Interesting rumor posted by hutchensce
Sven replied to grumpyvette's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
This has been fairly common in the Ford world too. You'd be surprised if you learned how many of the aftermarket SBF aluminum heads were made by one manufacturer. Most customers spec their own details, like port and chamber cc, but the R&D and dyno work is done there. There are some brands that are essentially identical. -
Ezzzzzzz, I may be interested in your extra set.
-
Yes they do. There is also at least a $150 price difference, which is $600 for a set. That's alot of cheddar.

BMW E30: Gurus needed, electrical issue with 318
Sven replied to Sven's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
As kind of a follow up to my story, I sold the car the next day; to a Datsun guy! Turns out the kid just totalled his '79 ZX with 70k miles. We bored his dad while we ran on about Z's... I felt good for helping out a fellow Datsun nut who was down on his luck, I turned a buck, and got rid of the car so I could move-without junking it. Win, win, win. -
Don't know if anyone has seen these yet. Pretty cool if you can't score a decent set of old (sigh) JDM wheels. Brandy new, I didn't see this in any of the SEMA pics, maybe I just missed it. Their "Wide Track" wheels would also be cool if you wanted 18"s. (clicky) Axis Oldskool - A stylish 15x8 tuner wheel... Wide Tracks: Axis Widetrack - The pinnacle of our Maxis Lip technology... . .

I'm just a rock star. Yeah, not sure why that happens, but everything is fine when I open my inbox. So- no big deal, it's been that way for almost a year I think.

paint schemes...urban, patina, camo...pics, ideas
Sven replied to OlderThanMe's topic in Body Kits & Paint
It's showing up in my browser right now. It's just a linked image, maybe you have some sort of ad/pop-up filter blocking it. It's just a pic of a Porsche 550 Spyder, James Dean style. -

Soon my 240 will be joining this crazy little paint club. I've been keeping it under wraps while I wait to move. I had been planning to do this for a couple of years to my truck, but potential resale value scared me away. I bought the 240 with the intention of making it into my urban assault vehicle. Most people will think I'm nuts, but it will make me grin ever time I walk out to the car. That's what matters, isn't it? On a semi-related note, I may be purchasing a deuce & half soon too... If you dig the Volksrods, do a search for "Rat Patrol". It's been chopped and narrowed. Also, several years ago one of the Kit Car magazines had a project car with riveted on Alum panels. It was a Porsche 550 spider that was widened and put on a Lotuse Elise chassis with a Corvair engine. It was damn cool, and ended up looking like a suit of armor with the overlapping aluminum sheet. I can't remember the name to Google it. If you look at the pic below I'm sure you can imagine what it looked like. -

Here's a link to 4 FCR41 flat slide carbs set up for an A-series Nissan on Yahoo japan. - サニ - A type FCR41 used item - I'm really not liking that ridiculous neck down and sharp turn to the intake flange. Adding a little length to the intake runners would have worked out much better IMHO.

Hey guys, just found this on Yahoo.JP! It's an '86 EFI Y44E from a President. It looks to have some kind of TBI- yech (stage 1 of performance mods to TBI: remove TBI). 2 days are left on the auction if anyone is a quick wheeler & dealer. It's at around $850 right now, not including shipping . I saved a pic in my album for HybridZ posterity. * * * H 252 President engine 180860 & * *

I just saw this ad and almost had a heart attack. I assumed a typo or translation bug. I was wrong... 430 L type engine L20 130 fair ready Z and the like

Don't change that VC, it looks awesome!

Yeah, if there was an LY setup attached, it would definitely be worth it. And Alan T. (HS30H) would probably already own it!

Hmmm. Thought we could get away easy there... I'd try picking up a spare Idle Air Valve from the junkyard and swapping that out. I'm not sure how many Nissan vehicles used the same model valve (my Nissan FI experience is very limited). Most manufacturers have the same, or at least an interchangeable one, installed in their entire model range. Maybe you can find the correct parameters for it and test it electrically.

That, my friend, is nuts. I bet the wheelies are fun!

That same seller also has these. They're the JDM-est! Hilarious.

Here's a link to start you off. Custom Fiberglass dash progress. Search a bit. Terry O (BlueovalZ) explains his methods in several threads. Years ago he actually explained to me on the phone how to do his floral foam method (back when you couldn't just get his hard earned knowledge for free on the internet). You've got the basic idea. Personally, I would make a mold, to keep the part as light as possible. Go to your local bookstore and find a book on the subject that explains it in a way that makes sense to you. "RaceCar Fiberglass Construction" is one, there several other good ones. I've seen a few websites that detail the methods very well too. There are a couple of ways to make FG parts, it all depends on how crazy you want to get with it.

Check out these prototype brakes
Sven replied to mason4300's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I do definitely agree with all the statements made about pedal feel. My truck has a drive by wire throttle, but it's kind of transparent. It's not as bad as I expected. You feel the vehicle torque over and the chassis vibrates as you rev. It would be different with brakes. I don't know that the sensation of "slowing" is enough to help you modulate your braking accurately. I just have faith that it won't just be an on/off switch with anti-lock to save you. (I hope) We've already over-complicated it. Actually this simplifies things. For all intents and purposes vehicles built today have two braking systems. Crap like this is what makes new cars so damn heavy. No more ABS computer and the rats nest of hydraulic lines and sensors to it. No more brake lines and attendant hardware, just a wire that you can route anywhere without needing a bender. No issues of fluid boiling. I particularly like the fact that through the magic of simple lever/inclined plane physics, it actually progressively applies more stopping friction as you brake. With present braking systems it takes incrementally greater applied force to brake more. (why isn't there some sort of radially floating caliper that takes advantage of this principle already?) You can bemoan the marching on of technology, but I've owned more than one vehicle with 4 wheel drum brakes. I'm damn glad 4 wheel discs became the standard. -Tucker got his way! It's all but impossible to buy a car without ABS today, it's here to stay. This improves upon that. It still remains to be seen if this functions as well as they claim. The OEM's will not release this if any safety/emergency braking issues cannot be addressed. They can't afford to. They have no problem selling you a vehicle that barely runs, but if people die, they have to answer for it. That = $$$. As Mopar69 said, locking up is not a measure of braking. Any piece of crap car can lock up the brakes. This is not proof of braking ability. Baer used to have a very good spiel about this in their old paper catalog. If you lock up the brakes, your tires no longer have traction. It's all about walking that tight rope just before lockup. -
Check the seal of the rubber boot (and not the hood... j/k) between the AFM and intake/throttle body. Any leaks there will cause the ECM to see a different value compared to actual airflow past the AFM. Also ensure the Idle Air Valve/motor is sealed well. Just today I resolved both of these problems with a BMW I was selling. It was an '84 with the same Bosch Jetronic setup that you have. Other manifold vacuum leaks can screw up your idle too.

Silent, don't sweat it. It sucks, but if you've got more important things in life right now, they take precedence. I got out of Z's in '97 or so, and knew I'd always get another one. I've fallen back in with a vengeance, and now have the money to make the Z I always wanted back then. Life comes around.

Unscrew the adjuster screw, shim it with washers to get it to a range you want. Reassemble.

Thanks Sumo! Damnit, I just bought 20 Hot Wheels cars. They were, uh, for my nephew... Okay, maybe some of them. I made sure to get an extra Z so he can have one like mine. He ought to like that. My friend Troy's kid was our car-guy experiment. We screened his Hotwheels and Match box cars. We only got him cool cars. -Old musclecars, classics, sports cars, and the really neat bizarro custom Hotwheels. No mini-vans, Nascar, or cheesed out pimp or ricey rides. Our goal was to make him appreciate cool cars early on. By the age of three he was an expert. I used to test him, "Trent, pass me that car, the white Porsche". He didn't miss, "No silly, that's a Charger." He can line 'em up and tell you what they all are, and even has his own taste in cars. Mission accomplished. Cool kid, wish I had friends like him when I was young.
