  1. I saw that too. That is a great news letter this month, Mopar madness. What started out as a cheap marketing tool has turned into a classy car mag. In our house it has been elavated from the dust bin to the loo (reading room).
  2. No flame from me. I feel the same way. When I got there Eric and Nick had already started cutting the roof off. When I looked closely at the shell I thought to myself, "you can't do this, you can't do this!". At that point though grinder had already been put to metal. It was just a matter of finishing the crime. The more we cut the more evidence there was of what a near-perfect example this one was. Even the battery tray was nearly perfect ( I made them cut it off to save it from the crusher). I really couldn't say much, the car belonged to Eric. Keep in mind though, this is the same man who admitted to cutting up Mopars in his past that later examples of same would demand six and even seven figure price tags. What can be said? The man obviously has poor judgment.
  3. I probably shouldn't say this as it may put my life in danger, but other than a few a few dents in the frame rails, that was one of the straightest, rust free S30 unibodies I've seen.
  4. Yes, that was the place. Mine included the bellhousing, clutch fork, and NEW slave cylinder. Davy makes a good point about buying new. Keep in mind though, a new tranny will not include those extra items.
  5. You're in NorCal so I might suggest a couple wrecking yards. There is a yard in Sacramento that caters to f-body cars, also one in San Jose (that is where I got my WC-T5) but I don't remember any names, sorry. Prices: I paid $750 for mine seven years ago. They have been offered on this site for as low as $450. A good rebuilt beefed up one might get $1500.
  6. Backspacing front and rear is 4.5" so the front is close to 0. The rear, obvoiusly, is a about 2" out.
  7. If you want to see what a 305/50/15 on 10" rims (four lug BTW) look like in person on the back of a Z PM me. I'm just north of the SF bay area. I'm running 265's on the front on 8" rims.
  8. In celebration of our glorious victory over the Japanese, ending the most devastating war of all time, the wife and I are driving her Mazda to Vallejo to look at a bunch of Japanese cars at Motoring J Style.
  9. Unless Grant has changed their bolt spacing in the last few years they are not interchangable. Momo has not changed their bolt pattern in at least 25 years. Also, I like the new Momo designs. I'm thinking of changing out my old Jackie Stewart signature wheel for a new Quake design. It's a semi-D shape and 0.8" larger diameter. I'm hoping that 0.8" will give me more leverage turning those 265's in parking manuvers.
  10. 3/4" is way more than anyone else has reported, so forgive me if this is too obvoius: Are you sure the diff side of the axel is completely seated and snapped in?
  11. If the new companion flanges where threaded so you didn't have to fit a nut on the back side then could you make them thinner without giving up any strength. There is another guy on this site working on this same thing. The idea is not original with me. Then you could get the extra room to resolve the binding issue without the added expence of shorter axels. After all, it's only the length of the stock axels that is an issue, not the strength. But, I don't know how much of the issue is clearance for the stub axel nut. Ross?
  12. Some guys really know how to make friends, eh?
  13. Absolutely. If someone thinks the 350Z, 370Z, and GTR are beautiful cars, more power to them. I also think it's the cute when some guy believes his homely wife is the most gorgeous woman in the world. I'm not going to tell him otherwise. Cars sell for other reasons besides looks. When I ordered my new Chevy truck I knew I would have to shield my eyes when I walked up to it. Many sports car guys believe the only view of their car that matters it the view over the dashboard. I respect that. When I'm shelling out tens of thousands of dollars on a "sports car" I want it to look like more than I paid for it, not less.
  14. I didn't know there were any left! (I may have to move) Yup.
  15. Wow. That's really something to brag about. It's great that Nissan is building cars that are wonderful drivers. But why do they have to be so dang ugly? I understand if you're building a sedan or a wagon or a truck. But a sports car should be as simulating to look at as it is to drive. It just seems to me that with all the talented designers we have today there is just no excuse for producing an ugly duckling sports car. I am dead serious when I say I'd buy two new Z's today if they were donned with the beautiful body lines of Grid's design. The first I'd drive and second would go into storage as an investment for the future.
  16. Can we all say "ho-hum" together? Give us the GRID and I'll buy two right now!
  17. Good for you! That's a great deal. Keep us up to date on the progress. This is going in a 280Z? Hope it's a '75. Otherwise you are going to have to federalize the swap for road use.
  18. Shooter, Did you install a 5" pedistal mount Autometer tach in an S30 dash? I'd love hear any install tips you can offer. Dan
  19. Hey Chelle, Who took that picture of J.W.'s row? My wife and I were there.
  20. That quote from me is a little out of date. Before the days of Megasquirt. Even if GM only offers a stripped down ECM without an O2 sensor with that motor, it would be very easy and cheap to run it on megasquirt.
  21. I'm 99.9% certain it will clear the stock hood. I have a tpi and I still have about 1 1/2" of clearance to the hood. Just eye-ballin' it there's no way the Ram Jet is an inch taller than a tpi motor. FYI Doc, not all of us want a big ol' frickin' scoop on our hoods. Some of us are more subtle, sensative guys. I just found this in a search. It's from four years ago: " I have some interest in this motor too. The total height of the plenum is 9 3/4" above the top of the block. I'd like to hear what Grumpy has to say about it. I wonder if the ECU is editable. About $4800 and comes with a 12 month warrenty. Cool looking set up. I just went out and compared the measurement to my tpi manifold. The Ram Jet is about an inch taller but should clear the stock Z hood with room to spare, about 2" on average." And the source is good, it's me!
  22. Well your picture supports your argument. My seats must be from a different model year.
