  1. Man, the 2+2s are so ugly. They look totally deformed. Definately a steal for someone wanting to do a conversion though. Even if just for the wheels and mirrors. Even if this car were close by though, I have nowhere to store it. Six months ago I went from having 9 cars with room for 20 more to room for two.
  2. Is that a wasps nest in the left side opening? Yikes! Stick with the center and keep it symetrical. If I ever actually build a V8 Z, it's going to have sidepipes. Hahahaa!
  3. It seems to me that maybe the pinks one forum could be opened for read only purposes. That would clear up a lot of the confusion, but then again, maybe there are things that are better left out of the public eye?
  4. In 20 years I'll finally have my 63 Pontiac LeMans built and won't be allowed to drive it except for in the winter. I bet in twenty years certain cars will have to have green and red stickers like off-road vehicles.
  5. I like the taller one, but only if the rest of the bodywork can flow with it, it's maybe a tiny bit tall. Normally, I prefer smaller more integrated spoilers. But I do love the Can-Am look of the red Z above.
  6. Don't fill in the vents, go the extra mile and make the functional. I think they look the business and give it a different look than the other kits out there. If I had a place to put it, I'd buy it today.
  7. I think those rear fenders are my favorite out of everything I've seen. The tail is maybe a little much, but not too crazy. My recommendation is go with a LT1, they're easy to come by and the grin factor will still be there. But first, figure out what mounting setup you already have.
  8. I think they're hideous, but in that fun kind of way where you can't help but want one. It seems like it's out of Thundercats or Transformers or something. I don't really remember what cartoon I'm thinking of, but it's definately mid 80s and asian.
  9. Haha, yeah. I can see it now:"Hey man, nice ride, pull into that gas station so I can look under the hood and see if I want to race you. Sweet, sweet, yeah, those are dart heads, hmm, double throwdown Nitrous Express, hmmm. Yeah, I'm gonna have to get eight car lengths on you. What's the matter, aw c'mon, I have a wimpy "Datsun" there's no way I'd beat you even if you stalled..."
  10. See, it's late. Thanks, fixed. You know you're obsessed when you get up to get a glass of water and you check your HZ mail.
  11. Just for comparison. The new MX5 Miata is 170hp, 140#/ft, and just under 2500 pounds according to the Mazda website. A Honda S2000 has 237 bhp @ 7800rpm with 163/ft torque and weighs in at 2855.
  12. I've been noticing lately that the manufacturers, american in particular, are overly concerned with making cars that EVERYONE wants. I know that they're in business to sell cars, but you can't please everyone, it's the same thing with the music industry. They've all gone MTV. Chrysler has this Caliber AWD SRT-4 that's supposed to be coming out. Sure, it's cheap, and it's gonna be darn fast, but it's not a realistic car for someone who's buying their first car. You're just out of college, got your first taste of real money, and you want something that's fun. Fun is marketed to Joe American as power. For some reason, I can't picture your average 23 year old guy being able to control a 300hp FWD car. If Nissan were to bring back the Datsun name, it would have to do it with the intention of producing a product that's accessible, reliable, and fun. The specs that are laid out above would be great, as long as the car was no heavier than 2500 pounds, Ideally, it would weigh around 2200. An L6 would be great, it would give it just that extra bit of torque. A more masculine Miata with some balls and a nasty exhuast note. That's the real competition. Mazda has a car that rolls off the sales floor and onto the race track. I'd like to see Nissan do that with a similar car. I kinda forget where I was going with this, it's late and I'm tired. I don't want to see them reintroduce the 240Z like everyone else is doing with the muscle cars, there's gotta be something they could call it other than that. Maybe just call it a coupe? Viva La Zoom!
  13. When Nissan introduced the Titan they had a chassis with drive train on display at the San Francisco Intl Auto Show. Almost every single piece was chromed. All aluminum parts, including the tranny, were polished. Anything that wasn't chrome or polished was powdercoated black or red. Even the engine block was chromed. It was pretty friggin sweet.
  14. I found it kind of saddening that they don't have the good sense to tell someone to buckle their helmet up. Some of those cars get pretty squirrely of the line and even mid track. I occasionally have to remind my students to buckle their helmets, but that's out of excitement. These guys just shove the thing on their head and go. Of course, half the time the helmet is so old it wouldn't do anything anyway. I guess my point is, the show promotes street racing, which is questionable, yet it does nothing to promote doing so safely. Basically, no redeeming value.
  15. You should bust out the 440 grit sandpaper and get that thing up to a mirror finish. Do it. Do it. Do it.
  16. I'm home with some broken bones and have been watching SPEED channel pretty much all day (except the monster trucks). There is a PINKS re0run on right now that features a white Turbo RX7 vs a pink Civic Hatch. All things about the "race" aside I noticed something that made me, the one with the broken bones, a bit queasy. On every single pass there was a helmet that was not strapped. Always the guy in the RX7 was unstrapped, and at least once the Civic's driver was also. Is PINKS a "run what ya brung and we hope you brought a helmet" type of deal? It's VERY obvious that safety is not their number one concern, heck, fair racing isn't either but at least it takes a couple episodes to realize that. Am I crazy to think that they should require people to strap on their helmets? A fire-retardent jacket wouldn't be too out of line either, especially considering a lot of these guys have nitrous oxide bottles right in the cabin. Ok, rant off.
  17. Wow, that's touching. Really, who would think that someone would go to all the work of drumming up sponsors etc. or just plain ponying up the cash. That's awesome.
  18. Sweeeeet. That'll be perfect, especially with all those trees around. We don't have trees to run through in CA. My girlfriend is looking at getting a 150 next month, I've succeeded in giving her the bug. Next step is Datsuns, Haha!
  19. Nice place Mike, I'm digging all the trees. Is that a CRF150 or is it a 230? My roommate, Jimmy http://www.676racing.com races a CRF250R SM here in Nor Cal. He lets me roll it around the track once in a while, but threatens to kick me out of the house every time I stick a knee out.
  20. I haven't seen the episode, I've been out of town and didn't know the air date, also, the link to it is no good. But anyway, I'd like to mention a couple things. 1- If you have a problem with the way the race was run, the way the car was prepped/built/driven or you think you could have done it better, then maybe you should have. There is, and has been for a several months, a separate forum designated for the PINKS car build. I wasn't a member of this forum, but I did donate money towards the car. 2-PINKS the TV show is just that, a show. It's not about racing, it's a about a show. There have been several magazine interviews with the host, and he's first to admit that he does the show for money, the same reason that most people go on the show. They don't go on to race, they go on to win. I'd like to appluad the guys who put their invaluable time and money into building the Pinks Z. You guys did a great job, I'm proud to wear my HZPINKS T-shirt all the time. Good luck on the next one. Carl
  21. That's pretty cheap, unfortunately, the PS2 to make it work is a little more spendy. Actually, for some reason, i have four or five PS2 games but have never had the console. I imagine they'll be pretty cheap in foir-six months though with the PS3 comin' out.
  22. Nice. the old "where did this part come from" trick. That's a favorite of mine.
