You've got my attention! I've been too busy moving cross-country to devote any real time to working on my diff swap. Keep us posted.

No problem, I guess I took you a little too seriously. Maybe I'm just sensitive about fellow Swedes? Anyway, consider my feathers un-ruffled. BTW, the jet intake brake duct is a cool idea. I'm stealing it .

Veritech, I sincerely hope your comment is in jest. This repeated, "everyone is stealing my ideas" line from you is getting a bit old. You are certainly not the first person to think of this sort of thing, and I have plenty of pictures of cars done in this style. I'm sure when spring rolls around and I hit the road in my lo-buck 240, you'll cry foul once again, no matter how different from yours it is. I planned out the scheme for my car almost 2 years ago, and a few months ago OTM spelled out an almost identical idea. He obviously hadn't been chatting with my friends in Connecticut, stealing my thoughts. Did I get bent out of shape? No, because that would be ridiculous. Almost no idea is original anymore. You've had some pretty original ideas, your VF and Camo BRE paint jobs were definitely all yours and very cool. Don't crap all over that by claiming anyone with a quasi-military paint job is ripping you off.

Wasn't the builder a member here? I recall the car being dropped because the guy found religion and was going to be a priest. Maybe the church decided it was an unholy abomination and made him stop building it...

Mull, that rocks! Paint the car just like that. You could call it a "Ziggen".

Aerodynamics DONATIONS NEEDED!!!

So, Santa Cdlaus will be a few months late this year! -
Ledphoot, you totally trump me! Cassette tape? That's frickin' amazing. OTM, I had to do a similar thing when the 4 speed in my 260z asploded. The only gear left was 3rd or 4th (it's been a long time). Red light starts were fun on the way home. Of course, that led to me scoring a JDM close ratio 5 speed for $225, so things worked out for the better. Man, do I wish I still had that one...

Or, "How I didn't walk miles in 60mph winds on X-mas day". Desperation breeds creative use of items on hand when things go bad. A little background is in order. I just moved out here to NM Saturday. My Christmas present to me was driving the 240z I bought six months ago for the first time. The car eventually fired up (it was damn cold). Man, I forgot how loud those Datsun lifters are... So, I let the car burble away and warm up while I checked out the things that did and did not work. Lights? Check. Turn signals? Uhhh, nope. HV__ ?(no ac) Yep, it sort of blows. Just like new. Wipers? Slow as hell. Just like new. Tach? What's a tach? Fluids are all topped off and I'm ready to test drive. I snicked her in gear and backed out of the rut the Z was parked in without drama. I taxied down the gravel drive and pulled onto the street. This was my first time out with a triple carbed stroker. Every part of me wanted to dump it and make John Force proud. I goosed the throttle a bit and took off sensibly, feeling her out. There was way more power underfoot than I've ever experienced in a 6 cylinder Z. In retrospect, the self control I exercised was amazing. The clutch felt good, but the trans was picky with 2nd gear. I went through the gears without fanfare. They were all there, I guess thats good. I sawed the wheel like on a pace lap, checking just how loosey-goosey the suspension was. No folks, not warming up the tires. Restraint be damned. This car begged me to open her up, and I'm a pushover. I stabbed the brakes, and found out that the Toyota brake upgrade is pretty decent. -The nose dove like a Stuka, gimme some suspension please! I came to a stop, tached her up and gave a light launch (diff mount is shot BTW). The car took off and I was grabbing gears, loving the music of the Mikunis. This car is the fastest thing I've driven without a V8. I fully expect at least mid/low 13 sec 1/4mi. The car effortlessly came up to speed, I let off at about 90, braked and downshifted to ... well, because I wanted to. The car of course took off, and I had an ear to ear grin. I eased off again, coming back down to citizen speeds. I then gave her a little gas to maintain speed. No response. I was idling in 3rd gear. I pulled off, shut her down and opened the hood. Checking the linkage first revealed the main linkage rod going to the throttle linkage shaft had snapped off the ball stud. Frigid temps and old plastic parts are not a good mix. So, now I'm stuck several miles from my house in the cold with a car that runs but goes nowhere (there's gotta be a joke there). My cell phone is charging on the kitchen counter. I look in the car and it is EMPTY. Crappy tapes in the glovebox, precious few odds and ends in the console bin. I size up my materials like a desperate pothead. A plan formulates. Here's what I came up with: I pretty much rule. What you see is two Fram spring clip hose clamps, one lucky bolt and two nuts (the only ones I could find), two wrenches from the Datsun tool kit, and a paper clip. Yes, a paper clip. It ended up being exactly the right length when using the other pivot on the arm. This worked flawlessly, and got me back home first try. I am so damn proud of my Ghetto-fabulous fix, that I don't want to fix it correctly! All in all, I lucked out big time. My brother hadn't even realized I'd left. For the record, the zip ties and worm drive clamps are PO fixes, and will be re-engineered. The engine is filthy from sitting. I need some TLC time with it. Here's the broken part:

Yes, that's what I'm doing, but I didn't have any pics of it. I have the alternator bracket and turnbuckle from the top pic (sold individually if you like). Also, you would get a non-reverse rotation WP... the 5.0 is reverse rotation, but I get what you mean.

I'd recommend something like this: You can also move the tensioner, but it looks ugly to me, just get rid of the heavy thing... from : http://www.marchperf.com/pg30.html#elecwp

Hmmm, couple of things, I agree completely with everything GR8White had to say about your engine combination. *GR8White, don't feel like I'm stepping on toes here, you obviously know your stuff. You have a far more extreme car than I've ever built. 9.0's with a slipping belt... jeez! * On the subject of the hydraulic roller lifters: like any mechanical part exposed to friction, they do develop wear patterns. The wear patterns typically experienced with the 302HO lifters are almost always minimal. It is standard practice in the Mustang world to reuse them when swapping out cams. The only people I know that changed them out, did it because they wanted all new parts, not because they had to. I've reused the lifters on a 140,000 mile motor putting in .550" lift camm, with no issues after 10,000 miles driving it. I planned on replacing those, but had no problems and kept them. Obviously, trash them if they look damaged or they collapse, or if you're building a .600" lift monster. I've only seen one seized roller on a friends car. He didn't like to change his oil.

BRAAP, no harm done. Now that all is right in the world I think I'll go to bed dreaming of 10,000rpm streetcars...

I forgot to mention my friend's 91 coupe ran a 12.1, N/A with 3.08 gears and that Lunati cam combo. That was without any tuning at all. Unless your heads are already ported, I wouldn't even waste the time porting E7's. You can reuse the roller lifters if they are in good condition. The factory intake, GT40, Edelbrock, etc are all long runner intakes. The box style intakes that bolt onto the lower intakes are short runner intakes Long runner Short runner GR8White, out of curiousity, what are you running now with the YS?

So you want to swap a ROTARY into your Z! (how-to)

It's so wee!!! -
Wow, that 7950gt for $239 is a great deal. You wouldn't have any problems playing those games with that card, you could probably max out the settings. For reference, my 6800gt plays both acceptably.

No sweat, it's all in how you take things. Now that you mention Formula cars, I forgot the DFV. Pretty much unattainable, but at least they are making them again.

Uhhh, that stings a bit...

1. 4 rotor. There is plenty of room in there. Hell, make it a 6 rotor. 2. The FJ has already been done, but I'd like to see a really sick FJ20ET turbo in a Z, shootin' flames and all - 500hp min. 3. An Infiniti Indy V8 would keep it in house Nissan. (700hp!) 4. VW I5 TDI from the Euro-EuroVan (Euro-squared?) Potentially 350-400hp, super mileage and tons of torque. You can hardly tell they're diesel. Would actually be a smart choice. 5. Vita-mix 5000; they have a Datsun attachment, right?

Just Edelbrock Performers with the 1.90 valves. Yes, his short block was all factory. We checked the clearance with clay and it wasn't even close. There are other heads out there now that flow even better than the old Performers, and still give plenty of clearance with factory pistons. We built that motor almost ten years ago. If you plan on getting much more serious with your engine, it would be worth it to just build it to handle larger valves and higher lift cams. Maybe even build a stroker motor...

Here's another thumbs up for the 51012. I put one in my buddy's car, along with Edelbrock heads and a ported GT40. It is a deceptive cam. It idles a little choppy, but sounds great. Initially I was disappointed test driving it. The cam pulls about the same as factory, no more power - no less. Cross that magical 4000 rpm line and it's like the gates of hell just opened up. The motor gets this roar, and screams to redline like a freight train. It's an excellent hot street cam, and actually drives nice considering it's specs. Personally, I have a custom ground FTI cam waiting to go in my motor.

Interesting aero design on WRX
Sven replied to thehelix112's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
I've found some goodies that pertain: Now, before the panty-bunching begins: I'm aware that an Evo and WRX are different cars. Overlay their basic shapes over each other, and it's apparent this rally rat race b/w Subura and Mitsubishi has produced nearly identically shaped(ly) cars with different front ends and taillights. The side shots show the extreme similarity in windshield and C-pillar angles, which should make roof/spoiler aero comparisons somewhat worthwhile. I'm still making sense of this, Cd appears to be a draw. ...lil spoiler adding downforce?(negative lift) Undertrays and diffusers may come into play here also. It also smoothes airflow onto that grab handle, I mean wing It would be really nice to have the same wind tunnel pics of a WRX w/o the funny lil spoiler. That would take this from conjecture to a fair comparison.
