David, Did you get the headers you described, and if so how did they work? I'm looking for a fairly inexpensive header solution, and this sounds pretty good! -Bart Update, I called Sanderson yesterday because the headers should have been here buy Tuesday but I gave it til Thursday before calling. I spoke to Jeremy and he said that they only had one side ready to ship and the other side should be done today and he would ship them out on Monday. Hopefully he will get them out next week as promised. I will let everyone know how they fit once I get them.

You really don't mess around. That rotiserrie looks really nice for a home made unit. What a great idea. 2 engine stands that have been modified to stand taller. I like it. A home made rotiserrie for around $150. I will need to remember this for when I restore my 510. Since you posted the mugshots, which one is Mike and which one is John? It is nice to put a face to the names. Good luck with the body work.

I need to get one of these for my LS1 swap. Where can I get one from? Are there any companies that offer them for sale or do I have to have one made? -
Ground Rat, Welcome! I too am in Maryland. So is Pete. He is one of the founding members of this forum. I live in Potomac and am installing an LS1 into my 240Z. We should hook up sometime. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Yeah! Kinda what I was thinking. Yours is the 98 motor right? Mine is the 02 with the ls6 style intake so it should at least have the power you are making. I would be happy with 311rwhp but somehow I think it will be a bit more if I use the same type exhaust as you and get the cold air from in front of the radiator. Thanks!

Bill, I am going to be using the same headers as you. Sanderson 1 1/2" primairies. As for 3-5 HP that is not too much. My goal was for 300+ RWHP and am sure I will easily achieve that. I just want to make sure that if the beginning part of the intake is 3 inches it will be enough. The stock air box seems smaller then that.

Got the air intake stuff from JTR . The air intake stuff looks to be great quality stuff. I am trying to use the same setup as Joey did but there is a difference in the size of the hole that goes through the core support on the 240Z as compared to the 280Z. I want to run it to the passenger side where the in cabin cool air duct hooked up. The aluminum tube Joey used is 3 1/2 " but it will not fit through my core support as the hole is smaller. I would like to use a reducer to allow a 3" piece of aluminum tube to go through the existing hole. Will reducing it to a 3" still provide enough air? The plan is to have a K & N up front to a 3" 90 degree elbow to a 3" aluminum pipe that will pass through the core support to a 3" by 3.5" 90 degree elbow to a 3.5" piece of aluminum pipe to a coupling to the MAS to a 3.5" by 4" 90 degree elbow to the throttle body. MAS280 did you have to enlarge the hole in your core support??

Worked on the Z this weekend. I pulled the motor and trans back out and beat on the trans tunnel for awhile to make room for the trans crossmember. While the motor was out I replace the cracked oil pan with the new one. Got the motor and trans back in and bolted up to the motor mounts again. I marked where to drill for the trans crossmember but didn't get a chance to get it drilled. Family obligations. I also did a test fit of the driveshaft from JCI. Looks like it will work great. The Sanderson headers sould be here this week. The Speartech wiring harness and computer should be here next week? I sure hope I don't have to pull the motor too many more times. If so I really need to get a 2nd floor jack.

Bill, You are a lucky man. My wife hates my Datsuns. She can't believe I tore up a perfectly good Z car to install a V8. She really hates my 510. She calls it a Fiat and/or a Lada. She doesn't understand how anyone could like "that piece of JUNK" I have given up on trying to change her. She does like to drive fast though. Maybe once she gets to drive the V8 Z car she will change her mind. She doesn't drive stick so lucky for her I am installing the auto in the Z.

That's great. If he is done with yours mine is next. More LS1 Z cars on the road soon. Keep us updated.

Looks good in there. Nice fit. Are you running a maual or auto trans? I haven't been following your project. IS there a link to more info on it?

Got the trans crossmember and air intake stuff from JTR yesterday. The crossmember looks to be an easy fit. I will just need to "massage" the trans tunnel a little on the passenger side. The air intake stuff looks to be great quality stuff. There is a difference in the size of the hole that goes through the core support as compared to the 280Z. I am trying to run it to the passenger side where the in cabin cool air duct hooked up. The one Joey used is 3 1/2 " but it will not fit through mine as the hole is smaller. I would like to use a reducer to allow a 3" piece of aluminum tube to go through the existing hole. Will reducing it to a 3" still provide enough air? I will have a K & N up front to a 3" 90 degree elbow to a 3" aluminum pipe that will pass through the core support to a 3" to 3.5" 90 degree elbow to a 3.5" piece of aluminum pipe to a coupling to the MAS to a 3.5" to 4" 90 degree elbow to the throttle body. MAS280 did you have to enlarge the hole in your core support?? Also, does anyone happen to know the size of the bolt on the stock auto trans mount? I need to get a new nut as mine didn't come with one. I can pull the mount and take it with me but if you know the size it would be easier. I will pull the motor this weekend to adjust the trans tunnel to fit the crossmember and then bolt up the trans and make sure everything fits properly. Then once I get the headers from Sanderson I will install them for a test fit. I should also have the computer and wiring harness back from Speartech in about 2 weeks. Once I have all that laid out, I will pull the motor again, and get to painting the engine compartment. Finally I can get this moving.

Where are you going to find another rust free donor that is so clean? Everyone says if you want to put a V8 in a Z, start with a rust free car. The torque it will produce will stress the chassis and a rusty car will not handle it. When I was looking for a Z for my V8 project, I took a nice 72 that is rust free and started from there. I paid alot more then $500 for it too. Everyone told me I was crazy to rip apart such a nice car. I know I am making it better. An LS1 is the kind of power a Z should have been made with. Even Mr. K, when asked what he would do differently if he could change the original Z, said he would have given the Z more power. That car is so clean it will be easier to do all the stuff you want to it and it hasn't been molested so the stuff like the wiring, fuel lines, guages, suspension pieces are probably in great shape. If you start with a roller or a car that has had many owners and mods, you really don't know the problems it will have. The little stuff will cause more grief and aggravation. I say build your dream Z from the cleanest base you can find. It will be a nicer Z when you are done and you will be happier. If you want more money, work a little harder. This is your hobby, not your job. How much is a dream worth to you? -
MAS280 ran 11.1 with a cam and some tuning.
