Wolson, Not sure what you're speaking of... Haven't seen anything myself recently... I think we should all act as we would in person and try to have a good exchange of opinions, facts, and comments without getting to vulger or getting to uptight... There's got to be a balance. Damn, hell, piss, freakin', friggin'... I don't know... I pretty much use every word invented by the Navy and improved by the Marines, but I personally "try" to keep it in check on the public HybridZ board unless some tool steps too far... Speaking of... This message is for 1 fast z - What YOU can do, Brian is take a 7 day time out.. You've pushed one time to many... Mike
  2. Pretty sure that's the same photo I saw in this months road and track... It's better looking that the GT-R... Mike
  3. Well I think it all boils down to what you want to do... Jim is not mechanically inclined. He doesn't want to spend time tinkering under the hood, or working on his cars at the track. To that end, his GT3 has been dead nuts reliable and only once straded him at the track when some minor issue caused his tranny not to work getting the car back onto the trailer at the end of a weekend... This is after 3 hard years of tracking that GT3 for at least 25 days per year. All Jim does is replace the brake pads and tires regularly, and have the rotors swapped and fluids flushed on schedule... Jim is a driver, not an engineer or mechanic. He knows what he wants to do, and what he doesn't want to do and he's damned GOOD at what he "does" do. So modern hardware best suits his needs. Again, it all boils down to what you want to do... Work on them or drive them... Mike
  4. I don't watch Forza, but the Lou G. I'm referring to is ALMS race car driver and owner of LG Motorsports, Lou Gigliotti. Mike
  5. Jim still has this beauty too... 4 days old and no graphics... This started my desire to own the car I now have... With Graphics and ready to romp...
  6. So what was done to the new 2008 Z06 that it didn't already have??? On most new Corvettes there are a few areas that will crop up under heavy track day abuse. The new, massive brake system on the Z06 really isn't all that good. Most serious track junkies will replace them, as was the case on Jim's new car... The upgrade was to the Brembo 15inchers up front and I believe the 14.5 inch rears. The leafspring/shock setup was also scrapped for LG's new coil over/external shock setup. New hubs/bearings/ drop-spindles were also used to get the geometry correct for the suspension. Another area that I simply hated on my old C5 was carried over to the new C6... The "torque tube". Well, LG Motosports replaced Jim's with a carbon fiber unit that should be bullet proof when fighting off the torque that the new cam/header/ head mods gave the car, along with software tuning to improve and take advantage of the internal changes... Another area where new Z06s suffer is GMs pathetic attempt at a drysump. LG replaced Jim's oil pan, lines, and dry sump tank with custom pieces. The oil pan is a custom one off design, and Jim has one of two in the world. LG has the other on his ALMS race car. So, beyond the aero mods (Straight from the SWC and ALMS parts bin) and safety mods (Seats/ harness/ roll bar not seen in the pics and installed after the test session), the car is pretty much ready. You'll notice in the pics there are two different sets of wheels... one set is the red lipped custom forge lines. The other is a set of CCWs that Lou mounted some ALMS slicks on for the test. I'm sure there are other items I'm forgetting, but this little red corvette is now perfect and ready for track days up and down the east coast... LG says the car should be putting about 540HP to the rear wheels. Jim should get the dyno sheet and all other pertinent data when the car comes home on Tuesday. Mike
  7. After I posted the pics of Jim's little red Zcar, I got a lot of pms from people asking why on earth Jim would sell such a good looking project car... Guy's this is a Zcar site and all, and we love them.. But there are "other" projects to fall in love with too... Like this, Jim's latest ultimate track build 2008 Z06... And the final product... Jim Actually flew out to Texas last weekend and spent a couple days with Lou G. and his team testing the car at Texas Motorsport Ranch. The car comes home from Texas on Tuesday, and Jim loads it up and will have it out at Mid-Ohio Friday - Sunday. Mike
  8. Congrats Scottie! I hope I can retire early and enjoy some of life before I'm to old to take advantage! Mike
  9. What I've noticed with my own 911TT is that the "coast down" is rather long and takes quite some distance to get back to "sane-Jail" speeds. The really wierd thing is that the windnoise in the Porsche is really reduced compared to the 168mph run I did in the Zcar, which was deafening... The 1995 Mustang SVT we had was rock solid stable at 140MPH and was dead quiet. Couldn't imagine having taken my M Roadster that high in speed... Didn't seem like it would have been happy or stable at that speed... Mike
  10. This is an excellent example of a member providing clear direction on what info is required to help another member out in this particular issue... Wonder53, this thread reminds me of a joke... Sadsack goes around complaining about the fact that he never wins the lottery, shaking his fist to the heavens, he says "God, why not me?"... One day god has enough, zings his arse with a lightning bolt and says "Sadsack, you have to meet me half way... BUY A TICKET!!!" Give us the specific details needed and your answers might just appear. Mike
  11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_0pdtyNBiU Really gotta make sure you don't get LIFT... Mike
  12. I'll caveat this by saying I only know about the setup I have on my Porsche... We upped our wastegate springs from the OEM units to 15# units and the results were dramatic. I'm not personally a fan of boost controllers, so spending the money on the strings and doing the mod, along with a 5 bar fuel pressure regulator and custom tune to take advantage of all the mods, made all the difference in the world. Mike
  13. Couple reasons that worked for you guys... You have a lower profile than the test mule did, and that lower distance to the ground helped the overall aero overcome the big gaping hole... Fill that hole in and it would do even better... And jt1 is correctabout the other differences... The wheel/tire combo raised the test mule significantly, and as we all know, the underside of an S30 is a bad place to let air hang... Mike
  14. Every track I've ever been to uses the standard "PIT IN" signal, which is left hand out the window and extended HIGH into the air making a FIST. Using lights of any kind can get you blackflagged. Mike
  15. Fabman, You've been given a ton of useful info and you also need to read the forsale rules and post them in there. This thread is CLOSED! Mike
  16. Big Phil was gone? Strange, but we didn't miss him! Throw soft balls and we'll send them over the fence, Phil! Get some sleep. Mike
  17. Looking good. Thanks for reminding me... Got to order a set!! Mike
  18. And in the future this is exactly what I'd expect anyone "selling" an item to do... Makes it cleaner and allows each vendor their own space to sell their parts... We also encourage OTHER VENDORS not to post in competitors threads... We will DELETE any of that non-sense. Mike
  19. Yea Sparks, I was gonna remind him that we both own the same truck, so he might want to rethink his qoute! He's probably sportin' spinners, chrome, and hydraulic ride adjustment, along with 8400# of AV gear in that Dodge Cummins! Mike
  20. This is the same for the C5 and C6 Corvette. Although it does help balance the weight out, it's still a lot of weight and I want to better understand how they made this nearly 3900# car do what it does. That's the most impressive piece of this Nissan puzzle. Mike
  21. Dan I've had a Dodge Commins Diesel 3500 series for 3 years now and just got hit with my first major repair, which is a common known issue on the ball joints failing... Other than that, the truck has 68K miles on it and has gone thru one set of front rotors/pads and one set of rear pads. The truck performs great, has tons of interior space in the quad cab version (not the megacab, either) and is a great overall vehicle, and I say that NOT being a dodge man. I'm knocking down about 18mpg around town and up to 21 on the highway. The thing is a mega work horse and I expect to keep this truck for another 10 years. Mike
  22. Fortunately I don't have to live by "david's law" and can keep the car of my choosing. Isn't America a great place to live? And you won't catch me in "tight jeans, white cowboy hats and American flag button down shirts." While you're stereotyping, David, Why not complete it with Gold chains and open shirts to flash fake chest hair? Mike
  23. 112mph limiter is on the Japan only version. That limiter is not supposed to be on the US Spec cars. This has been discussed before. I think Austin hit it on the head. I still think this car will be as rare as any mark4 supra, and at the markup, all the sudden you're getting into Viper/ZR-1/and other exotic new car price territory. It also will make some step back and see what used car prices in that category will get you in the line of a Ferrari or Lambo. I've been hammered offline a few times because I've spoken up about my personal opinion of this car... Let me say this now... I APPLAUD Nissan for building this car and bringing it to market. I think it's great that they're raising the bar. But don't think that your'e gonna see a bunch of them in the hands of regular buyers. They're bringing this car to market at a very bad period in US economic times. I think they'll sit for a while, and the 1200-2000 (I've heard both numbers as "limited release numbers per year) that come over per year will still sell at a marked up premium. I want to see one in person before I further pass judgement on it, as the 350Z "finally" started to grow on me a couple years ago... I was gungho enough about the performance specs of the GT-R to seriously (Very seriously) spend an afternoon in a dealership with my checkbook bartering to buy onto the waitlist, so it's not like I "hate" the car. And anyone who'se seen any of my video or pics knows that it would be put to good use, just as my Datsuns, Vette and Porsche have been used... A penis car to me, is one that sits as a garage queen and never gets used as intended. I don't think there's a car I've owned that qualifies. Mike
