  1. It depends on the specific components you use, but it's easily to spend $1,000 - $1,200 or more. The cost varies on the lines you use, the compressor, condensor, control panel, where you purchase, etc. I bought all my Vintage Air supplies directly from them, so I paid the list prices you can find on their website. I also upgraded my control panel, dryer, bulkhead plate, and probably a few other items.
  2. When I pulled my L6 I did it with the transmission attached, and I think it went pretty smoothly that way. I just followed the instructions in my repair manual, and it didn't take more than a few hours. You don't have to drain your transmission, but if you don't you will need some type of a plug for the rear end (something similar to the end of the driveshaft) otherwise it will go everywhere.   3. I don't see any advantage to this setup. I thought the whole point in moving the alternator was to have a shorter belt with simplified routing. This system doesn't appear to deliver on either one. The Alan Grove mount has been discussed, and the consensus seems to be that it wpn't work on a Z.
  4. If you aren't pushing a lot of horsepower and you don't plan on dumping your clutch (if you have manual) you can probably get away with the u-joint halfshafts. If you're going to be driving it hard it may make sense to go with CV's. I think this is one of those things where you get what you pay for. If you want the extra strength you have to pay the extra money. I'm not aware of anyone else selling the adapters other than ModernMotorsports.
  5. Looking forward to hearing and seeing how your project progresses. I think in general people don't seem to understand why people go with LSX engines with carb's, but I think there are many benefits to it.

  7. That looks pretty far forward, is this the final position? If so I'm surprised you needed to do any clearancing for that position. I'm wondering if you're going to have problems installing headers, or does John have special headers to go with his kit. How well does you're shifter line up with the stock opening? BTW, congrats on getting the engine installed.

  10. Okay that's really wierd, but I'm waiting for the two pieces to go back together. The video just ends with the top half looking at the bottom half and then going away.   11. I finally figured out that the stock Datsun sending unit does not directly fit into the Chevrolet head. This thread gave me the info I needed and I ordered an adapter from JTR. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=95421 I feel like such a knucklehead:lmao:
  12. Yes I used teflon tape on the threads, but I think it's leaking between the sending unit and the nut (no threads here, it's just an interferance fit). In fact I think the teflon tape on the threads caused me to lose my ground and made the gauge stop working. I put teflon tape on the threads of both my stock oil pressure sending unit and my water temperature sending unit, and now neither one of the gauges work...there might be some connection.
  13. I installed the one I got from PartsAmerica and it leaks! I figured I must need to get one with a retaining nut, so I bought another sending unit and retaining nut from MSA. The parts arrived yesterday, and the nut doesn't seem to fit on the sending unit any better than my old retaining nut on the PartsAmerica sending unit. How can I install a Datsun sending unit on my engine without any leaks?

  18. So I went ahead and purchased a cable and downloaded TTS DataMaster. It worked great and I went ahead and recorded a test run of a little over a minute. I just started it up, let it idle a little bit, and revved it a little. Well DTC Code Number 43 is set, which is the Knock Sensor Circuit. Tim (the PO) had already put in a inline resistor in the wiring, but that may not be enough with all the upgrades I recently completed. I'm thinking that I should install an LT4 Knock Sensor Module, which seems to be a pretty common upgrade for upgraded LT1's to prevent the computer from pulling out excessive timing. Anyone else with an LT1 installed one of these LT4 sensors? In the short little recording I made the spark was retarded a good 12 - 13 degrees when the engine was revving. Is this normal or excessive?
  19. If a V8 is what is appealing to you, then go with the Rover V8. In your original post you said "the V8 will always appeal to me" twice. Get what you like or you'll regret it sometime down the road. Maybe you'll be happy with something else for a while, but then you'll see someone else in a nice zed with a V8 in it and you'll wonder why you didn't go that route as well.
