  1. A leak down test would have been helpful but it's too late for that now. You really need to look very, very closely at the head gasket for signs of where it could have been leaking.
  2. Tony...........This was a true test for helicoil. We already knew how stupid humans can be.
  3. Have you checked out Aeromotive's web site? When I last visited them, there was a lot of good information and recommendations.
  4. In the past, I have read post pertaining to the cost of operating a race car. I found this information at Racer.com It pertains to the cost of running an Indy car. through their lease program. QUOTE: A lease for the 17-race season has been reduced by $27,000, to $935,000 ($15,000 lease and removal of $12,000 shipping fee) – about half of the 2005 lease program cost. For the Indianapolis 500, Griffiths said, "We're still offering a variety of options, but the basic price for an Indy-only team is $150,000. Last year it was $225,000." The package includes 800 miles of practice and qualifications, Miller Lite Carb Day and the race. A fresh engine for Miller Lite Carb Day and the race will be available for $60,000.
  5. This is my 500E. I hate to part with it and I would consider a partial trade for an S30. It's now for sale on Ebay.
  6. Ok, I now have a set of strut tubes. Thank you Philip.
  7. QUOTE: "and it was my first paint job ever." It's always good to see one of out cars being brought back to life. Keep up the good work!
  8. Check with HybridZ member, TitaniumZ. He has fabricated a number of splitters and diffusers for our cars. His work is top notch and he understands aero stuff better than most. His latest models are even relatively easy to get on and off the car!
  9. Body work can be THE most expensive type of repair work if you are paying someone to do it. The material cost can be realitivey inexpensive. The cost to cut out a small area and replace it would be far less then having to replace the entire rail. By searching the body section of this forum, you will find a ton of good imformation on the "how to" and cost involved.
  10. I need a pair of rear strut tubes for sectioning, priced down and dirty to fit a 280. Just the stock, uncut tubes. The closer to the Carolinas the better, due to shipping charges.
  11. I like your car, how it sounds and it makes good power. However, are you aware that the steering wheel has been installed on the wrong side?
  12. Good tools.................It's all about money and the amount you can spend. There "aint no free lunch." Snap-on and Mac are up there on the list. The Chinese are working hard to improve their quality and IMHO can now compete with some of the standard but ok quality like tools being offered by Craftsman and other manufacturers who have been around since Moby was a minnow.
  13. I'm still unclear as to exactly where you do not have spark. Have you pulled a plug wire from the dist. cap to see if it arks back to the cap when you try to start the car? Have you checked the IC unit (small box attached to the side of the dist.)? Do you have an ohm/multitester or voltmeter? You said that you had tried two different coils. Were they new or removed from a running car? Did you check them with test equipment? How have you checked the fusible links? Have you checked your ignition switch? Several have told you to get and study the FSM. Someone even spoon feed you a link to get a free download FSM. It is your friend and will solve 99.9% of all simple problems associated with the maintenance and repair of you very simple car. I have ask for and received help from members on the website many times. but I'm over and out until you study more and help yourself!
  14. I have been around many fast cars and this one has one of the better exhaust notes I have ever heard. It revs very fast and is absolutely ground pounding. As a passenger, it was impossible to communicate with the driver, even with a wired communication system. It's ear plugs all the way with hand signals as needed. This little V8 rocks!
  15. I measured a pair froma 280zx turbo that I think was a 1986 car. They measured as follows. The only micrometer I could put my hands on was in inches and I had use a rule for the length. 15 13/16 15 15/16 1.153 27 slpine
  16. After speaking with a Gopro tech. person I am now able to view the videos but only on my relatively new laptop. My desktops are at least five and seven years old and aren't up to the task. I really don't have a technical understanding of computers, even after using them for many, many years. Apparently, the Gopro camera records in MP4/H.264 format. I was directed to the http://www.264info.com web site, where I downloaded a codec pack called K-Lite. After which I was able to playback my videos. They are very sharp, even in lower light, indoor situations. I'm anxious to be back on track again and hope the in car stuff will be this good.
  17. Thus far I have followed Gopro's instructions and connected the camera to the computer using the supplied USB cord.
  18. I have a new GoPro HD camera and I'm unable to view the video I have taken. I have tried all the programs I have to replay the video but to no avail. I receive this message when I try to replay. "The player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file" This is all Greek for me. Any ideas???
  19. I'm surprised to see that others have not replied to your need for help. I suspect your problem may be electrical in nature. At first I thought the problem arose after you replaced the tune up parts but apparently that's not the case. Do you have a factory service manual? A simple unplug and re-plug of one of several connections could correct your problem. If you don't have a FSM, search here for the link to download one for your car and then follow the various trouble shooting guidelines in the manual. By doing so, you will find the source of your problem and also get a better understanding of what make your car "tick". All in all, and compared to newer cars, your car is relatively simple and electrical bugs are easily detected.
  20. I'll try. Why did you deem it necessary to replace plugs, cap and rotor? When you say "it won't fire", how does it act? Does the engine turn over? Have you replaced all the plug wires in the correct order in the cap? Does your cap look like this?
  21. Man, the "Z jones" is the monkey of all monkeys.
