The 280Z front turn signals are not visible from the side so safety becomes an issue. I know of several accidents that could have been avoided if the car had it's front turn signals visible from the side.

My donor had 20K on it too. I put a new slave too. Better safe then sorry.

I asked about this RB powered 510 on the 510 list and so far I have had several people get back to me stating that the car does exist. I have not heard about any pictures yet. I asked: "There is a thread running on a Z forum about a 510 in or around Bakersfield, CA that has a RB 20 or RB 25 motor in it. Anyone know about this car? Does an RB 510 exist? Any info would be appreciated." This is what I have heard: "Yes this is true...he was at the recent time attacks at button willow a couple of months ago..." "Yes, this is true. it is a RB25. ET Performance did all the IC piping, cooling and custom intake manifold." Anyone else have an info on it?
-
David, Joey said he had pulled his trans out and it was not a problem. It does look like it can be done if you jack up the front of the motor first.
-
The RB motor is way too long to fit in the stock 510 engine bay. You would have to modify the firewall to make it fit. Could make a great swap. Any pics of that car out there> I would like to see that. How much does an RB weigh?
-
Your project sounds great. Nice 510. I like the way the box flairs cover up the rear doors of the 4 door. It now looks like a 2 door.

Why do you have to change your fuel filter every month? I have about 4000 miles on my LS1 swap and have no problems with the filter. Is the gas you get a problem?

I had 2 track days with my 240Z before I did the LS1 swap and 2 track days after the swap. My car is set up for street and track. I have coilovers on all 4 corners with eibach springs, tokiko 5 way adj inserts, camber plates, ST sway bars and strut tower bars front and rear. I ran the same tires for all 4 track days. When I did the LS1 swap, I added subframe connectors from front to rear. No other changes were made. I really didn't notice much of a change in the way the car handles before and after. The things I did notice were that before I used to set the tokikos on 4 in the front and 3 in the rear and now I set them on 3 in the front and 4 in the rear. No extra understeer is noticed an now I have the power to add additional throttle steer that i didn't have before. As for weight, I never weighed it before but it now weighs 2540 pounds in full street trim with full interior, soundproofing, stereo, full tank of gas. Mine puts down 317/365 to the wheels and is a blast to drive. I am so glad i didn't go with the ZZ4 crate motor I was going to buy. LS power is the best.

I don't normally drive my Z in the winter but I had to go to our place at the beach to meet a contractor yesterday and since it was almost 60 degrees, I decided that it was time for a Z car road trip. It is about 150 miles each way. I left yesterday at 10 am, stayed overnight and got back today around 3pm. In that time, I had a lady in an Explorer chase me for 5 miles. She was so excited to tell me she used to own a 280Z for 12 years. Then a guy at the gas station said he used to have a 240 and was sorry he sold it. A guy in a new viper gave me the thumbs up and rolled down his window to tell me what a nice car I had and how he used to have one. Driving home today I had about 7 or 8 thumbs ups from cars on the road, a guy at Dunkin Donuts that loved it and the topper was the young kids in a Honda that were taking pictures of my car as we drove down the road. I love road trips in my Z. Got 26MPG for the trip too. Not too bad for a V8.

LS1 guys - ?? about coolant line under TB
qwik240z replied to VinhZXT's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Vinh, Are you talking about the coolant line that is used to warm up the TB? We bypassed the one on my car and I have not had any problems so far. Most LS1 guys on LS1tech have done the same. I was told that it is there to warm up the TB on cold days but I don't plan to drive it on cold days so no problem here. Bypass kits are available on eBay for cheap($10): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Camaro-LS1-98-02-throttle-body-bypass-6-RWHP_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33558QQitemZ8029158514QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW -
A friend called mine the Silver Bullet and it stuck. So Silver Bullet it is.

check out this 240Z restoration video. I thought some of you guys might beinterested how the Swedes handle rust repairs on their Datsuns. This stuff is totally worth watching and shows some real panel pounding, fabrication, and welding skills. http://www.voodoo-people.com/~daz/mull/wmv I hope you enjoy it

Speaking of the winter blues, It was 50 degrees here today. After work, I couldn't resist the urge to play with the cars. First I uncovered my 240Z and fired it up. I let it sit warming up in the driveway and hearing that sweet exhaust note was more then I could take. Normally I would never drive either of the cars once the roads have been salted but we have had so much rain that the salt has long washed away. I just had to go for a short blast around the block. It was so much fun. I sure miss driving it. I last drove it a month ago to the shindig at Mike Kellys' house but it seems like much longer. I put the Z away and went to the other garage and uncovered the 510. Popped the hood, hooked up the battery and fired it up. Let it warm up to operating temp while I sat in the drivers seat listening to the radio. Turned it off, unhooked the battery and covered it back up again. I sure miss my cars in the winter. I can't wait til spring.

I am using the Camaro dual fans on my stock radiator that was recored to a 4 core. Fit is nice and keeps the car nice and cool. As you said, wires are there too.
-
I hooked up a dealer add-on a/c unit to my 240Z and used a Sander Compressor and a Vintage Air Condensor and drier. The output with the stock blower motor is less then adequate in 85+ degree weather. I will be replacing the evaporator and the stock 240Z heater/defroster system with a Vintage Air unit this spring.
-
Looking good David! You will be firing it up in no time. Keep the updates coming.
-
Got mine today for my 240Z. They look great. I am sure they will work great! I love the ones in my 510. Super bright. I need to keep them on low so I don't get distracted by the brightness. AK-Z: some of us want to keep the look of stock gauges but still want them brighter. This does that and for much less then replacing all of the gauges. Most aftermarket gauges don't have indicators for the turn signals and high beams. EL Gauges $125 Aftermarket $250+ modify for turn signal and high beams I like the look of the stock setup. just my opinion.

Johns Cars Ls1 Kit Crossmember
qwik240z replied to BIMMERTECH's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
That looks very similar to the JTR crossmember. -
I want to add some dynamat to my Z to make it a bit quieter. I would like to do the firewall, kick panels, trans tunnel, inside the doors, the floors, behind the seats vertical section and the entire back area including the quarters, spare tire well, etc. I am thinking about using Dynamat Extreme. In the bulk packs it comes with 36 square feet (9- 18" x32" pieces) How much will I need? I am thinking that 2 packs of the bulk pack will be more then enough. I am also thinking of adding a layer of the Dynamat Extremeliner under the front mats, over the trans tunnel, on the firewall and in the hatch area under the carpet. How much will I need? Anybody done this? Yes. I know I will be adding about 30-40 pounds of weight. I am willing to make the trade off for a quieter ride. Thanks for the help.

Johns Cars Ls1 Kit Crossmember
qwik240z replied to BIMMERTECH's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
The crossmember was custom made to mount to my subframe connectors. Sorry no plans for it but it really isn't too complicated. You can look in my member gallery to see all my pics. -
Johns Cars Ls1 Kit Crossmember
qwik240z replied to BIMMERTECH's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
If you have a 240Z the framerails are much shorter then the 280z. I had that problem with the JCI trans crossmember. We ended up making me a crossmember that is much beefier then the JCI one. -
glad it was just the oil pan.
