  1. I thought the C4 was an excellent handler?
  2. Having done this before, I would say that you should definitely take grumpy's advice (always a good thing to do). You want a bulletproof motor, especially if you plan on running that much boost. The headers look nice, but I built several sets of headers for the Z engine bay before I got a configuration that would work--I found that log style headers are pretty much your only option (see the Turbomeister's) or my easy solution. There's not much room for all of the turbo plumbing. You may have to heavily modify those headers or go custom, which I ultimately did. I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but I've spent the better part of 3 years getting this darn thing running and I've run into every roadblock imaginable.
  3. Having gone way over budget, I agree with the time vs. cost consideration discussion above. On the bright side, you have a ton of really nice parts. Also, I've never seen a yellow one. They look nice!
  4. It's still cheaper than a LS7 crate motor. I've never considered a big block Vette. Don't know why because it should be relatively easy.
  5. The Gale Banks setup is a problem in our cars because of the strut towers. I had actually purchased a very pretty set of stainless steel headers meant for a Camaro during my build. My little daughter said "daddy, those are pretty"-they were truly a work of art. You could hear my heart break in two when I found out they wouldn't fit. You'd have to take more than a hammer to the strut towers and fenders to get any turbos to fit near the front of the valve covers, as the turbos will interfere with the strut towers.
  6. Whoa!!! From the title of the thread, I thought I was gonna see an explosion
  7. No I haven't been driving it. It's been down in my basement getting wired up so I can have it registered. Believe it or not, my garage has 4 bays, and one of the bays has a ramp into the unfinished basement--the house used to be owned by a car dealer and this is where he kept his car collection. I've fired it up though, just to listen to it. It's amazing how quickly carbon monoxide can build up in a confined space and how dizzy you get when that stuff builds up in your bloodstream. It's worth it, though, to hear that rumble. As for the heat shield, I'll be making one up soon.
  8. Actually, I have already had a dyno run on it and I was somewhat dissappointed. We got 450 at the rear wheels and 500 ft/lb torque, but I am at a mile high altitude (20% hit in hp), and the boost was only at 8 psi. We were only going for some baseline numbers and used a basic fuel injection map. I'll get everything sorted out before cranking up the boost and tuning on the dyno.
  9. I was wrong on the company. It's not the Fisher Fury, but a Tiger http://www.tigerracing.com/cars/tiger-z100-main.php and the sick, sick picture
  10. For the Fisher Fury, it's just what I read on the website. I wasn't sure if that was achievable. On the other hand, a Super 7 clone chassis weighs in at under 1000 pounds (minus engines and driver). Then consider that it has 2 engines--not quite sure how they pulled that off. I'll have to check their website, but it would be an interesting engineering feat.
  11. Ha Ha Ha. He's just fishing for compliments. Reminds me of a supermodelesque girl I went out with one time who asked, "Do you think I'm pretty?", knowing full well what the answer would be.
  12. Some British firms are putting motorcycle engines in their Super 7 clones. In Fisher has a dual engined Fury! It's an all wheel drive and does 0-100 kph (close to 0-60 mph) in less than 3 seconds. For the autocross scene, the Hayabusa engine is the hot ticket. 190 hp at 12,000 rpm!
  13. Did you mean my pictures? I've posted them before, but here it is again
  14. I've got a frame I made for one of those. I've also got a Hayabusa engine for it, but there's no way I'm gonna chrome it. If I ever get the time, maybe carbon fiber panels, but not chrome.
  15. Sweet Tim. All this fabbing stuff is sounding very familiar to me. I made no fewer than 5 different turbo headers during my turbo build, but it taught me how to weld. You're doing great.
  16. What I see there looks solid, but did you just weld the beams over the existing sheet metal? I think it should be fairly strong if you adequately prepared the metal.
  17. Hanns, I can play by your rules except for the hood scoop and registration thing. As for registration, I'm getting it wired up so I can have lights when I take it to the DMV. The hood scoop is really cosmetic. I could have fit everthing underneath the stock hood if I really wanted to, so I'm asking for a waiver on that one. Oh, one more thing. I did not cut the fender, but I took a hammer to the strut tower to give better clearance for one of my wastegates. It would have fit without pounding-just made things a little easier. Besides, cutting isn't the same as hammering, so please cut me a little slack here.
  18. Cool, another TT V8 zcar soon to be born. Can't wait to see it. You're gonna love it.
  19. Hanns, You were the exact cause of the distraction. I don't have any regrets though.
  20. Yeah, they give that stuff away in North Carolina after a race or too. There's so much of that used junk that they can't get rid of it. I wish.
  21. If I were to do it again (well, actually, I would do an LS1 because I like torture) the easy way, I would get a ZZ4 crate engine or even the GM 383 stroker engine and do it the JTR way. You would get a reliable screamer that you could drive all day. I got distracted during my build and now I've got more motor than I needed that is somewhat less reliable--I certainly wouldn't drive it outside of a 100 mile radius from my house.
  22. It's amazing how important those grounds are. I now have multiple redundant grounds.
  23. Welcome Towman! What are your goals for your project? Do you want to build the all out fastest Z around, daily driver, a bit of both? Do you want to get done in the next year, or is your timetable sometime within the next decade? I would fist of all suggest that you beef up the suspension/brakes first to match your desired power output. Lots of info on that here. Oh, and if you are using a SBC as opposed to an LSX, get the Jags book. It's precious.
  24. I had one of those in high school and I was embarrased to drive it because I went to one of those high schools where all the kids drove BMW's. How stupid I was. Looking back on it, I had a really cool ride.
