Thanks got this fixed and it was a vacuum issue. works great now... just have to figure out the AC now. i have a compressor on teh way hope it works. its damn hot.
Kinda old but instead of making a new one i will bring this one back.
recently bought a z and i'm daily driving it now. i have the exact same problem with mine as stated in the original post. I have a pretty good all over car vibration from 55MPH up under acceleration and deceleration. but nothing when i'm just cruising under power. so another words if i accelerate from 55 or completely let of the gas above 55 i get the vibration. if i'm cruising at say 70 i have nothing as long as i don't accel or decel.
I looked under the car and the only thing i could find was the yoke that goes into the tranny has significant play up and down. i thought for sure it was a u joint as i had this problem on my truck and found all my drive shaft u joints completely shot. when i look all my driveshaft and half shaft u joint looked good with no play. the diff is securely mounted.
Is there a bearing in the tail housing of the tranny that could be worn out causing this? easy to fix? way off base? what else could it be. i dont want to tear into it until i'm relatively sure what it is.
If i grab the driveshaft right behind the ujoint i can move the shaft up and down and side to side maybe 1/8 inch. total. bad????
I am also looking for one. im getting vibes in mine. willing to pay shipping cost to 84075.
sorry for the jack ;> of course ash will have dibs on first tranny '>
Dave,
I moved mine to the firewall. i had the exact same problem with mine and when we blew cold air on it the 6th cylinder would come back. basically just extended the harness about 12 inches and mounted it on the firewall on the intake side of the engine away from the heat. It was a temp fix but have not had a problem with it since.
Thanks guys that was it. found a broken vac line at the solenoid under the vac bottle. Next question would be.... if this stuff wasn't hooked up and functioning would it effect the AC system so that it wouldn't take a charge? I was thinking that if the compressor was good it would take a charge no matter what. but this now has me thinking.
Before i start ripping the dash apart i was wondering if anyone has had this problem. I searched the haynes manual i have along with another 280 z book i have a did not find anything on how the fan selection controls work. I also found several topics in search but nothing specific to my problem. My fan works fine just cant select where the air goes. it just comes out of the middle vents no matter what is selected. also don't have any heat just ambient air. I'm guessing the controller in the ducting is not working. is this controlled by vacuum? where should i start??? I want to fix my AC but not until i have this issue resolved.
This is the closest topic that i could find to the issue i'm having. but it didn't answer my question.
My fan works! but the air that comes out of the vent is ambient temp no matter what temp setting i have it set to. also the air doesn't move when i select defrost heat or cool. My question is if everything is hooked up right what could be causing this? are the switches vacuum controlled? The PO did tell my the Vacuum line for the AC that is supposed to be hooked up to the intake is bad and needs to be replaced. could this be why the controls don't work?
Once i get this figured out i will feel more comfortable about buying AC components to get the AC up and running.
Took the Z to a car show and got beat out of the top 20 by a bone stock cavalier!!! WTF oh yea there were only 24 cars ;>
The crowd obviously didnt like imports ;>
Getting my windshield installed tomorrow!!! it may actually look like a complete car soon. last time it actually looked like an assembled car was 2001!!!!! cant wait. im now planning things like alignment, balancing tires, dyno time.
Do you have any before and after pics? I ordered mine with the gas cap cover deleted. Mine also seem to turn out more where they meet the rocker. Thats really the only place you can tell mine are wider.
Here's my before pic.
Another shot before primer showing how they curved out at the rocker.
Yea i hear ya ... something about having tons of money in the car and not wanting to blow it up just yet. needs to go to the dyno before i start messin around.
On a side note.
I got my rear glass in... what a *****. That's a 3 person job!!! Also got the seats fully installed. Wednesday next week will have the front glass in. !!!!
I used the string method. Once i got the hang of it the attempt when it went in was pretty easy. Would have been allot easier with 3-4 guys pushing on the glass and holding it in place.
