  1. that's fine... mine used to be lower. see below
  2. Well, I drove up to Temecula and picked up a pair of their muffs yesterday for a $20 cash discount. They look to be very nice quality and are fairly compact. I tucked one up under the rear of my car and it looks nice. I got the center in / offset out so that they can tuck way up under the car. I will let you guys know how they sound when I finally take the time to get an exhaust fabbed and get the car running!
  3. My diff is a 3.90. It has yellow junkyard pen on it that says '82 280ZX'.
  4. Exactly right... nobody's going to spend the money to find the right metal properties they will need (going through countless samples, plus CNC costs, etc) when Phantom Grip's done all the work for them. We know that we can get a PG for 290-350 but we have no idea how much it'd cost to try and make one ourselves. Better to just pay PG back for the work they've done to bring us the product.
  5. Okay, so straight lines seem to work... now how about full throttle coming out of a low speed hairpin on the autocross track? that's where I'm really looking for LSD effectiveness..
  6. Yeah, a GN motor would be nice.. I've seen one with an Oldsmobile Fireball aluminum v8 and have a friend who is doing an SR20DET swap. It will all be done right - believe me, nothing on this car is rigged at all. There's a guy here who goes by something like sss510six who has a nitrous injected turbo 3.1 liter stroked L6 in his.
  7. It can be done... I've seen one and seen it run at the strip with my own eyes. I had some pictures but the link has been lost.
  8. There really are few questions that can be asked about the typical JTR V8 swap - what motor mounts, etc, so on? that haven't been asked before. Everybody's pretty far along in their V8 swap here and only needs help on the other things. This is the main forum out of all of them and most of us know that our questions will be answered a lot faster and will get input from a lot more diverse people if we post them here.
  9. It is possible.... someone has stuffed in a Jaguar V12 before. Of course, you'd better have some serious fabrication skills and the tools to back them up.
  10. All 240SX diffs have a finned cover. The LSDs came in cars equipped with the HICAS rear-steer.
  11. You can check out their claims here... http://macperformance.com/macstore/mustang/flowpath.asp They are fairly close to me so I may just drive up and pick up a pair... my friend has done direct business with them a ton of times so i might be able to get a slight hook up. i dunno. i just can't help but think of them as a mustang only muffler??
  12. Yeah, I know. They're Mustang mufflers, right? Well, they seem to have good specs and I think they might have a good sound behind an SBC.... what do you guys think? http://www.macperformance.com/macstore/mustang/flowpath.asp

    Spintech Mufflers

I want to hear some clips of your car, z ya. I was actually just up in stockton four or five months ago taking a look at the university of the pacific. Hated it, hehe.
  14. Jeff, good to see you here. I, too, am only 17. I'm afraid I've got quite a jump on you as I have been obsessed with Zcars for three years or so and have owned my '71 since September 2000. My V8 swap is almost running and I've completely gone through every part of the car in that time.
  15. Hey mike... I have noticed you mention an LSD insert made by Reider Racing a few times. Have you spoken to them? When will they be available? Do you know how much? I'm just curious if they'll go in the Quaife range or something more reasonable.. even if they are up at like $600-700 I may just go with the Phantom Grip. Thanks!

  17. You guys are all so critical - so what if he wants an IRS in his old Stang. That's why we're here, right? To do wacky stuff to cars! Don't tell me that putting a Chevrolet V8 into a Datsun isn't a slightly weird thing to do, because it is. He just wants to do something unique, something trick
  18. *nod* I think that's the setup my friend kurt had in his fastest street car in SD trans am... a 434 small block.
  19. I don't like them personally, they are old school and not in a good way. I don't think they do anything for the Z's looks and being inside a car with rear windo louvers gives it a really dated feel, which isn't cool because the Z's interior can be timeless with a few mods here and there (seats, wheel, gauges).
  20. Check to be sure that nothing is blocking the fuel to one of the carbs... i would remove the metal fuel line that wraps around the engine and blow it out with compressed air. Check the flot bowl and the hose that connects it to the metering part of the carb. All I can think is that one carb is somehow stopped up and all the fuel is going to the other carb.

    Spintech Mufflers

I have heard them on a Ranger V6, which normally sound like crap, but they made it sound wonderful. I was extremely interested in a set of them with an X for my exhaust until I spoke to Ed Hanson of Ed Hanson's Performance Exhaust. His shop is the number 1 shop in the San Diego area and he has been in business for quite a long time. I really trust him more than anyone else as he has lots and lots of first hand experience. He has a couple of patents and one pending for exhaust related ideas. He told me that Spintechs sound really bitchin' and perform very well untill you get on the highway and cruise at a set speed. At this point they will stop evacuating all the exhaust gases and the gases will 'build up' in the spin traps in the mufflers. He has installed six or seven sets of them on different cars and has had every one come back complaining of loss of power or a gas pedal delay on the freeway. I guess this has turned me off of Spintechs. Everything else I have heard about them is good.
  22. Pull the dash out enough so that you're sure it'll come out.. then get the cage welded in with the dash mostly pulled so you'll have the room once it's in This sounds like a tricky proposition to me, considering how the dash is installed in the car... I'm not even sure if it CAN be removed after a cage has been welded in before it...
  23. Can you post a link? I can't find it for the life of me. Not on the front page at all...
