  1. I did an estimate on the effect of reduced rotating inertia before. I was trying to see how much faster in the quarter mile will a stock 240Z be if the crank rod journals were drilled hypothetically(but in reality the L6 crank cannot be drilled because of the oil holes.) The result : about 0.02 sec faster. In one of David Vizard's book, he said that a V8 with drilled rod journals will cut 0.07sec off in the quarter mile in a 10 second car. The effect of reduced rotating inertia is insignificant compared to the effect of increased displacement.
  2. I have my car coated with RustBullet as a direct-to-metal primer. I did do some research when I was deciding whether to use POR15 or RustBullet. RustBullet is better in every department than POR15 except that POR15 can stand more temperature. Since it is used on car bodies that is trivial. If you need to make a choice between POR15 or RustBullet, I'll just tell you to go with RustBullet. I don't know about the other stuff because I have decided to use moisture-cured coating that can paint over minor rust from the get-go.
  3. dude, that IS nice !!! Modern upgrade but still keeps the oldschool charm. A+ Oh oh oh, you should make and sell these.
  4. sacrificial anode is a good idea. You don't really need to spend 12.50$ for a piece of zinc for the purpose of that. If you have a spent carbon-zinc battery(not alkaline battery), strip the soft metal shell off off the battery, that is zinc. I have a small jar of those zinc strips for whatever uses. If you want to remove all rust without damaging the metal underneath, this product seems promising http://www.evapo-rust.com/
  5. I have seen a few Solstice's on the road and I think they look very nice. I wouldn't mind having one myself to tinker with either...but my Z comes first.
  6. I think all the people that have problem with removal are all trying to PRESS it out. Those who actually PULL it out have better success. Somehow I think the pin gets thicker when it is pressed(squashed), but when you pull it the diameter doesn't grow. The pulling tool used to be in circulation, now I don't know. What does the tool look like and can I make one myself?
  7. It's really not that bad, better than mine. With a few ounces of POR15 or Rustbullet and a small brush, the rust can be stopped before it begins to infect structure. The rusted areas can be fixed later whenever time/finance becomes available. Most of the people who sell Zs in condition like this for a low value because they believe rust is going to get a lot worse within one year. With technology like RustBullet or POR15, it doesn't have to get worse, especially if the car doesn't see rain. Rust is stopped first, then find some time to fix it. http://www.rustbullet.com/ The shell of my 260Z that is being build is coated inside out with this stuff. The coating is very tough. When I scratch the coating with my fingernail it doesn't feel like the fingernail has digged in at all. It the same kind of feeling you get when you try to scratch glassware with fingernails, very hard and slick.
  8. Is that rig supposed to wrap around the drive shaft but not touch it so when the shaft breaks/becomes loose the car does not pole vault over a pothole?
  9. Did a search and found the news link : http://www.king5.com/health/stories/NW_032006HEBkidneytheftKC.46765ad9.html
  10. I saw it on the news, the channel is KING5 news. If you are in Canada west or Washington state area you might have this channel on your TV.
  11. Just saw this on the news. A local man(Kelowna, BC, Canada) took a vacation in Costa Rica. While there he took a fall and got his jaw injured. The last thing he rememebered was being carried onto an ambulance. When he woke up he found his kidney had been removed by the hospital. The hospital fails to come up with any x-ray film or test result that explains the reason of kidney removal. The patient can only communicate with one English speaking doctor and the doctor didn't give any explaination. There is no mention of whereabouts of the removed kidney either. According to the man, there is no bruise on the skin in the area of removed kidney so his kidney wasn't injured in the fall. The man believes the hospital stole his perfectly healthy kidney for profit or other uses. Heh, what has the world come to?
  12. I like it. Very redneck. Could use more ground clearance, like 2 ft more. And raise the rear end higher than the front to give it a "charging forward" look.
  13. It's counter productive. Cam/valvetrain needs very little oil. The oil in the head comes from the block and is communicated thru a small jet. Since all oil comes from that small restriction, using BOTH system wouldn't give you any extra oiling. Too much oil in the valve cover = oil entering valve stem seal = residue getting stuck on backside of valve head = bad to air flow and some burning oil.
  14. No problems. You run a solid cam now but if you find an internally oiled cam that you want to use, the oil feed holes on the cam must be blocked off or the oil pressure will be bled off, that hurts buttom end oiling. It's actually a better setup. It allows any type of cams to be used(if you block off the oil feed holes like above mentioned), provides constant oiling. Some people also modify the spray bar to spray and cool the valve springs in a race.
  15. Well the artist's name is on the top right corner, under the red title. © Artist's name/publisher Same artist?
  16. I caught something on the TV just when the race ends. It said something about record win for the diesel car....Did the Audi diesel actually win?
  17. Don't use reproduction fenders. They don't fit. The only good sources are people that part out their Zs.
  18. I have always been intrigued by the Arizona Z car pistons. What's the compression height? How light is it?
  19. They are parting out a shell : http://www.zparts.com/ads/cars4sale/c4s_index.html Also eBay, 300$ buy it now http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-240Z-Rolling-Shell-Good-For-Race-Car-or-Parts_W0QQitemZ4559890760QQcategoryZ42611QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  20. Ohhhh...so that's what that is. Wonder what it'll do to the aerodynamics.
  21. yeah it's a model. I actually have the exact model. When I found it at the store I nearly did a double take.
  22. I just found this : Click on the image and a larger one will show. http://solmodel.co.kr/FrontStore/iGoodsView.phtml?iGoodsId=FU18565 Anyone know what manga that is?
