  1. 2400 psi is really a little on the weak side to be honest. I have a 3200 psi but I also wash/paint houses for a living so I need one thats a little larger than the average person needs. Personally, 3000 would be about the smallest I would buy. Check around for a used one. 3200 psi machines go for about $1000 or so new but I paid $450 for mine barely used out of a buddy's pawn shop. If you do buy one used just make sure it's a decent shape....stuff like mufflers and manifolds, etc are $$ and they have a tendency to rust and start leaking. JT
  2. You may want to take a look at http://www.racetronix.com . I bought my 75# injectors for them for under $400/set. They also have 95#'s for the same price. JT
  3. Never have had a problem fitting in with any group around here. The import guys drool over the car, the domestic guys respect it b/c it whoops up on most of them, most of the hot rod guys dig it......seems like just about every one I meet used to own a z at one time. The car never fails to draw a crowd where ever it goes. JT
  4. Try changing the plugs on a lightning. Took me about 5 hrs first time I did it. Talk about a PITA. JT
  5. 2126: Wouldn't it be safe to assume that most of our cars see max rpm and/or boost frequently? Otherwise, whats the point in building a hybrid? BTW, the truck's only been to the track a handful of times. Most of it's short racing life was on the street from a roll. It IS a supra motor ya know? lol John: Yes, that's my old truck. Only had the 22r turbo when I had it though. A little more stout now! JT
  6. Just in case anyone may want to check it out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4559156862&category=6059&sspagename=WDVW#ebayphotohosting Good little truck and one helluva sleeper. JT
  7. I'll 3rd that. I reused the same headgasket 3 or 4 times and never had a problem with leakage of any kind. Need to coat both sides good and let it sit a few mins before you put it on. JT
  8. It's good to see someone more indecisive than myself every once in a while. lol You should trade it to me for my vg30et 510 wagon project. JT
  9. Been wondering what the car weighed for ohhhh, about 5 years now, so I finally took it to a weigh station today. Weighs 2920 with me in it. I weigh 220 so the car is about 2700 flat. This is with the rb25, 4 pt weld in cage, these very heavy 18x8 tsw wheels, and about 10 gallons of gas. Oh yeah, as far as weight distribution it was 1440 in front and 1480 in rear. Not bad. JT
  10. Everything but the flange is 321 SS. Jonathon T.
  11. Here is a vid of the run the other night. Not the best vid.....bounced around alot on my run with the vette. http://www.Z06phile.neptune.com JT
  12. http://www.davesport.com/cgi-bin/davesport/DFRB25DETMS.html Mine came from here. It is mild steel but if you are set on stainless maybe you could have one special made....I dunno. JT
  13. I would have to say people are too hard on the 7m as well. I have an 87 turbo Supra and the engine is super smooth and very torquey. Yes, they are notorious about killing headgaskets, but all it needs is a good gasket and ARP studs and you won't have to worrry about that. Other than that, the 7m is a pretty solid motor with lots of potential. I would have to agree with the statement abover though.....don't go 7mge......if you are going to swap to a 7m, at least go turbo. For the easiest/cheapest swap, the L28et is where it's at. Will still make more power than most people need, with a few upgrades, and has no BS problems that I know of. JT
  14. Scottie: I actually ran a 1/4 last Wed. Not really trying too hard to get it to leave...more interested in seeing the mph. Trapped 119 running 13psi in 1st, and 17 in 3rd....ran 18 in 4th but I only got to touch 4th briefly in the run. I think part of the reason the car is so sluggish is b/c the tranny gearing is incredibly tall. My first run I ran through the traps at 119 on the limiter in 3rd gear. That 150-160mph run was in 4th gear. I'm running 3.70 rear but the tranny gearing is killing me seems like. I would change the rear to something a little shorter but I am planning to put a th350 with about a 4000 stall in the car in the very near future (hopefully before the next SEZ event). Lightning is for sell so as soon as it's gone I will buy the auto. Like I said the Z06 dynod 461 to the ground. I'm sure he's way more aerodynamic than the z so hopefully I'm making some decent power since he couldn't pull me at those speeds. Either way, the car is not making what I hoped it would but it's still fast from a roll. Oughta wake up with the 100 shot going on it. JT
  15. The motor is a very very tight fit. A good friend of mine has one in my old 86 turbo pickup. He had the mounts made locally. Did most of the work himself. Had to cut some stuff out to make it work. The truck screams.....ran a 6.80 @ 96 mph in the local short 1/8 track.....that comes out to about a 7.1 @ 101 in a true 1/8. It has a to4 series turbo, 23psi, and a 100 shot of gas. He ran the 6.80 @ 16psi and 100 shot. Look down a few posts to the 280z v/s Z06 thread for some pics of the toyota pickup. JT
  16. Met up with a couple of friends last night. Good friend of mine has a Z06 with a Linginfelter(s?) built 383. Awesome car. Dyno'd 460rwhp. He was supposed to race a 3rd gen rx7 with a Ls1 w/ heads/cam, and bolt on's so I kinda tagged along to play as well. We raced on a long straight bridge with no traffic. The vette ran the rx7 and pulled a coule of cars on him. I ran the vette from about a 50mph kick up to about 150-160. I jumped out about a half a car on him, he pulled back up even with me and thats how it stayed....side by side. Fun race, although I don't like to make a habbit of going that fast in the this old datsun. Also ran my buddy with the 1jz powered toyota truck. The truck has a fairly large t04 series turbo, 23psi and a 100shot. Very stout truck. We went from a 2nd gear kick last night as well and I jumped out about a half a car on him. Looked like he was inching up on me until it shifted (stock auto tranny). It's a slow shifter and I pulled about another car or so on the shift. JT
  17. I believe the 300zx turbo and na axles had different bolt patterns. If I remember correctly, the 300zx turbo was a 4 bolt and the na was a 6 bolt. The 300zx axles are also longer than the 280zxt axles I believe. My guess would be the longer one is the 84-86 300zx na. I was big into z31's a few years back and I used to know all this at the time. It has been a few years since I have messed with them much so I could be wrong. JT
  18. It is getting an auto in the near future I think, just don't have the cash for it at the moment. Plus I really want to enjoy the car a little before I tear it down again. lol Going to put a little gas on it (50-100) and hopefully I'll be able to leave easier and not lag. Should have it on in the next week or so...want to put on my 2nd fuel pump before I go spraying it. JT
  19. True. True. Thanks for filming by the way. I grabbed my camera when I went to leave, only to find all three of my batteries were dead. lol JT
  20. Thanks. After trying to launch it a couple of time last night the auto is looking alot more appealing. I was leaving at about 6k and it was still bogging bad. Gas will definately wake it up and I am going to see how that goes before putting in an auto. Oh yeah, in case you couldn't see the times, the pass against the yellow truck was 8.0 @ 88, against the camaro was 8.0 @ 87. This would be approx 8.3 @ 93 or so in the a true 1/8. JT
  21. Nice. 911 was my dream car when I was a kid. Awesome looking ae86 as well. JT
  22. Here are a couple of clips of the 280 at the local track. The track is a "short" 1/8 track.....If you add 3/10 and 5mph thats about what it would be in a true 1/8. The car lags .....bad.....needs an auto or some nitrous. These runs were at ~15psi and my half *** tune (1st attempt at tuning a car). My good buddy Dr. Thagard stopped by last night and we got it tuned alot better and at 18psi now. It's considerably stronger now than in the video. May try to make it over to a real 1/4 mile track this Wed and see what kind of mph it will do in the 1/4.....it's not going to ET worth a crap so I may as well shoot for mph until I get an auto or gas on it. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=2801&cat=500&page=1 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=2802&cat=500&page=1 JT
