  1. I just found this : Click on the ZG's image and a larger one will show. Watch the transparent shield/wing/spoiler on the hood of the ZG. Is that an actual aerodynamic aid they use in Japan? http://solmodel.co.kr/FrontStore/iGoodsView.phtml?iCategoryId=&iGoodsId=FU18141 Heh...manga/animes...
  2. Moby, The thread finally starts. What does "cavitation at the pump" mean? Thanks
  3. Heh, you're alright. you edited you post...was gonna give me an earful weren't you? I am cool with it, If I have Christmas in summer I'd be messed up too
  4. I read it in Engine Master annual 2006, which I heard, is not available to rude people in Australia. If you want to say something, say it out loud, like "Link or ban" not linkorban.
  5. I don't know why the flat tops are so hated, maybe there was an explaination in the search. I never owned a carbed Z. If you have the chance to pull the head off the engine, check the piston top. If there is a ring of clean(washed) area around the piston top, that means the oil rings have trouble scrub down the oil on the walls. As the piston pushes up, the oil on the wall washes the circumference of the piston top clean. If the piston looks normal, then check valve guides and valve stem seals. The stem seals are probably cheap to replace, it's the work involved that drive you nuts. Because I have a really bright LED flashlight, I would peek into the engine to see the piston top thru the spark plug holes. If the pistons look normal I would replace all the valve stem seals without removing the head and see how the oil burning condition improves.
  6. If you haven't read an article about reverse flow cooling, you should. It is very interesting.
  7. wingnutthehutt, Does the car have a decent chassis? People don't care about the engine condition, people care about condition of chassis (especially us wife swap...I mean engine swappers)
  8. round top or flat top refers to the shape of the shoulder of the carb. The round top ones looks like a wine bottle with a smooth shoulder like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HIF-SU-Carburetor-AS-Fitted-to-MGB-and-Triumph_W0QQitemZ8046055950QQcategoryZ33550QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem The flat top have no smooth shoulder but look like this : ___|..|___<---not rounded |............| |............| |............| The flat top ones are the ones people don't like. The older 240Z engine can have some problems, one of them being not compatible with unleaded fuel, the valve seats will wear out quicker. Other problems have to do with age, worn rings, worn valve guide, worn valve guide seal can all lead to burning oil.
  9. maybe...but whatever it takes. You think it will allow a few more PSI before detonation?
  10. A guy posted about his experience with seafoam couple weeks ago. He let the engine suck it in with a vacuum hose and the car runs really crappy afterwards. He gave up on the engine because he said he's going to drop in a V8 anyway. Have you ran the engine with seafoam? Because you shouldn't. The instruction says let the engine suck in seafoam and then STOP the engine to let it soak(the guy I mentioned above let the engine ran with seafoam in it). Hopefully once you cleaned up your spark plug all the junk inside the combustion chamber will break up shortly (Take her for a good drive will help)
  11. Well...um, I don't know how to spell machinist....BUT I IS ONE! hahaha can't resist. I have a machine that look just like the one desert dog has except mine is painted yellow with 32" center to center length. I bought it from a company in Las Vegas called "Shop Task", the machine I bought was called "GunMaster" because it is made for home gunsmiths to turn barrels on. Not a precise machine but I did modify a Lee-Enfield into shooting .44mag. I would say I am a hobbist machinist of sorts. Some-Guy, what's your going rate for making parts? I am about to receive some 6Al4V titanium and I want to turn them into piston wrist pins. I can probably rough turn them to size and you can sneak up to the precise dimension with your CNC. Let me know.
  12. What car are you using the Z31 ECU in?
  13. Any of you turbo guys running the coolant in reverse direction (radiator->head->block->radiator)? How much have you benefited from such setup? Thanks
  14. Good luck. Show us some tangible graphics of the final assembly when you have it.
  15. Why McLaren F1? Have you built a computer model and saw that it would look really nice? Or just picked McLaren F1 for no reason?
  16. You want to make a McLaren F1 front end for what car? To put on a Z car? To put on a kit car? Why datsun bolt patterns? Get a mold and start stamping pieces? How much does a sheetmetal stamping mold cost? Do you know?
  17. I've been wondering why these pins are so difficult to remove? I think they can only be pulled. When the pins are pressed out with a hydraulic press, the pin grows size laterally due to compression that creates even more friction. I think anything that makes PULLing easier is worth a try.
  18. Download a copy of "280z fuel injection book". It's good stuff. http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/efisystem/280zfuelinjectionbook.pdf
  19. Why do the government stopped authorizing R32 and R34 import into the US?
  20. Wow I search several cities near you on Craigslist and there is none. In fact very little Datsun stuff. Here is a thread I posted but the shipping charge will not be good for you : http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=109129 If you have a 280Z, you won't need a complete turbo engine. Search for those convert N/A to Turbo threads. More place to look : http://www.ontariozcar.com/ http://www.zcar.com/
  21. If this question is targeted toward S30 Z, you can find your answer in search. The cheapest upgrade is to get rid of unnecessary weight in the car like seats, interior trims, speakers, radio, air condition, spare tire and tools, power window motors, power lock....etc. A friend of mine stripped his Honda S2000 clean and removed 200 lbs of weight, but that figure is obtained after he replaced the convertable mech with a hardtop and stock hood with a CF one. Then come the upgrades that costs some money like underdrive pulley, K&N filter, air intake and exhaust upgrades. Up from there is ignition upgrades and cam. After that, it's no longer "relatvely inexpensive."
  22. Save this article and show it to his son when the kid knows what it means. What a negligent *** !
