delayed the project, but a lot of learning has happened. The worst of those mishaps being it seized in the wrist pins on the first start up of the first rebuild. That sucked, a lot. But now I know how bad a small mistake can turn out being, and I wont make it again! I just got done with my Megan Coil-Over installation, I popped in a Tomei LSD, and new bushings all around. I'm going to run it stock ECM for awhile until I get it running perfectly, then I'll think about upgrades Well, it's finally moving under it's own power, and I have encountered a problem. The rod for the waste gate actuator has become disconnected from the waste gate and I am not getting boost. I have never owned a turbo car before, so this question may be a bit novice, but how do I get the waste gate actuator rod back on the waste gate, and what type of retainer holds it there? Do I just pull it back on? Or is it under vacuum? Sorry if this question is not worth a thread about, but any help will be appreciated! I should also probably note that it is the stock T3. (sorry, I don't have any pictures of it. low light+cell phone camera=no good) When I get all the kinks worked out, I'll update my build thread that I have been neglecting for years, so if anyone is interested in what I've done, you should be able go check it out soon! I've pretty much done everything to the car myself and I'm pretty proud of it, being that I'm 18 and this is my first project car. I owe so much to HBZ!
  20. The kit that includes pre sectioned struts on pre welded perches is indeed bolt in!
  21. If I save enough money, can I move to WI and have you teach me how to be so good at what you do?
  22. I bought a Tomei CLSD for like 850 shipped. I haven't installed it yet but it smells wonderful! That's another option for you.
  23. Thanks for the input! I think it is very likely that I am going to make this deal. Drove it last night and the way those carbs sound on that thing really makes me wonder how great they would be on an L6. It'll make a great auto-xer while my Z is in pieces. Does anyone have any links to built up b210 two door sedans? I haven't been able to find any.
