  1. If you look at both of those pictures, the scoops are placed behind the radiator, so the effect they have on aiflow through the nose is negligible. The air that is scooped is already well past the point of being useful, and would have gone over the car if not redirected into the engine compartment. I don't think you'll be able to notice a difference, though theoretically you have increased the amount of lift. I personally think it looks pretty good, which is the point of most scoops out there anyways.
  2. Could you not use the old jack trick of driving up onto some 2x4s to get your car to sit a little higher?
  3. The technical answer is that modifications don't increase a car's value. Usually all that someone will be able to take a loan out for is the blue book value, which doesn't take engine swaps or other changes into account. Therefore book value would be a good place to start, and then add on whatever extra you think it would take for you to part with it. The problem with a project like this is that it takes a very special kind of buyer to be willing to lay out as much money as you think the car may be worth. You're going to have to find someone that is interested in everything you've done to the car (not a purist) and has a lot of cash built up, so they don't have to worry about trying to get a loan. Either way, good luck with the sale. And if you have any problems seeling it, I've got a few hundred bucks I would be more than willing to trade for the car.
  4. I ordered one to replace mine that just went out. It should be here by Friday and I'll let you guys know how it goes.
  5. I don't mean to drag up an old thread, but in this month's Grassroots Motorsports (the one with the Viper on the cover) the internet car of the month is a 280ZX with blacked out b-pillars. It really finishes the look of the car. http://www.grmotorsports.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=9749&highlight=280zx There is also this one. http://www.grmotorsports.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=14266&highlight=280zx
  6. I think that would look a lot better if it were molded in properly. IMO it looks like it was just glue on as an afterthought. Interesting idea, just I think the execution is lacking a little.
  7. I too think the long hood adds to the "sports car" look of the ZX. You could always do the reverse of a chop and make the roofline higher.
  8. Hopefully it turns out to be better than their Paint and Body special edition, which was little more than a huge ad for Goodmark Industries.
  9. I don't think that there is anyone that is going to argue you can't do it, but how pretty do you want it to be? Obviously if you go adding pieces here and there, then the stock upholstery isn't going to cover your new additions. Duct tape does make a nice friction surface, though.
  10. Very nice work. I'm sure you'll love having a sbc ZX, and it has the allure of rhd. Just be careful pulling out to pass on those 2 lane highways!
  11. Those would look really sweet if they were blended in to smooth the transition from the hood a little better. I've been looking for something to change with my hood along with adding a scoop... might be a nice touch.
  12. It's definitely got potential, but from looking at the pictures, I'd have some concerns about fit, to say the least.
  13. Did anyone catch the vent wings on the hood popping up with lights underneath them? Talk about extra lift...
  14. LSX= Ls1/ls2/ls6... and of the newer LS Series engines. As for your car choices, the first gen 280Z path has been travelled many more times than the 300ZX swap. It's by no means impossible, in fact there are a couple memberes on here with a sbc into a 300zx, but the first gen is by far more popular. An extra bonus, the Jags book focuses specifically on this style of Z.
  15. lol... awesome stories Phantom. I'm sure we all have a couple similar experiences.
  16. I've had similar problems several times and every time it had been a problem with an electical connection. Check the battery, replace if needed, and then check the wire that runs from there to the starter, replace if needed, and check all the wires that branch off of that connection. If you use a systematic approach, you should find the problem in no time.
  17. As with any legal questions, check your state's statutes. In Colorado, it's legal... if your car is a Hot Rod (1958 or older). I'm sure CA's laws are even more strict than that.
  18. You've also gotta keep in mind that here in Colorado, we're definitely starved for air. Also, an N/A Car is going to lose more power at this altitude than one with forced induction.
  19. There was an article in Sport Compact Car a couple months ago (actually it was an editorial in "Technobabble" IIRC) that explains the basic concepts of dogs. It helped me go from knowing absolutely nothing (not even of their existance) to somewhat kind-of maybe knowledgable. I've looked for a link online but haven't found anything on their site. I'll have to go through the stacks of magazines to track it down.
  20. In theory, if the engine were good, then there shouldn't be a difference. But, if there is a compression leak, I think the slower speed would give the air more time to leak out, resulting in a lower reading. Also, everywhere that I've read always says to bring the engine up to normal operating temperature first.I don't know what effect that would have, though. Anyone more knowledgable than me want to chime in?
  21. Hey Slow, you're in Colorado Springs? What do you drive?
  22. I think I'm with everyone saying I'm sorry you had to let it go.
  23. If you do get them, be sure to put in a write up about how they work out. I've seen those auctions many times and wondered....
