  1. You can do what I did. I got a 240Z evaporator and control switch from eBay. This evaporator fits under the dash on the passenger side and hooks up to the original heater blower setup. Then we used a GM style compressor, new dryer and condensor and ran new lines, etc. Works pretty well. Once I get the Honda blower motor installed, it should be great!
  2. Thanks for the compliments but I can't put my car in the same class as Kipperman's. His is too clean! Nice meeting you and your friends. Thanks for the VG30 200SX. I look forward to swapping it into my 510. Let me know when you are ready for the rear diff.
  3. My car is a 72 and I had to cut off the ears from the trans tunnel. My trans mounts were different then Dales. Here is a shot of the tunnel after removing the ears. I used a grinder to remove them. I didn't have any problems getting the hoist to drop it in. I did have the arm adjusted all the way out but as you can see in the pics, I still had the bumper on. The load leveler helped alot. I did it with the help of My 11 year old son. No new scratches either. Dave, you can call me if you have any questions. Good Luck
  4. Just my opinion, but after having many SBC motors and now the LS1, you just can't beat modern fuel injection. No carb to fiddle with, no cold start problems, no engine run on, better mileage, just turn the key and go. Not to mention all aluminum block and heads for reduced weight in our Z cars, etc. etc. etc. I sure others will ring in with more. The SBC was and is a great motor (I almost did a ZZ4 Crate motor instead of the LS1) but I love my LS1!
  5. Are these the wheels you are talking about? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AFS-79-93-Mustang-Wheels-Cobra-R-4-lug-Silver-17x9_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43957QQitemZ8003975741QQrdZ1 ITEM DESCRIPTION: You are bidding on a set of four brand-new SILVER replica Cobra "R" style rims and center caps. There is NO RESERVE on this auction! Please see the pictures below. WHAT THEY WILL FIT: They will fit the 1979 -1993 Ford Mustangs, all models except 1986 SVO and 1993 Cobra. SIZE AND SPECIFICATIONS: They are 4-lug (4 on 4 1/4). We have combined two sizes on this auction, 2 - 17" x 8" (+12mm with 4.95" backspacing) for the front, and 2 - 17x9 (+24mm with 5.95" backspacing) for the rear. We really like using the 17" x 8" on the front of the Fox body Mustang! It gives better handling and NO RUBBING problems! ABOUT THE FINISH: We use a SILVER powder-coated paint that is actually baked onto the rims. This is followed-up with a clear coat to further protect the rims from yellowing or fading. This finish is extremely durable and very easy to maintain. Just wash them with the same gentle detergent you would use on your waxed car. Please note these are NOT blemished wheels. Bid with confidence on this set! QUALITY: All AFS wheels are DOT approved! The rims are structurally sound. We guarantee the rims to be straight, true and not out of round. If they are, the price is not too bad. $499 for a set of 4 wheels. I'd be interested to know if they will fit too.
  6. I finally got a chance to weigh the 240Z today. A store that sells all kinds of stone and brick pavers, etc. has a digital drive on scale. We had bought some pavers from them last year and the guy told me he would be happy to weigh my car anytime, just bring it by. So today I was in that neighborhood and stopped by. I drove onto the scale, parked it there and went inside. I looked at the digital readout and the car weighs 2540 pounds. I ask the guy how accurate the scale was and he says " when you pulled on the scale with you in it the scale was reading 2720". Well I weigh about 175-180 so I think it is fairly accurate. The car had 1/2 a tank of gas. Glad it's not a "Porkchop"
  7. Anybody that have these on their car have any trouble fitting the front centercaps on? The 14's I got 2 years ago came with centercaps that are 1/4" too short to fit. They hit the spindle dust cap. Has Konig corrected this problem?
  8. Mike, One Sunday morning cruise in the 240Z LS1 I came up against a new C6. He couldn't pull away from me. When we pulled over we talked for a while and he says he thinks my car could take him. 400 crank HP in a 3200 pound car vs 317RWHP (est. 375 crank HP) in a 2600 pound car. You do the math. I love my LS1 Z.
  9. The Paintucation comes in VHS or DVD. You can buy one or all of them. The video is highly informative. I haven't watched them in a while but it shows everything from how to properly cut out old rusty metal and weld in new to how to prep and paint your entire car to how to repair a small dent or a scratch and blend the paint. It shows how to colorsand and buff properly too. It is great info that anyone can follow. Kevin Tetz is the host of several cable how to programs and has been an auto and motorcycle painter for many years. $40 may seem like alot but it will save you hundreds if not thousands if it teaches you to be able to paint your car yourself. I am in no way affiliated with this guy but I am impressed by the info on the videos. The website offers VHS versions for $25 each but they appear to be out of the one for painting you car. DVD is still available for $40. If I had the skills and wanted to produce a similar video (racerx) It would be worth me time to buy a copy of the competitions video and check it out. Just Sayin'
  10. Glad to hear that he still has an LS1 Z car there. I sent him my tach so he could fix it and he is going to test it on that cars' signal from the ECU. The Post Office was supposed to have it to him by yesterday but he won't get it til today. I hope to have a working factory tach soon. I wish I was close enough to drive there too. I would love to meet him in person.
  11. I have a copy of the series "Paintucation" by Kevin Tetz This is a video series of all the steps from bodywork to paint to buffing and color sanding. Excellent series for the do it your selfers. Check it out: http://www.paintucation.com
  12. It was something they had laying around the shop. I am sure you can bend a piece of aluminum to make a similat bracket.
  13. John from JCI actually called me today asking if I had sent my tach back to him yet. He has a LS1 car in there this week that he plans to use the signal from that car to check the tachs he is fixing. I sent him both tachs today.
  14. Oh Yeah, Congrats on getting it running. Yes they are very fast motors in a Z. I love mine more each time I drive it.
  15. I've had many problems with the tach that JCI modified for my 240Z. I have sent it back to him and got it back and it still isn't working. I bought another one off ebay and I am sending it to JCI along with the one they modified so they can fix it again. We have checked the tach signal through the diagnostic port and the computer is sending a good signal. We also hooked up an autometer tach and it works fine. I hope that JCI can get it fixed. I really would like to keep the stock gauges.
  16. Ouch! Damn, no slack for the newbie! I realize that the reaction time is a bit slow but in my defense, I had been up since 5AM,drove 100 miles to play in a golf tournament ,played 18 holes of golf in 95 degree weather, drove back home 100 miles, drove 40 miles to the track, stood around for 3 hours waiting for a chance to run, 10PM rolls around and I get to go. I guess my reaction times were a bit slow. It would be great to run at 6AM. I bet the reaction times would be much better. By the way, my grandma is 94 and she still drives.
  17. This is what we did to my car using the stock rod that passes through the firewall. It is a lokar universal cable. I am sure you can fab up a bracket to make this work for your application. I hope this helps!
  18. So I went to the local dragstrip last night. This was their last Friday night of the season and boy was it crowded. I got there around 7pm and had to wait 3 hours to run. I met up with Jody and his super nice, super fast 280Z28. His car has so many chevy parts you aren't sure if its more datsun or more chevy. He is a great guy and I really enjoyed meeting him. I also met up with several other Z car owners that were attending as spectators and didn't have their cars there. Nice to know there are so Many more Z owners around my area. Lots of other Nissan/Datsuns too. I finally got to run around 10 pm and only made one run. I was hoping to run in the high 12's but I had major problems getting the car to hook up. With the skinny 195-60-14 Falken Azenis tires, I was spinning wheels through most of 1st and part of 2nd gear. I had really tried to launch it easy but I guess I got caught up in the moment. I am a beginner at this straight line stuff and in the other lane was a really nice 1970 Plymouth GTX with a 440 in it. Sitting next to that GTX made me think about racing him instead of concentrating on my own launch. I did leave him way behind but I need to work on my reaction time and get some bigger, stickier tires if I want better times. I am sure the car is good for mid 12's but my one run netted the following: 1/4 mile: 13.1639 1/4 mile Speed: 100.3816 Reaction time: 1.4294 60 ft: 2.1174 330ft:5.7054 1/8th mile:8.6213 The GTX ran a 14.8512 so the crowd was surprised to see the Datsun beat the American Muscle car. I really didn't build the car for the 1/4 mile but it was fun to run it and I am sure I will go back again and see if I can get the car in the mid 12's.
