IMPACT PRESS RELEASE - APRIL 20st 2010 Be advised that SFI has made the decision that as of April 27th, 2010 our products manufactured in 2008 and previous years are decertified. Impact strongly disagrees with this decision. SFI's decision does not apply to products purchased in 2009, 2010 and forward. In light of the decertification, if any of our customers have to replace their products we can offer firesuits at a discounted price based on date of purchase, restraint systems at the trade-in price and free shipping.

I often read post pertaining to problems with venders but rarely read comments pertaining to the good ones. My good experience with Longacre Racing Products is worth mentioning. Over the last several years, I have purchased a number of items manufactured by Longacre and until recently, I have never had a problem. My Acculevel, caster camber gauge is now several years old and has been used very little. When I last tried to use it in order to do some setup work on my car, the digital gauge was giving me crazy and inconsistent readings and bounced from a few degrees to 50 or 60 degrees. Long story short, I sent it to Longacre repair and just knew that it would be fixed and then returned to me with a healthy repair bill. To my surprise, the tech. department called and said the gauge was in fact not working properly and they were sending me a new one free of charge. No fuss. No muss. Longacre really took care of business and I will continue to do business with them. They have good products and obviously, care about their customers.

Warbird, You seam to know what you are talking about and I thank you for contributing to HybridZ. We are always open to informative members who are knowledgeable. Please don't be shy about the service you offer. Please tell us more about your company, where its located, what the average cost to treat a brake rotor would be and what the estimated turn around time would be. Most of us are one man bands who would probably only be having one set of rotors done at a time but I'm sure there will be the occasional need for more extensive engine parts work.

Grassroots Motorsports Aero Article
Mayolives replied to Zzeal's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
The article is a number a pages long with many pictures. I really don't want to gobble up a lot of space here on the web site. Grassroots Motorsports Magazine is a good read and I look forward to it's arrival each month. It's content is aimed at the none sponsored, amateur car racing person with an out of pocket budget. This magazine doesn't deal with the Nascar BS that fills the pages of the typical car racing publication. IMHO, it's well worth the subscription cost and I really enjoy reading it. -
Anyone running a 3.9 gear ratio with a turbocharged motor?!
Mayolives replied to proxlamus©'s topic in Drivetrain
QUOTE:"The goal is to build max boost in every gear to get the shortest 1/4-mile..........and the less gears, the better." With a road race application, finding the best gear ratio is always dependant on the track you are running. Like most of us, you probably don't have crew of mechanics and a shelf full of differentials that your can play with. However, your solution is a little easier to find. Your track doesn't change. The obvious and only rock solid way to determine which ratio works best for you is to try the 3.9 and then compare the results with a 3.54 or whatever higher one you can try. Do you have a good friend with a higher ratio rear and who is willing to lend it to you for a few runs? The "proof is in the pudding." -
ZG flares, extra drag from tyres?
Mayolives replied to Orphan's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
QUOTE:"Can anyone comment as to how noticable the increase in drag is?" "Noticable" is a word that could have a lot of meaning. Could I feel the amount of drag created by adding fender flares? Probably not. But refering to aero changing items in general, it's the sum total of the improvements that make a noticable difference on the clock. We have discussed this before. When adding up the effects of a number of little aero improvement devices, the difference can be noticible! -
Grassroots Motorsports Aero Article
Mayolives replied to Zzeal's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
QUOTE:"I really think the drag created by the hood pins is fairly inconsequential" I wasn't suggesting that we dash out and replace our hood pins and after doing so, reap huge, go fast benefits. I would however, consider a better hood pin design when I build another race car. Several small and 'fairly inconsequential" things can add up to a decent gain. I'm using four, aircraft style, push to lock, pins that stick up about an inch or so and wish that I had researched my choice a little better when we built the car a few years ago. -

Mayolives replied to Zzeal's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
Yes, the Grassroots Motorsports article was informative and interesting. The author pointed out some little things like hood mounting pins that "stick up" that add to turbulence and how we would be better served by installing flat ones. A few little aero improvements, added together, can make a big difference in overall in aero improvement. -
Axles that work with the modern motor sports kit
Mayolives replied to 240zRacer's topic in Drivetrain
QUOTE:" I sent him my stock set and he is going to use them to make me a set that uses the better porsche style ball cage ends" I'm using Frank's porsche style cv set up and although I'm sure it's super strong, the larger ends contact the frame upon compression of the suspension. I'm about 6.5" at the pinch seam in front of the rear wheel and that's about as low as I can get it without bumping the frame. I plan to mod the frame area above the cv ends so that I can lower it, hopefully another .75 inche or more. -
John, Don't you just love Advance Auto or whomever you purchased the axles from? Your experience really adds to that warm and fuzzy feeling I have when ordering a rebuilt part from one of those jokers. Calling this ordering process a "crap shoot" would better describe it. You sure don't know how it will turn out!

Yasin, The S130's have never received enough love. You have one of my favorite, raced out, second generation Z cars, in the States. It should be an inspiration to anyone who is working on their 280ZX and needs a reminder of just how beautiful these cars really are. Nice job!

Tim, Nice Job!

Axles that work with the modern motor sports kit
Mayolives replied to 240zRacer's topic in Drivetrain
QUOTE:"Does The Driveshaft Shop or any other company make a stronger axle option for this set up" Yes. The people at Driveshaft Shop make tuff stuff for rally and drag cars that can handle huge numbers. However, I'm no expert, but I have read many post from those using R200 differentials who are putting big power to the ground. Although your stated HP and torque are imprssive, I suspect many are running higher numbers while using this diff without problems. Murfey's law and the fluke may have taken place. -

APR Performance made the wing. They supplied the wing for the wind tunnel test and will give HBZ members a 10% discount. Their parts are well made and their web site has some good information that will help to determine which product to use for your particular application. http://www.aprperformance.com/templates/apr2007_table/images/header_adjustable_wings.jpg

anybody know about roller throttle bodies
Mayolives replied to jdizzy204's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
If nothing else, a roller throttle body would really add to the "WOW" factor. It sure is peeerrrty! -
"i am looking for a manual (no automatics)1983 280zx turbo"I have decided to sell my 82 turbo car and plan to list it on Ebay later this week. It is super fine, "clean as a pin" and has about 70 K original miles on the clock. It will bring a price far beyond what you are offering for a car in similar condition. Perhaps my East Coast (SC) location will help to support the expected higher selling price. Good luck with your search.

Feedback on Billet Mustache Bars
Mayolives replied to Scott_M67's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
QUOTE:" Is anyone using either the Area 51 Billet Mustache Bar sold by NOS Motorsports or the Arizona Z Car Mustache bar? I'm looking for any feedback you can provide. I'm not sure what you are asking. I have been running Dave's AL billet Aluminum mustache bar on my race car since he first offered them, about three or four years ago. The mustache bar picture on AZC's web site is of my car. They have held up well with no structural issues and the finish still looks good even after being sprayed with parts cleaner and pressure washed countless times. I would buy them again if needed. -
Sorry........I didn't intend to upset you. I was just being a wise acre.
