  1. Brad, If you have Windows Movie Maker you can edit your tape and output it in a variety of smaller sizes. If it is 20 megs or less you can e-mail it to me and I'll resize and post it here. Sorry I couldn't join you at Irwindale but I'm still waiting to have NHRA send me my license. However, it sounds like you have some real potential in your Z. Let me know next time you go. Hanns
  2. California no longer has a 30 year rolling exemption. Only 1975 and older vehicles are smog check exempt.
  3. Because the tech staff warn me not to run in the 9's without a competition license. When I do run the quarter I get on the brakes and usually run low,low 10's. I prefer to stay on the good side of the staff people because they remember me. I'm getting my license because the staff at Irwindale finally got tired of me running too fast and turned me away. Now that I will soon have my license, I will run the qtr. Hanns
  4. James, It was nice meeting and talking to you. Qualcomm is an interesting place. But I didn't really hook up at launch until I did a massive burnout on my last race. But then it was hard to steer with the front wheels off the ground. The guy with the Super Gas Vega with 14" slicks and wheely bars, that I raced on that run, told me later that he was shocked at the way my Z launched. I beat him to the finish line, but I left a hair early. D.R. Hunt, A few weeks ago, at Irwindale, I ran a 6.17 (1/8th) for one of my license qualifying runs. Corzette, Do you attend any auto racing events in Japan or are you forced to live vicariously through our experiences? A number of Z-fans have asked me about the possibility of installing a big block into a Z. I always tell them to log on and look at your show car. Hanns
  5. I think he just had the carb when he swapped from the Z28 and wanted to show a complete engine pic before going FI. Of course I'm partial to TTV8's and It looks good. I'm surprised you only made 15 psi with the small turbine housing, but you were probably only being careful. My TT383 briefly made 30 psi boost (with 60 A/R turbine housings) until my fuel system gave up. However, the Z runs cooler and better with the 80's I'm using now.
  6. Welcome to hybridz. Sorry if I wasn't specific enough on info to allow you to post your pics but I just thought they were regular size. Anyway you are here now. I'm really impressed with your paintjob. Looking at it last Sunday at The MSA show I had no idea the Z was painted way back in 1989. Did you install the new strut bar yet? Be sure to let me know when you are going to the track with that monster. I might give you a few car lengths. Hanns
  7. You state that you plugged the vacuum line. Where is your vent for atmospheric pressure? If your regulator does not have one the vacuum port must be left open to establish a reference and be the vent. Hanns
  8. You know how much I liked your hood!!! It is really a shame that this happened. I also know just how much time and effort you put into making it so unique. Hopefully the "Senile Driver's insurance company will compensate you adequately so that it may be restored. At first I thought you were joking when you told me about it at the car show. It makes me sick to look at the photo. Hope you fix it. Hanns

    ZZZZ

    Nice......and my favorite color.
  10. I have a small generic gel cell battery. Unknown who manufactures it but "Baker" in Long Beach , Ca slaps a label on it. My Z was down for 6 months while the cage was being installed. Upon re-installation of the engine it fired right up without recharging the battery. The salesman told me the battery is good for holding a charge without recharge for up to 9 months in decent conditions. Hanns
  11. I know your daughter forced you to buy these heads because she was tired of your Z having so little power. So when are you taking the Z to the track? Hanns
  12. Thanks everyone for the comments. I used a suction cup camcorder holder to mount the camera. But it almost came off when the Z started to go sideways. I shifted into second gear but it just kept spinning the tires and I had to get off the throttle. This road is in the hills and has very little traffic, but I just wonder what other motorists will say when they see the wide and extensive tire marks on the road? So after I taped the video I was attaching the camera to get a front view. At that time, out of nowhere, a local Black/White came cruising by. I decided not to push my luck and got out of there. I wonder what he thought of the tire marks? Hanns
  13. Just testing to make sure the Z is running O.K. TT383 Engine........" 1 " Hoosier 12" wide QTP tires......" 0 ". Wonder how fast this Z would be if the tires ever hooked. Check out the video! http://album.hybridz.org/data/509/Different_View.wmv
  14. I had a problem with my Greddy type R BOV. I called Greddy 3 times and spoke to 3 different techs with 3 different results. I tried tightening and loosening the spring adjustment-to no avail. There are 2 fittings on the valve. The one on the spring housing and one on the valve body. The first one is linked to the air box and is pressurized by the turbos above the carb. The latter is a vent. I was told to also pressurize this vent to quickly open the valve when the carb throttle blades shut. In this configuration the turbos produced max boost of 10 psi regardless of how loose or tight the valve was set. I decided to undo this vent and discovered that now the turbos got max boost of 17 psi. It appears that the valve would consistently leak any boost above 10 psi with the vent pressurized. I have also read several tech articles in magazines that criticized this BOV for leaking boost under various conditions. All this time I thought I just had a defective valve. I still don't understand why the spring adjustment does not appear to affect the valve operation. Hanns
  15. Larry, If it does stop raining, what are your plans for the 72? Did I miss the posting of your new project? Hanns
  16. Are you sure you can fit this set-up in your Z? The valve cover modification looks good and it should help. How much clearance is there for the turbo exhaust and the inner fender, strut tower? Did you know that your turbo kit is featured on the front cover of the Hugh MacInnes "Turbochargers" book?
  17. O.K,O.K.....I'll consider it close enough to fit within the strict interpretation of the "Turbo Meister" rules. Besides, your Z and the turbo installation looks so good that you can set your own rules. By the way things are progressing we may have our own turbo V8 Z thread here. DR Hunt and Tim240z should have their turbo set-ups done soon. Are there any others under construction? Hanns
  18. I'm on my 3rd airdam...and it is cracked. But I'm old. Hanns
  19. David, I'm really sorry to hear about this turn of events. With all of your experience you should be able to build another Z in half the time. I hate to see you go "cold turkey" on the Z addiction. What will you do with your time and money??? Hanns
