  1. Why not turn the boost up? It's easy and doesn't cost anything plus you have no hassle. But if you do 510six is right. A 25 shot of nitrous is on a forced induction motor is like running 50 on a NA motor (it doubles). Most people I've seen run nitrous on turbos is to spool them up.
  2. I'm a full time college student. My major is Health Science with a concentration in Pre- Physician Assistant. I'm not sure what I want to do after I graduate in a year. I'm still young (just turned 20 two months ago) so this may be a contributor on why I'm not sure on what I want to do with my life. I'm thinking about becoming a doctor in family practice or a professor at a college. If I want the easy way out I'll become a Physician Assistant because they still make very good money with less headaches. Oh for money for my z car, food, and tuition I do a little custom farming (mostly baling small square bails) for people.
  3. It's stock suspension and the struts on the back are alittle wore out. The front struts are just stock gabriels. I put buick t-type control arm rubber bushings that my brother-in-law had laying around on the struts to use as bump stops for the back. Tires are 235/60/15 mickey drag radials and 3.54 r200 lsd rear. I was leaving around 4 pounds, but i'm going to try to hold 6-7 pounds to get in the 1.5's.
  4. I do feel like a dumb@$$ for that "mistake." I swear I'm smarter than that. haha. I'm in college so during the two 16 week semesters I really don't do much except school work plus I'm three hours away from home. Since I have it fairly tuned in i want to start making it look nice like coating the headers and such. This is more of a testing year. This coming spring-summer I'm going to race a lot more now i that don't have to fool with it much.
  5. OK just an update. On oct. 10 i'm going to be running the car again. Last time for this year. I fixed the problem of it not revving above 6500 rpms. I thought it was fuel related but after thinking hard about it I decided to check ignition. It was a real dumba$$ mistake. So I'm moving my shift up to 7000. I added alittle more alcohol to the mixture for safety reasons and i might turn that little screw in a little on the wastegate. I'm going to try for a 1.55 60' and HOPEFULLY I get 137mph in the 1/4. I'll let you guys know the mistake. The numbers are real small on the digital 6 and kinda blurry and i had the rev limiter set at 6500 instead of 7500 . I checked the plugs first and then i checked the limiter. So i turned the limiter up to 7600 and just to make sure it was working ok i took it out for a test drive and took it to 7200.
  6. same here. I know a lot of camaro guys that had to dump money into them. Heck the 700r4 went out on our v6 chevy farm truck. If i were you I would buy a glide. I have 165 bucks in my glide (75 for glide, 30 for rebuild kit w/ red clutches, 60 to have a guy rebuild it) and i'm running 10's. The only thing i had to do is adjust the low band. I don't know if this is a fact or theory, but if you put a glide in a light car (around 3000) you will pick up on your e.t. over a 3 speed. I know of a couple cars where this is true. That is the ONLY thing changed was the tranny.
  7. What is your mph in the 1/8th? I'm going to try to get a 9 second run in october if i figure out whats causing it from not revving above 6400.
  8. OHH NOO!!! it is so nice to cruise on the street with that glide. 65 is about 3000. The stall keeps getting higher (about 4500 now) as i make more power and its an 8 inch converter. I'm planning on getting a 10 inch next summer thats about 3500.
  9. I cheated and put my brother-in-laws carb that was sent out to CSU on. It was set up for his procharged F1-R 72 monte. Its still rich (10.3) before the boost comes on because its not designed for a turbo, but its working for now and i drive it alot. I'm sending my carb out to CSU which will be my christmas present from my parents this year unless i find out the secret to getting it to work other than what i already did to it. I'm back at college now so i don't have time to play with my carb. The sad thing is I kinda want some more boost and its just SOOO easy to turn that little screw in on the wastegate. hehehe. But i'm sure my block is already screaming because of the pressure and i dont have money for the 388 i'm going to build. Hopefully it lasts alittle while but I have two strong old style 2 bolts that need splayed caps to take its place incase the 4 bolt wants to crack.
  10. 60' 1.73 1.63 1.62 1/8 6.69 6.55 5.56 mph 108.9 110.6 110.3 1000 8.63 8.51 8.50 1/4 10.38 10.21 10.23 mph 121.1 131.8 122.78 i had to let off at the end around the 1000 foot due to going lean. It may be loosing fuel pressure but i only kept my eyes on the a/f guage. going from the 1/8th mph it should be making around 595 at the wheels.
  11. I am sorry for not getting you guys videos soon enough, but here are some. Hope you like it. The camera is not that great so you really can't hear the turbo on it but the camera man said you could really hear it. If you watch close you can see the front wheels skimming. Sheetz gas is good.
  12. i drove it for about 30 minutes during a late afternoon (about a 85 and humid) and it stayed cool (175-180). the only time it got alittle hot(230) is when my friends came over and they all wanted rides so you know how that goes.b
  13. sorry about leaving you hanging. I went to the beach for a while before i go back to college. But its not looking good. the starter when to crap on the dyno so i didn't get any video. The car ran like crap and it wasn't gettting the boost it needed which i think is due to low spring pressure on the BOV. It kept getting better after each adjustment. But i have another starter in it and now it slips it low gear. So i'm going out tonight to adjust the band and hope that solves it. At the track the best run i got was a 12.01 @ 92 with 98mph in the 1/8. That was the first run and i only gave it half throttle and left off around the 1/8th to make sure things were good. It thunderstormed before i got to make the next run. So i went back down that friday night and ran it. I got a 1.62 60' but it was so rich the motor would shut off if you gave if full throttle. I switched carbs to solve that problem. The best i got at the dyno was 509hp. it was really inconsistent though. it ranged from 434 to 509. as soon as we started going in the right direction without touching the a/f the starter gave out. there's a couple things i have taking care of to get to my 600hp goal like a stiffer wastegate spring but it just takes alot nights tinkering because blowthrough turbo is complicated and not as easy as i though. I plan on going to the track next friday so i'm hoping to get in the 10's. And i'm going to the dyno agian soon so well see. (i might be satisfied if i get 560-575 hp) OH YEA THIS IS ALL ON SHEETZ PUMP GAS!!!!!
  14. Update- Went to the track and it was pig rich. ran faster at half throttle then it did at full throttle simply because it would just shut off when you smashed it. Changed the carburators and she runs as good as i can get it on the street. I'm going to the dyno today and i know what it should make (which is way more then i need) so hopefully i wont get disappointed. I'll put a vid up if i dont forget the camera. Oh yea, the turbo sounds like a jet engine spooling up (loud).
  15. If I were you I would get the jtr kit (i think its 250) and you might as well get the headers they sell for it (i think there 310 for coated) and swap it in. If you motor is going to be mild I would leave the stock radiator in and then if you get heating problems get another one. If your doing a mild 350 motor your damage will probably wont be bad. I could've did mine for probably 1000 bucks, because i had alot of stuff on hand. Then i decided to go blowthrough and it adds up quick (500 for fuel system, 200 for cell, 150 for roll bar, 500 for turbo, ect)
  16. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=134781 thats all my pics if you havent seen them yet. One thing i would do is look at about 40 turbo cars and see how there headers are setup. And decide if your going to go intercooler or not because that makes things complicated (at least for me). The thing that i regret the most is wasting time on making headers but i almost couldn't avoid that because there were few single turbo z's but you should have enough to look at to decide. If you don't have patients or the ability, buy a carb from CSU. it will be 98% perfect when you put it on if your even going blowthrough. dont forget about anything when you do the headers and mount the turbo. Because trust me...it gets tight with a s400. (radiator, exhaust, compressor inlet and outlet) You may laugh but you'll find out you have alot less room when things come together.
  17. heres a short video of the car. I just started it up to make sure the digital 6 was working (my other one took a crap) and blow all the crap out (metal shavings) before i put the turbo on so i can start on the exhaust tonight.
  18. So i wanted to get ready to race soon and finally got around to order a driveshaft. I called Denny's and he told me that he wasn't able to do it. I explained to him that i had the adapter flange for the chevy ujoints. He told me that he couldn't do it because he needed the nissan flange with it since that how it goes in the machine. I was kind of bewildered because I thought all he needed was the length but after about the third time he told me couldn't do it i gave up. Anyway i went to a machine shop about 40 minutes away and he said he could make it no troubles. I'll pick it up friday and the guy is about 75 years old so i know he knows his stuff. I was just kind of shocked that denny's couldn't do it. Anyone get a driveshaft made for there z from denny's? It was all for better though because i saved a good bit of money and i know it will be qaulity.
  19. My glide fits with plenty of room to spare so i would not see why the 400 wouldn't.
  20. I have 8.8:1 and i'm going to run 10-12 pounds of boost on pump gas. My brother-in-law has 9.6:1 and he is running 18 pounds. I talked to a guy from alchohol injection systems and he is running 10.0:1 with 10 pounds of boost on pump gas. My setup is turbocharged and the other two have centrifugal superchargers that are blowthrough. I'm not sure if a roots would differ that much on how it raises your AIT. I would get a better crank though because i've read about a couple poeple breaking the snout off the crank (forged scats) with a cog system on the centrifugal.
  21. that's the radiator i bought from austin (thanks alot by the way). you can see pics of it under the "280zx turbo" thread
  22. i have a set of headers that would fit. they are not full length though. they are patriot tight fit truck headers with 1 5/8 primaries. Pm me if your interested.
  23. some of you wanted to see what i was going to do with the radiator support and the wastegate. here are some pics of that and some pics of the interior. I also took a pic of the side of the car and as i said previously you can not see the bars except from the back and front. I'm going to get some window tinting done so that should hide it good. (sorry for the mess. i've kinda kept everything in the car so the garage stays somewhat clean and the car is really dusty too) P.S. I baled some hay for a guy last weekend that didn't have any farm equipment so I got some extra playing money and the alky kit form alcoholinjectionsystems.com is on its way.
  24. I thought i was going to get a bunch of replies like "you need a better bottom end" or something related to i'm not using enough high dollar parts. I personally think some poeple go too crazy on eninge parts and all that jazz for all the power they want out of it. The carbs not all that expensive if you compare it to FI. If you already have a carb you send it out to CSU and they match it to your setup i think its around $450. And if your having problems you can just call them and they'll tell you what to do. They are real real good with blowthrough. Most poeple suggest a 750 and if your going over a 1000 (i think) then go with the 850. http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=110547.0 http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=51153.0
