Weld pro forged convo 00 15x 10 if i remember the backspace is 3.40 cant remember running 295/50/15 Changed the lugnuts to 12x1.50 instead of the stock 12x1.25 thread the rims were roughly 235.00$ per rim dont have any for the front yet but will run 15x8 in the front same style to probably get another set of 15x10's to mount drag tires on . If the fender ever rubs in the rear then i may trim the sheet metal a bit . Im running these tires with a 1 inch lowering spring gives me about 2 1/4 inches of clearance between the tire and fender lip about 3 inches between rubber and the strut . Very nice indeed . I had a shop do mine it was ok they crushed the pipe uurrgghh but they used 2.5 inch then where they crushed it they used 3 inch they said it would flow the same as uncrushed round pipe . Very nice i wish that shop was in my town Jason -
So im getting my engine back after being rebuilt twice first time i got screwed by a machine shop . Anyhow im running the short sbc 400 rods and 400 crank with forged pistons that work with the setup . Question is what is the rpm range with the short rods . Everything is completly balanced using top of the line rod bolts etc . Ive had some people tell me oh 6 grand is the limit some have said between 7-8 thou rpm but of course none of them aparently ever owned a sbc 383 hmmm . So i figured id ask and see if anyone who has run a 383 knows about rpm limits of the short rod 383 . My cam has a range of 2,200-6,200 rpms " comp cams" lifters to match and springs that are rated for the supercharger ill be using and roller rockers no roller lifters . 2,400 rpm stall converter and not sure if ill keep the R200 3:54 gears or use my R180 4:11 gears . I had someone bust out my drivers door window trying to get to my cd player and for about 2 months i used a plexi glass window . I got some plexi glass from home depot cut it to shape installed it in the regulator and it worked great didnt make any noise or flap in the breeze . It just was a bit hard to roll the plexi glass up and down to open the window . Jason

I hate people that park to close . I had a lady at walmart once ding my z with her car door . I was in my z waiting for my wife to come out and someone pulled into the spot next to me a bit close i might add . She didnt see me in the car " limo tint on the windows " she opend her door and wham smacked my passanger door . So i reached over and when she shut her door i flung the passanger door open and slamed it into her car she had a fit her face turned red what a laugh it was . I said hey $#@%^ ya slamed ya door into my car i was just returning the favor . The way i see it no matter if a car is a beater or a bmy respect it as if it was youres . A guy i work with parked his ford ranger to close to my jimmy and scratched the paint with his door i told him nicely if he does it again ill beat his ass he hasnt parked near me since then . Jason

For slow and rusty the engine place that built my 3.1 stroker was called competition engines here in colorado springs . As for pete the 2.7 puts out if i remember 220 crank horses suposedly turbo makes it around 280 - 300 . Hyundai is suposed to come out with a 350 plus horsepower rear wheel drive car called the genisis . Jason

So now for an update the 383 is getting close to being done about another week or so . All said and done im looking at 1,500$ parts and labor . Forged dished pistons " for the supercharger"575$ forged rods 200$ . The rest is labor and minor machine work to assemble the longblock . I was going the route of the short rod 383 but the shop convinced me to go the 5.7 rod route instead of the 5.5 not only cheaper but now i can turn more rpms and it will be completly balanced and ready to go . Ive been without my z for 8 months now but it gave me time to install the Subtle z rear fenders paint the engine bay and run A/N fittings and stell braided lines for everything all the way down to the heater hose . Plus i got me some new rims 15x10 running 295/50 15 tires nice and wide . Cant wait to line up with some of these hondas i see buzzing by everyday plus a guy at work has a 2005 Hyundai tiburon " i work at hyundai as a mechanic " he claims his turbo GT v6 will be way faster then my supercharged 383 haa haa i say . Jason

Well it was a crate motor untill the oil pickup tube fell off one day destroyed the engine with only 7 thou miles on it so i figured id build a 383 out of it since i had a 400 sbc crank laying around and 400 sbc rods . And seeing as it is going to have a supercharger on it i thought what the heck but i got it stuck to me good . Live and learn i guess . Jason

Man talk about bad luck, the first engine rebuild i ever did was the stock 280z motor did a 3.1 stroker i paid about 2 grand for it and oh about 2 thousand miles latter the came towers fell off while driving down the highway . The engine builder told me it was my fault but he installed the parts and the engine . So i left it at that as " race engines etc etc have no warranty . So now on to my SBC 383 i had a different machine shop build it for me from top to bottom . I asked them to give it back to me in pieces so as i could build it myself . So i took it to another machine shop to have it checked over . Two of the conecting rods were 30 grams out of balance and one was bent . The crank was suposed to be balanced and it never was . And the pistons were no good and i wasnt trold that either . So i asked the people whom i had do the work the first time and they said i must have droped the stuff on the ground because they do good work . Thats why the crank was out of balance .They had no coment on the rods so the 900$ i paid for machine work etc will now cost me another 900$ or more but this machine shop does work on the engines where i work at HYUNDAI i guess i should have used them the first time stupid me . Well ive read threads on the rear mustache bars and for a R200 where and who has the " best bar " out there . Ive seen AZ cars bar and im wondering what people who are using it think of it . Im using the AZ car solid front diff mount and the RT mount from roost monkey which i added a square steel stock between the top of the diff and the RT mount so as to have a solid upper front diff mount instead of a rubber snubber same purpose though . Now i need to concentrate on the mustache bar . Jason

Thats about what i paid for my stroker just under 4 grand and it wasnt any faster then it was bone stock only thing i reused was the head and block all else were new parts . So i opted for a SBC 383 Jason

gretchen/jason replied to grumpyvette's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Nice download only question i have is the HP readings at the end of the program . I entered all my info it even had a selection for my weiand supercharger for a sbc 383 . But when it said 180 horses at 7000 rpm please tell me i added 180 horses of course i know the engine has more then that only thing i couldnt pic is the intake manifold for the supercharger maybe that is the problem . OMG!! Steering locked up at 45mph!!!
gretchen/jason replied to cygnusx1's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Man i know what ya mean by sacrry i had it happen to me once merging onto the highway on ramp but at about 25 mph . My steering lock never worked and i had a push button for the starter well i never used a key as i had keyless entry installed so one day turning left it decided to lock up i blocked the whole intersection for a few minutes as i dug my keys out of my pocket . Ive since replaced the lock/ignition on my new z as i dont want to re live that experience glad youre ok . Jason -
I think the LS1 was a good choice ...
gretchen/jason replied to heavy85's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
My freind has a evo 8 just off the subject a bit here but he has short ram intake had a guy redo the timing and such via laptop , some exhaust system from japan cost 1,200$ removed the rear seats etc etc . It seems quick but my supercharged 280z with a 350 sbc 280 whp 300 wheel torque tore him up in the 1/4 mile running 5 lbs of boost . I ran a 13.5 best was a 13.2 average 13.4. He went to the same local local track 5,400 ft above sea level " Pueblo Colorado " best time 14.8 in the 1/4 15.0 was average he complained the tires would spin on the evo for the first half of the track sure i said . Sometimes id love a Ls1 conversion but im now going with a supercharged 383should be fun Jason -

gretchen/jason replied to gretchen/jason's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis

GOOSE HORN coming from the engine.. WTF
gretchen/jason replied to proxlamus©'s topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
Funny i helped a guy build a first gen turbo eclipse had the same sound like a honking goose when under boost , ended up he put the check valve to the brake booster in backwards he was reading 12 lbs of boost fliped it around he hit 20 lbs of boost blew the booster out though , cant say you have the same issue though .
