  1. Thanks for the comments. 280zwitha383: I don't think he has ever ran a 1/4 with it. My dyno was with the nitrous. NISMO619: I only recently got to know the owner but so far he's been a really cool dude. dr. hunt: Thanks man. Hopefully soon I can get it to the point where it's really fast....reliably.
  2. lol. The vid is getting an insane amount of hits. 700 hits in the past 15 mins. haha. JT
  3. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/b5f1b31a-82d3-4796-9738-985d016bf0f6.htm Here is a vid from this weekend of me running a twin turbo viper from a 40mph roll. I was running 20psi plus a 125 shot and rolling on M/T ET street radials. The viper was around 800rwhp and was on some 19" wheels. We're supposed to go again at some point when he gets some stickier tires. Big thanks to Gabe for making the video. JT
  4. Well, the car should have been making around 630 to the wheels. If you figure 15-20% loss.....roughly 725-755 flywheel, right? And yeah, the auto cost me almost exactly 50 rwhp. Pretty crazy if you figure if I still had the 5 spd.....680 rwhp......what, 780+ flywheel?....on 93 octane. It's all just BS'ing but still fun to think about. lol. JT
  5. I try to shift it at 7500 just b/c of the oil pump issues these motors have been known to have. The limiter is set to 7750 but it comes in at 150 over that which is 7900. On the dyno at 7750 the power is still climbing....never flattens out. If I wasn't scared of the oil pump deal I would like to pull it to 8500 just to see what it does. On the nitrous I was trying to only take it to 7200 just for an extra little margin of safety. No real need to rev the crap out of it on the gas.....it pulls like a freight train regardless of rpm. JT
  6. I've thought about the rb30 bottom end but isn't the block taller than the rb25 block? If it is then it wouldn't work as my whole setup (i.e. header) was built around the current configuration, and there is not alot of room to play with. If I had to start from scratch, I would proably start with a rb26/2jz next time around. JT
  7. turbo_fb: I honestly wouldn't bother with putting in good pistons if I was you. Mine has been holding up for over a year at the 450-500rwhp mark. eh: Rev limit has been set to 7900. JT
  8. I imagine it's just too much cyl. pressure for the cast pistons. I was really pushing this motor hard.....gotta figure it's a 9:1 motor on 20psi from a fairly large turbo with what came out to be 200 horses of nitrous....on pump gas. lol. I knew something would go in the near future. JT
  9. I think I've found the limit of a stock rb25det....somewhere around 600hp. lol. It made a shitload of power and was an absolute monster....too bad it was shortlived. Apparently the ringland is the weakest link. Venus auto sells rb25's for $800 minus turbo and accessories so I think I'm going to purchase one tomorrow to throw in the car for the time being until I can swing buying some good parts to put it in this one. I'll just have to "detune" it a bit. At least I got to have a little fun with the car.....whooped up on a Hennessey Twin Turbo Viper this weekend. Also put a hurtin on a 600+ hp Kenne Belle Cobra and a RC51 (1000 cc bike). Should have vids up sometime soon of the races with the viper. JT
  10. Thanks. Only vid I'm going to have real soon is walking off from a twin turbo viper. lol. I beat him pretty good twice in a row from a roll but on the 2nd run I hurt the motor. Broke a ringland on the #5 cyl. I didn't expect it to last but didn't think it would go that quick either. I think it's safe to say the limit of a stock rb25 is around 600hp. lol. I'm probably going to be buying a long block from Venus auto tomorrow to throw in for the time being until I get some good parts in the other motor. I'll post some vids soon. The car was an absolute monster on the gas btw.....felt like it had a big block under the hood. lol. Somehow the 235-60-15 M/T's hooked up great. Didn't spin on a first gear roll and only a little chrp when it hit 2nd. Cant wait to get a built motor in the car and make some real power. I'm pretty confident the car would go at least 140mph in the 1/4 with the current setup. JT
  11. Yeah, it's doing it on motor as well....but not all the time. ANd it' s not just a misfire.....it's a pretty big backfire in the intake. I will definately look into the DIS. As far as the hall sensor goes.....there is hardly any air gap and I am using the bracket I got from you. I realigned it while on the lift at the dyno and it didn't make it any better. If you have any other ideas I'll definately listen. JT
  12. Matt: What is involved in changing to the DIS? Could this also be the problem even on the motor at 450 hp? JT
  13. 280zforce: It has t-bolt clamps everywhere. s15: the pulls were made at 20psi. cody: Good point.....I am definately goin to look into that this time around. Intakes are getting expensive....lol. This one looks pretty cool now.....custom rounded shape. I probably won't even get it redone for a while as long as it's holding.....for sure at least until I get the rpm error fixed. JT
  14. Went back to the dyno tonight to do some more tuning and see what kinda power it makes on the nitrous. Laid down 445 rwhp on motor with a very conservative tune, through the th350. Hit it with the 50 shot and it made 515 rwhp at like 10.5:1 afr. Played around with different jets and ended up using a 125 hp nitrous jet with the 90hp fuel jet and it laid down 595 rwhp at 11.2:1 afr. On this pull I had nitrous leaking out from a fitting so I tightened it up and made another pull. at 6000 it was making 35 more hp than the last pull but it backfired due to an rpm error with the SDS. Did some damage to the intake manifold again (ballooned it but no cracks) and blew the IC pipe off. Had it been a full pull it should have laid down at least 630 or so to the tires. Tried to make a few more pulls on motor and kept having the same problem with it backfiring and throwing an rpm error code. Played around with the hall sensor location but couldn't fix it so I gotta talk to the guys at SDS tomorrow and figure out what to do exactly. Cant wait to see what 600+ rwhp feels like on some good tires. lol. Surely it'll be in the 9's now with some decent traction. Needless to say lag is not an issue on the gas. Oh yeah, this was all on 93 octane. Supposed to run a Hennesey twin turbo viper Friday night but I guess I'll have to put him off till I get this sorted out. It supposedly makes 700+ on pump gas and 1300 on race gas. Thankfully he said he'd be on pump gas and street tires...lol. JT
  15. Very cool. Got big plans for the rb25? Definately keep us updated. If you are in Atlanta, you should bring it to the next SEZ, in Reynolds, GA in March 07. There were 3 of us with rb's this last time, earlier this month. JT
  16. Long block is completely stock....head has not even been off yet. Still wondering when I'll find the limit of the head gasket or bolts. JT
  17. As I'm in the middle of reinstalling my nitrous kit for SEZ in 2 weeks I get the bright idea of playing around with my VVT. I have been running about a year now with it not hooked up and have been having bad problems with building boost in a timely manner. On my 10 sec pass I had a 13 sec reaction time but I was on the stall more like 17 or 18 secs which definately can't be good on an automatic. I hooked a power and ground to the VVT today and what do you know......10 psi sitting in my garage in maybe 5-6 secs. Talk about a load off. I have had the converter restalled and also changed the collector on my header trying to fix this problem and all it took was hooking up 2 wires. LOL. Took it out on the street tonight and it's a totally different car. From a roll, boost comes on quicker and from a stop I have no trouble getting the car to leave. Think I'm going to hold off on the nitrous till after SEZ now. Pretty sure 550-600rwhp and low 10's are easily attainable with some good gas and a few more psi. Going to get it back on the dyno this week and play around with the tune and with turning the VVT off at different RPM's and see what works best. Hope this old stock motor holds together.... JT
