Well I know that tony, I guess I wasn't specific enough. This picture specifically showed the SPACING of the ports, not just the size of the ports. I luckily already new the port diameter dimensions.

That post should be it's own sticky tony! Regarding my first hand experience, injectors don't get really hard to handle at idle unless 1 of 2 possible things are happening: 1. The injectors are cheap, and just plain suck at being consistant at low pulse widths, which means you don't want them anyways 2. They're insanely large, like over 1000cc large That being said I've witnessed AEM systems running over 2,000cc idling wonderfully. It just takes a decent injector and a decent EFI system that's tuned well. I was actually just talking today with drummingpariah about this same issue. He's 100% a carb guy and loves how well motorbike carbs work for their application. And in many ways I understand where he's coming from, but I also think that EFI is much more well rounded. You CAN tune a car to take to a race track and still drive home, without sacrificing much along the way, except for "complexity" that I think EFI much more than makes up for when it comes to ease of tuning it RIGHT.

I was just thinking about how well the atmosphere of hybridZ shows through at the BBQ's I've put together. People show up willing to explain how they did something, how they overcame obstacles, and what they would have done differently. They don't sit there and say "well it's all on the site, search, good luck". And I think that's because in the end we all WANT to share what we know, and if it's in a friendly attitude like in a park while having a beer, everything is kosher. But if you take the same person they might not be the most positive responder to questions because of the manner in which people ask, and the atmosphere around them. I don't think the website is broken, the people are genuinely wonderfully awesome. So one could only fathom that the difference is in the person asking questions. We've had people see the meet going on and call friends who then show up in a 510 or some other car and they ask and we pour out information. It's the same thing here really. Show up, be nice, ask like a GUEST to a party, and we WILL pour out.

Gawd, the worst thing about driving a 280ZX is that inevitably, every time I drive through a ghetto area some people who seems to have just woken up from a drug induced coma honks their horn and upon me looking says "I love your car" or "my ----- had one of those" etc. Now, when I drive my S30 around, I get looks from all sorts of other types. That's usually the fun stuff. I think my favorite was when a guy at a gas station was like "hey I had one of those when I was a kid" then upon looking inside said "are you gonna put the dash back on?" But yea, SO many people talk about how "when they owned one" it would bury the speedo right out of the factory, completely stock!... -
Mind sharing what PnP charged you and what you got? Seems like most PnP's had gotten so bad I never wanted to go to one again for a big purchase like that.

Gosh, I've been here since 04' and still feel like a "noob" from time to time. And like carjway stated, I made my first post almost immediately after creating an account. And I don't have any recollection of being flamed!!! Amazing. I think the problem is never with the way we're treating new people, but the quality of the new people we're seeing. It's much like a discussion I was having the other day with someone, about how a country with no laws isn't "free". In fact the lawless countries have some of the worst issues with the least free people on the planet. But then there's other places in the world where it's illegal to chew bubble gum, is that free? There always needs to be a balance of laws and authority. We need laws that help people perform the best that they can, and we need ways to enforce those laws so to help people WANT to follow them, not to find new ways around them. The laws on this site are well defined, clear, and to the point. And we have admins that uphold that law to great affect. Many of our admins that explain the search feature are the very people that hold the keys to information sometimes, but I think of it like going to a library and asking the librarian who happens to be chuck norris "do you guys have any workout DVD's?" Why would he SHOW you (which he could) how to work out, when he can just direct you to how to find it yourself. This is much like the whole "give a man a fish he'll eat for a day" proverb. We can't just spoon feed people, otherwise they'll be babies forever that **** in their pants and then proceed to stick their hands in it and wipe it on just about every surface within reach.

Once upon a time, I had a picture saved on my computer, that was a CAD style sketch of the OEM intake ports of a L engine, though I'm not positive on which head it was based on. It was a very handy picture as it seems sometimes hard to come by the port spacing when I'm looking for it. I've just spent the last 3 hours searching hybridz for it, I've looked through all the custom intake threads. I even found a reference of Ron saying he HAD the dimensions posted in his intake thread, and they're simply not there (possibly not anymore?). So has anyone see the picture I'm talking about? Any help in finding it or having it posted again?

For those curious, Ford racing is now providing supercharging kit for the 2011 that DOES NOT void the manufacture warranty and makes 525hp. I can't find it now, but I'd read that after the warranty period was over that the kit could be upgraded and put out a rated power of XXX... I'll post if I find it sometime. At any rate, this is awesome. Factory supported force induction on an engine that the engineers themselves say the weak link is the rods.

If you were to go the coyote route, I'd source the new getrag 6 speed if it's reasonably priced. Supposed to be much stronger than the old tremec's and shift much smoother.

Why do you think I'm so excited to be moving? I love the backroads around here. They're plentiful, and quite empty compared to the other side of the carquinez bridge where you can't go more than a mile without getting stuck behind a bicycle going 10mph, or a group of runners running a marathon. Today was the last hurray in moving the last of the stuff from the old apartment, I can't wait to sleep in on monday. Later this week I'll hopefully be moving the S30 up with my tools and I can start wrenching again.

^^^ What he said. The GN has a separated trunk, so mounting the tank and battery in there without covering them is fine. But in a hatchback rules say you must have your battery enclosed (depending on rules, but enough that many people go ahead and enclose them) and your tank be separated in some way as well. I personally would rather have the trunk space anyways... Comes in handy from time to time.

I used to live in Richmond just a few miles from that yard. The upside to that yard is that their entire inventory changes almost every month, so I pulled a lot of desirable parts from them, but the downside is that they'd nickle and dime you on everything. Even though a "cylinder head" might be $50 if you pulled one without pulling the cam, valves, valve springs, rockers, etc they'd charge you for all of it for a bill of over $200... I stopped going there because of it.

I'd... third that? Anyhoo, I'd change to a single groove for aesthetic reasons long before performance reasons. Something that many people think they get and yet fail to properly implement (myself included in this statement) is weight in relation to leverage. A 20 pound rim can actually "seem" lighter to your car than a 25 pound rim with it's weight more around the outside diameter. Leverage leverage leverage. The crank pull as tim stated is much smaller than a flywheel, and won't have a huge impact. And as stated, you want something out front that will DAMPEN vibrations, not help them come out more! All that said, if you're in the stock RPM range we're just splitting hairs aren't we?

Well this weekend (7th-10th) I'll be up in forrest hill camping at hell hole. Weekend after is when our official moving will be taking place. So unfortunately I'll have my hands full. So when do I get to see the car dan? Last we talked you said you were going to be doing MORE body work, saying something about being unhappy with it (says the man who has a car many drool over).

Don't pull the line at the regulator, that's normally a pita. Instead pull a line at the fuel rail input after the filter. I've done that to check pressure before, expect to spill a bit.

Because chassis mounting then becomes much more complicated. You now need reinforced mount points higher up, etc. If I was tube framing the chassis then sure, but I'm talking about using the OEM LCA mounts and keep the geometry relatively stock by maintaining similar LCA length. Thank you for the information on the wheel bearings though, I hadn't heard that. It's also good news about the Z32 brakes, since the 05 brakes (and even pads) are SO OUTRAGEOUSLY PRICED. Plus I'm not sure a 2200 pound S30 needs that big of pads, even with a 275+ tread. -
This move includes plans to save up to buy a place with a big garage. I don't even have my tools at our current place because it's a tiny apartment. This new place is a roomy duplex with lots of space outside as well, with wonderful neighbors. It's a good "while we're waiting" upgrade. We can live with it until we either save up more money or job situations improve a bit. Ironically though, many people from the bay area call it "cow town". It's ironic mostly because it's named after a guy, not what the town is known for. It's actually well known for it's extremely productive nut orchards. The name comes from a guy who was a general or something in the mexican military during the war here in california. His payment was land, and his only condition when selling the land to investors was to name their new town after him... I mostly just feel sorry for the guy since his name was cow... Kiwi303 ~ There's a bit of sarcasim in my post. I know I'm far from "in the country" but where I come from they think it is. I grew up able to see the bay bridge and the city of San Francisco when there wasn't fog in the way (which isn't often!). So now moving to a town with around 100k people, in a city that gives way to open orchards and hay fields... it's not "the city" anymore. The kinda funny thing though, is that where we are is a random little piece of land that's had the city slow crowded around it. The duplexes were built in the 20's or so, and so they have large open lawns surrounding them, and across the street is a huge housing tract, and we're less than a mile from the freeway, but between us and there is a shopping center. So it's even more "country" feeling that much of the city.

Just south of the freeway off alamo. Intended to mention that in the previous post. I was rushing out of work posting that. I know Vacaville isn't really a "small" town anymore, but it's certainly "country-living" for us city folk. If ya know what I mean.

So for those that know me, you might care (or not!) that I'm officially leave the "bay area" and moving up the road half way to sacramento in a wee 'ol farm town called Vacaville. No garage at the new place, but there's good people, a quality driveway, and such. Anyhoo, more details later. Just wanted to let you guys know.
