  1. Hmmm....suppose you start with 180rwhp. It depends largely on the cam, if you custom order a "wimp grind" from Lunati, you can get about 100 hp lower cuz the valves barely open. Taped over K&N filter substracts another 5 hp. Overdrive pulleys can fetch another -10 hp. Use water instead of synthetic oil will get you another -20hp. Turbonator inside the intake track will reduce another 5. If you don't balance the crankshaft, minus 20. Retard the timing can get another -10. install A/C = -10hp. With more trick you can get it to run negative hp.
  2. I know S12W are used with 300ZX vented rotors. I want to know if the 4lug 300zx rotors will fit those S12-8 calipers. If I use the S12W then I have to buy spacers. I can't find a pair of S12W neither. But there's plenty of S12-8 around. If I can find S12W I'll probably go that way, but I can't find them. I finger checked and eye checked the MC on the 280ZX, didn't see anything except "Nabco" and "Japan" but I will go check again.
  3. I have access to a turbo from a Z31 in the wreck yard, it is still installed on the car. Wonder if it's compatible with L28et swap or has any useful purpose. Is there a model name for the turbo(like T-something)? I span the turbo fan and it rotated freely, has some play(I'd say .005" or more) I can't see directly into the turbo but from finger touch the fan fins are not damaged at all. Any other way to tell if a turbo is in running condition? Afterall the car is in a wreck yard but the car is not a totalled vehicle. Pardon my noob question, coming in here asking will this fit that or will that fit this. This particular turbo is the first one I put my hands on. I asked the turbo many questions but it didn't say anything back. Thanks
  4. Hi, I've done my research and are planning to use the following : Toyota 4x4 4 piston calipers S-12-8 (not S-12-W) NA 300ZX 4-lug vented rotors 15/16 280ZX MC Here are the Qs : 1. The calipers described above are said to fit stock S30 solid rotors, but will the vented NA 300ZX 4-lug rotors fit? 2. Does every 280ZX come with 15/16 MC? Or only 280ZX Turbo has the 15/16 MC? I found one in the wreck yard but it only says "Nabco" and "Japan". Have searched but didn't see anything definitive. I need to know cuz I have found some of the iems in local pick-and-pull. Thanks
  5. For a temporary solution you can use the e-brake(hope your right hand is quick). Works very well in my stock brake 71 V8 240Z. Then you need to upgrade the brakes. Search for "brake setup" using search function. There is a thread where everyone lists their brake setups. Ahhh...what the heck, here it is http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=99389&highlight=brake+setup Most swap setups use toyota 4 piston front calipers (stamped S-12-W) from a V6 4Runner(instead of S-12-8, off a 4x4truck). Plus 300ZX rotors and 15/16 master cylinder from a 280ZX. Or you can buy $$$brake upgrade kits$$$ from most major Z parts suppliers like Arizona Z car, Modern Motorsport, etc. I am not an expert at all, I am planning to do a brake swap as well. There are a lot of threads about doing the toyota caliper swap but the info is not very well organized; It's hard when you have a particular question in mind. Search first, if you don't find what you're looking for, then ask. People will be glad to help. TheNeedForZ
  6. Wow you're a lucky guy. Wife that understand you is the best.
  7. Interesting, never seen one done like that(porsche 550 spyder style) before.
  8. Some of the most useful sites : This one, the one you are in right now. and : http://zhome.com/ http://geocities.com/zgarage2001/ http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/links/morelinks.htm Of course there are more good sites out there but some of them are about engine swaps. The above links concerns mainly original equipment S30Z. Where to find good Z cars....check your local Z club.
  9. what car is it? If it's 280ZX I know there's a 1$ chassis on eBay.
  10. at 270$USD a pop I'll make my own mesh grill.
  11. I have never been involved in an accident. I use my 20/20 hindsight to drive. When I was about to crash, I press a "pause" button that is within reach of my thumb. If I really did crash, I hit pause button, choose "restart", then my day starts all over again from the point I was about to get in the car.
  12. Someone out there is making mesh grill for S30Z, this set is for sale on eBay at ridiculous price. Who is the original manufacturer? Anybody know? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/70-72-DATSUN-240Z-NEW-NISSAN-FRONT-GRILL_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ34204QQitemZ4569451345QQrdZ1
  13. Strictly speaking in terms of physics, when a moving body on wheels rolls across a flat surface at a constant speed, the amount of work required to keep moving is ZERO(imagine drifting in space and never stops). In the real world, there are friction, drag, bumps, uphill, stop & go etc. When travelling on a perfectly flat surface, all that consumes energy are friction and drag. If the carb does lead to 100% fuel consumption, under special circumstances(low friction, drag, driving slowly in circles on a flat surface, non-stop) the claim might actually come to realization. The 200mpg claim might be an extrapolation of test results, like 5 miles per 1/5 pint = 200miles per gallon. That said, if we do use the "200mpg" carb, it can only ensure all fuel droplets are vaporized, it will not give 200mpg in real world driving. I was reading some old threads on the forum and a guy said his Sprint can get 60mpg using a carb. Shows how much gas a light car can save.
  14. Interesting. But if it is an engine + tranny swap, how does the rear gain 30 pounds?
  15. http://www.GT6.com From the blueprint of triumph GT6 is just like our S30Z. but pictures of the real thing is somewhat different. http://images.google.ca/images?q=%22triumph%20GT6%22&hl=en&lr=&sa=N&tab=wi
  16. http://teglerizer.com/dcoe/index.html 2/3 down the page see "you can download it here" in blue. The program assumes the engine is a 4 cylinder. So for Z's you must convert it into a 4 cylinder engine 2357cc / 6 * 4 = 1571cc.........this is a L24 as a 4 cyl engine 3092cc / 6 * 4 = 2061cc.........this is a 3.1L stroker as a 4 cyl engine The program only accept reasonable inputs.(no 10000rpm, etc) Experts, what do you think? Is this program applicable for L series engines after converting the cc into 4 cylinders? Thanks
  17. I did a bit of research on the web. It seems the Dellorto's have finer increment in jets than Weber's. Dell's are also considered as a refined Weber. Dells use diaphram accelerator pump, Weber uses a piston(my Weber is actually DCOM, with adjustable diaphram accelerator pump so this part of my Weber is the same as a Dellorto). Dellorto designed side-draft carbs for Weber but had a fight with them. Dellorto then seperated from Weber and started his own company. Later Dellorto was bought by Weber and all Dellorto molds were ordered destroyed. Dellorto parts are harder to obtain. When changing jets on a Dellorto, one must remove the linkage, open the top cover to gain access. On a Weber, jets can be accessed to without removing any parts. Most people think dellorto's are great carbs. And they are really really cheap compared to Weber's.
  18. Welcome to the forum. If you ever decide to use original wiring. There is a uncut wiring harness for 280ZXT on eBay. I just saw one on eBay.CA and I am pretty sure you can find even more on eBay.COM
  19. Yes, I bought my Webers(see above post) from the alfa guy....hope my Webers are worth the money when those dellorto's are about 1/4 the cost.
  20. http://search.ebay.com/dellorto_W0QQfromZR8QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQsojsZ0 Quite a few lots. I see people sell them as a set of 2 usually. How do the dellorto 40 DHLA differ from weber 40 DCOE? Because I just spent a few hundred dollars for a brand new set of Weber DCOE and these Dellortos(I've heard of them, but not familiar with their relations with webers) looks darn similiar to webers and are much much cheaper!!! Make me feel good please
  21. Hi welcome to the forum chino. http://www.jimcookracing.com/ http://www.zcarparts.com/ http://www.victoriabritish.com/index.htm They all sell front air dams for S30Z You from Vancouver by the way?

  24. Yes, small cars are the hot ticket in Taiwan. I have not been back to the island for 8 years but I hear about it from my friend. My friend shipped a new VW Beetle back there. Ricers want to race his car all the time because there isn't a lot of new beetles around in Taiwan. Because parking space is a concern, small cars like my friends Beetle is much desired in the city. I will not be surprised if 510 Dime or S30Z becomes a hot car, but they will probably buy from Japan since it's close. On the other hand Taiwan is a left-hand-drive country unlike Japan, so there will be people who want to buy LHD version from the US. There are very few S30Zs in Taiwan. My dad and mom said they have never seen one back in their days, and my friend the car guy had only seen it once, owned by a guy who runs a performance shop. (coincidentally, the guy who owns the performance shop also have a V12 850) You can make some good cash if you have the channel to import cars to Taiwan. Import car dealers are making money hand over fist, especially high end cars or exotic(sometimes 100% profit margin). But IIRC my friend said the cars must go thru an emission test RIGHT OFF THE BOAT....IIRC.
